I don't understand how Ruben can be exposed to Gojira for the first time, watch a few videos and have the self-discipline to not binge watch EVERY VIDEO and listen to every song in one sitting. I know I did exactly that when I finally discovered them.
I heard Born in the Winter and loved it, listened to it at least 10 times a day for a couple of weeks, but then I listen L'enfant Sauvage and other songs and didn't really dig them, I was put out because of their technical sound and I may love Pantera, Machine Head and Lamb of God but I'm not a big metal fan and stupid me thought they were just some Math Death Metal by the numbers band that just play a lot of 0's. After a couple of months I saw a lot of live performances and read some lyrics and I felt bad for myself for dismissing them and not actually listening to their songs when I first discovered them. Now ofc is my favorite band.
Yesssss! Finally! And also, thanks for shouting out my name twice. 😂 🙌 Please do esoteric surgery sometime. Beautiful lyrics and just absolute amazing sound.
What about Collective Soul, the most underrated but deserving rock band ever. Extremely talented musicians do deserve so much more recognition. Though not heavy metal or even very hard rock they must be the happiest and most entertaining band on the planet. Where the river flows is almost metal and every (rock) song has a famous riff which you would recognise but not know the band. However, check out their live performance of better now with the orchestra. ua-cam.com/video/tMBW7nB6hbc/v-deo.html Its the definition of what music should be, unbridled joy and talent, with an amazing solo and riff with a brilliant singer. Even if you dont react to it, watch it it and guarantee your mood would be lifted.
For something a bit different from Gojira, check out "Low Lands", "Born In Winter", "World To Come", "Satan Is A Lawyer", and there are some other ones out there. But i think you should definitely check these ones out! But as for heavy songs go, you NEED to listen to "Space Time" from The Link Alive DVD by Gojira.
Low Lands is sooooooo slept on bro, probably my favorite song from them period.you can feel that the song was written with so much emotion, not to mention it was for their mom after she passed
ThaTruth223 it really takes you on a journey! First it's calm and it stretches sooo long and makes you more excited for the heaviness and then comes sort of the explosion! And I would personally say it's their best "breakdown" ever and the highlight of the song! The changing between shouting and singing makes it so intense! And for Born in Winter I love the song structure! It has no real chorus! It just evolves until the climax and then comes back to the start. Just brilliant! And also pretty hard guitar riff!
When Gojira meets - should I say trolls?- Daft Punk or stays too long in the "Hangar 18". Very interesting pick. TY Ruben and guys. Great writing by the way IMO, love Jean-Michel Labadie bass at the very beginning.
+impulseLG. Yes man man ! i have been bashing Ruben's ears with it for some time so nice to see some one else on the same vibe !! the outro from it on the Link alive Bordeaux cru ( as they say in that part of the world) is like a fucking religious experience !! Has to be reviewed and the love spread around .Peace to you !!
Ruben, I checked your Gojira playlist and I understand where you come from when you say listening to Gojira can become a bit monotonic after a while. You do reactions videos based on recommendations and people tend to recommend the heaviest songs. And bands also like to play their heaviest songs on live shows because METAAAAAAL. There is a stylistic variety on the Gojira albums that is not well represented by the live videos found on YT. You should check for yourself (you don't need to do reaction videos) songs like Satan is a Lawyer, Inward Movement, World to Come, Esoteric Surgery, Born in Winter, Lowlands (I picked one song from each album, but there are more).
The fact that some people are mentioning Daft Punk because of the use of a vocoder is deeply depressing to me. The vocoder in this song is actually an homage to the progressive death metal band Cynic who released their master piece Focus in 1993 which is largely regarded as a landmark in the genre. Two of the band members guitarist Paul Masdical and drummer Sean Reinert played on Death's album Human in 1991. Seriously, how can you compare these legends of death metal to Daft Punk?
Hey Ruben ! Leffe is very nice indeed :-). Ok here's my suggestion as you are right you can only do so many reviews of this amazing band. "you blow me away you(universe): Terra Incognita album: live from the Bordeaux Footage of "the link alive" tour from 2003. link below . The actual track starts @ 40:28 and must be heard till the very end around 50:00. As a GOJIRA fan you will love this , i promise you and even if you don't review it ! listen to it as you will experience transcendental Metal . Peace bro. ua-cam.com/video/pttOl5nsvlA/v-deo.html
That's good news. I've been listening to all albums but don't remember this one in particular with the robot voice. And the "non robot" parts sound way too much like other/better songs from them.
3:10 that smile though!! Hahahahaaha fantastic
I strongly recomend you "Lizard Skin". Its beginning is mind blowing
OMG master i fucking love the intro to that song
Very good Gojira song, different but still very Gojira-esque in the lyrics and the bridge. Please react to Demon Of The Fall by Opeth :)
Live these are absolutely incredible! Third best concert i`ve been to besides Rush on the Time Machine Tour and Second Download 2009.
There is this one important thing about Gojira: you can listen to all of their albums and you will not find a bad track, they just don't make them :D
Devin Townsend Project - Deconstruction. This song is extremely different, chaotic, technical (Dirk Verbeuren on drums is absolutely BEAST)

All good things for those who wait....;)
That's what I keep saying too! The ad libitum outro in that rendition of the song is indeed a religious experience.

you can say you don't like it buddy. I don't, and so far i liked all of their songs I knew... Next Gojira album produced by Daft Punk confirmed!
Song is from 2008, I don't think we have to worry about this single one influencing their style 10 years later.
That's good news. I've been listening to all albums but don't remember this one in particular with the robot voice. And the "non robot" parts sound way too much like other/better songs from them.
manor fucking fail on both comments by you ....
