Back in the sixties I used to vacation at my friends home on Merritt Island. I visited the space center. One day I was walking on the beach along the Banana River and saw a really bright , very intense area in the sky. It looked like a small sun. I asked my friend what it was Even in bright sunlight the flame from a rocket is unbelievably intense and he said we were looking at an unmanned launch of a satellite. I'm 78 and have followed our space program practically from the beginning and seeing an American ship and American Astronauts back in space from U.S. soil Again, is wonderful. Cheers, Rik Spector
Q: Why do only some airfields have a tree swing? A: Some airfields don't have trees. Alternatively, there is a pin ball machine in the pilot rest room.😎
I remember watching your videos at the beginning of last year, started my PPL last Summer and am about to start my IFR next week after the covid break. Now I have sold one of my cars and am looking to buy my own airplane for some fun cross country trips!! You really have shown the world how amazing it really is up there. I am based in Kissimmee, FL right down the road from Apopka and can tell you I have landed there before and the winds coming off of that lake are wild! Thanks again, maybe you can do some transition training in the near future:)
Any time I'm pilot in command of an aircraft we will have a ripping headwind" truer words have never been spoken. Except "sun directly in my face." What a wonderful video Josh. Really enjoy your content. Your professionalism in the cockpit is unmatched on UA-cam aviation videos. Fantastic instruction as you fly along. So hope young pilots take notice of how you do it. It's all about safely getting there, not just getting there.
Josh, it was obvious to me the time and effort you put into this post. You present a tremendous amount of information that is helpful to this low-time private pilot. Thank you sooo much!!!
Love the aviation 101 channel. You do an outstanding job on the flying, videos, and misc, related to aviation. I am a 58 year old person who's malfortune in life prevented me from flying. Your VLOGS give me Excellent Entertainment and Joy. I am subscribed to your Channel. Thank You. GOD bless you and Your Family.
Josh, have been watching your videos for some time. You have always done a very nice job but your videos are now even more entertaining and informative. Great job on this as usual!
"Anytime I'm pilot in command I'll have a ripping headwind". LOL Seems like I always have a headwind in every direction. Got lucky last month and had a 50 knot tailwind for a while @ 16,500.
I was able to see two launches from 35,000 at the cape while working as an F/A for Eastern Airlines from 1976 to 1989, our captain timed it just right and we did a 360 on one launch just to burn up some time to coincide with 1 of the launches. When you see that shuttle at 35,000 feet it is going like a bat out of hell, you really get a sense of how fast that thing is moving, all but one of the passengers loved it, there's one in every crowd. 😎 Thanks for sharing the video.
Josh, thanks for the detailed description of your flying experiences. You always do an excellent job. I'm glad you got to see the launch. I've had the joy of watching two launches when we visited Melbourne, FL on vacation from Ontario, Canada.
I noticed that George just sat there in the right seat and didn't life a finger to aid in Nav, Comm, or control. MAN! That little dude just takes up space! Great video Josh, as always.
While approaching Apopka, you flew directly over my house midway between Ocala airport and Leesburg airport. Leesburg is where I do my flight training in a Cessna 172 sp. My wife and I also watched the launch. Yes, a new era !
Was watching the launch live. Got goosebumps then and just now watching again. Go Dragon Endeavour! I hope to finish my private and fly from Houston down to the Space Coast to watch many more launches. Thanks for sharing. 🛫🛬🚀
Josh, A rocket launch is definitely a bucket list item for me, I never seen one either. The closest thing for me was seeing a space shuttle land at Lackland AFB in San Antonio being ferried back to Cape Canaveral atop a 747, that was definitely an impressive sight to say the least. Great video thanks fro sharing!
Awesome to hear direct college station. Just passed my ppl check ride after finishing up my hours at Easterwood field and it is literally a dream come true. Thanks for keeping the dream alive back before i had started training and thanks for making this great content. PS im jealous of those flaps. The S models i fly only get 30 degrees
Thank you for uploading. I got the opportunity to witness a rocket launch in 2018. Amazing experience. I shared a pretty fun video of the trip to my page.
Watching those launch clips again gave me goosebumps. Fantastic video as always. It was interesting to hear your own criticism of the gusty crosswind landing while you were taxying - both points you mentioned are things that I picked up on so it's good to know my training is still super fresh (even though I qualified nearly two years ago) and that despite all your experience so far, you will still pick holes in your own performance. Keep up the great videos - each one contains a golden nugget (I got most of my ATC notes shorthand from one of your videos). Looking forward to seeing more from your 3 week stay in the East!
Hello Josh, as usual i admire your professional attitude behind and alway looking foward to meet you in the future. I have learn a lot from you as i am still persuing my training at executive. Great video , very educational
A cool topic for the future, and would be enlightening is if you could get an air traffic controller to go on a ride along with you and discuss what pilots can do that is helpful to ATC and what ATC can do that is helpful to pilots. Enjoy your videos, I always try and watch one as my dogs are settling down for the night. They are just the right length.
This video has it all, even a cliff hanger! "Carb ice!" Thanks for the inspiration. You have inspired me to go back to get my PPL...I just need to have the "discussions" with my wife. She feels flying is unsafe becasue of what happened with Kobe.
Great video! Love the long haul cross country flights with all the details etc..... For a second I thought you had an auto pilot with your feet off the rudders. You sure trim it out nicely.
My favourite contact was some RAF typhoons. I thought “should I alter course to avoid?” Then before I did anything they shot up to much higher than my airplane service ceiling.
Awesome flight. You go on very nice trips. I haven't seen a launch of any kind but I did see (and photograph) Columbia arriving at Barksdale AFB on the back of a 747. I took my kids out of school so they could see it :)
Before I got rid of the book of face I saw your plan to head up KSSI. I hope that was able to work out for family around there and it’s a bucket list flight to me
Perry-Foley is a WWII base. My dad was stationed the during the war. He met my mom at a USO dance. I went there for my CC solo flight. Ward the Airport Manager is a great guy.
Back during the war there were 3 missions for the Florida airbases. Look for submarines, train pilots, and Florida was considered the prime location for an invasion from Germany. The bases were established as a deterrent. At that time Florida was a pretty much a wilderness. My dad did his basic training in Miami Beach and stayed at a hotel there. Look it up, it's all true.
It's a really weird phenomenon. I've seen plenty of pilots and even notice myself doing it when soloing. I guess maybe it's easier mentally to just always say we instead of thinking about the pronoun to use.
Next time in Central West Florida (Tampa), I would be honored to meet you. I am retired (ATC, Commercial/Instrument PiLot SMEL, Gliders + Flight Instructor).
Love your videos. One thing I'm noticing that's different from my training here in South Aust, is the use of checklists. For some reason my school just wants to use memory checks. What do you think the pro's and con's are of using checklists or not? Personally, I think I'd like to use them more.
You can memorize checklists and is ok, but you will have to see your checklist to confirm that you didn’t missed an item.Emergency checklists should be memorized.
Your observation is correct on both counts. I wish more people would have honored Jim Bridenstine's request to enjoy the history remotely - the webcast was excellent
Might want some carb heat going through those clouds? I don't even know if you have a carb! I stopped pulling carb heat on downwind when the engine quit once. Now I only pull it if I'm in moisture and the carb throat is near freezing. Love my carb temp gauge.
Hi Josh, how did you know that Apopka is served by an Automated Unicom system (receivable by 3 clicks)? I could not see any indication of its availability to pilots on the sectional chart or the AFD?
18:35 There’s no way you got the weather to play on the first try. I’m only saying this because for whatever reason when I try, I’m awful at it. It’s more comical than anything really... Also, welcome to Florida. Apopka has a very nice AirBnB you could have stayed at.
Hey Josh, I don't see the Aviation101 polo in the store. Are those for sale? In addition, I LOVE my flying eyes sunglasses. I had to have the lens replaced with Rx, but the frame are awesome. WLBS Ken
“ lemme turn on the air conditioning
*opens window* 😂

Also known as the Atmosphere Induction System.
Another great video. That was hilarious getting the Baton Rouge ATIS for your freq change.

8:34: "...and the airplane's all trimmed out, see that?"
Next second: turns the trim wheel :-)
Q: Why do only some airfields have a tree swing?
A: Some airfields don't have trees.
Alternatively, there is a pin ball machine in the pilot rest room.😎
My flight school has many trees, but it doesn't have a swing or a pin ball machine...
We have massage chairs...come visit n have some bbq...
Mind has nothing. It doesn’t even hav planes or runways,
Probably because I’m not in flight school.

Welcome to my hometown...glad you had a chance to witness history along side us!
Can’t wait until I get my ppl
Worth it dude!
@oXcar_X Yes
Got mine 2 days ago! Totally worth it!
Did you get it?
So cool! You continue to amaze me with your filmmaking skills.

I saw the shuttle back in 1997 and it was such a loud punch of sound! This is a fantastic video!
Yep. Cycling is the same. Always a headwind. ;-)
I love the enthusiasm for aviation in this video
10:26 that “Cleared through the Bravo” is more important now than ever 😂
SO true... 😂
Can’t wait to see you at the aviation content creators awards!
when and where is it?

Great video Josh, as always.
ForeFlight is a must have for flying.
You should leave Foreflight up more often. as a new pilot, it is helpful to see that while you are flying. Love your stuff!
ahhhhh it is good to be Josh, i watched the last minute and hit pause, holy cow,
Ditto... ;-)
😉😏
Mountain flying, and pause😯
Thanks amigo. I was there in Titusville with you. What an exciting time!
I have never experienced so many goosebump moments as i did in this video, between the views and spacex comms! Great video!
While approaching Apopka, you flew directly over my house midway between Ocala airport and Leesburg airport.
Leesburg is where I do my flight training in a Cessna 172 sp. My wife and I also watched the launch. Yes, a new era !
Setting the standard again! Great video. Keep them coming and promoting GA!
Cool.. just cool... fly safe and fly often!
Was watching the launch live. Got goosebumps then and just now watching again. Go Dragon Endeavour! I hope to finish my private and fly from Houston down to the Space Coast to watch many more launches. Thanks for sharing. 🛫🛬🚀
Loved the video. Wish I could have seen that flight in person
. Did watch it live in TV.
Another awesome video from you Josh.Stay safe

Epic! Thanks Josh.
Thanks Josh
Every time after I watch one of your videos I have to fire up X Plane and fly your plane. Such a pretty paint job. Beautiful video!

Congratulations on getting your PPL. Learn from every source you can. Keep your eyes open and head turning. You'll do fine.
Can’t wait to see that mountain flying!
Love those nice steep final approaches. It kills me when I see people coming in low.
Thank you for uploading. I got the opportunity to witness a rocket launch in 2018. Amazing experience. I shared a pretty fun video of the trip to my page.
Thanks for creating these vids i took my first GA flight today in Whanganui, New Zealand you inspired me to do that so thanks.
You're best video yet, really enjoyed it. Thanks!
Watching those launch clips again gave me goosebumps. Fantastic video as always.

Man those clouds early in the morning were killer 😍
I got your lunch, If you ever stop at New Orleans Lakefront (KNEW). I love seeing you pass through my neighborhood.
Cool that you saw the Space X!
good flying, great commenting to the camera...amazing editing you keep getting better at it
Really nice video - great stuff!!
Gorgeous views! Nice long flight. Awesome launch! You know you tried that swing. Be honest. LOL!!!
This video has it all, even a cliff hanger! "Carb ice!" Thanks for the inspiration. You have inspired me to go back to get my PPL...I just need to have the "discussions" with my wife. She feels flying is unsafe becasue of what happened with Kobe.
It’s pretty cool you got to fly to see the launch
Love the copilot!
Great video! Love the long haul cross country flights with all the details etc..... For a second I thought you had an auto pilot with your feet off the rudders. You sure trim it out nicely.

Fun trip. Great editing job!
your a legend
Great video, I think I saw haulover inlet you flew over. There are a lot of videos of haulover inlet.
Love the co pilot
Great video as usual, but especially with the Space X launch!!!
Sir!
Your co-pilot cracked me up!
great Video again👍👨✈️
Was cool flying from hooks to Lago Vista yesterday afternoon heard you on Austin approach, was busy but was going to say hi... Trinidad 2812Y
Hahaha! Baton Rouge is my hometown airport. Classic move to hand you over to the ATIS. Safe flying!
I’ve been waiting for new content. Keep it coming! This is awesome
Before I got rid of the book of face I saw your plan to head up KSSI. I hope that was able to work out for family around there and it’s a bucket list flight to me
I wish I could fly with you I'm a big fan of the Chanel ever since 2019.

Cool video , thank you.
great video thanks for sharing
I love the edit and the energy on this video keep up the great work.
Josh ~ where did you get your co-pilot? I need one of those guys....
His name is Otto, he is from the movie Airplane!
How do you inflate the auto-pilot?
I'm not sure where he got his but I got mine at www.airportag.com under the throw pillow tab.
@@LuvSubbin Perfect - thanks for the vector!
love the ForeFlight integration. Something no other youtuber does ATM.
Thanks for the great video and info👨✈️🙏
That rope ain't got no Tegridy.
Great vid, thanks!
I love the way you refer to yourself in the plural (we and us). Of course you have your emergency autopilot!
It's a really weird phenomenon. I've seen plenty of pilots and even notice myself doing it when soloing. I guess maybe it's easier mentally to just always say we instead of thinking about the pronoun to use.
Have you and your dad ever considered redoing the interior to match the exterior?
Next time in Central West Florida (Tampa), I would be honored to meet you. I am retired (ATC, Commercial/Instrument PiLot SMEL, Gliders + Flight Instructor).

I still remember watching Apollo 13 takeoff from the air in a Cherokee just like it was yesterday. That memory will stay with you forever.
Apollo 13... You witnessed the launch of a mission that at the time you never knew would turn into one of the greatest stories in spaceflight history
BTW I am a distant cousin to Patty Wagstaff, just saying . and a big fan of hers. I just saw your video of your 2014 flight with her. Lucky.
I like your videos alot👍
One of your best videos. BTW, didn't see many face coverings during the launch; appears they are starting to pay the price.
Your observation is correct on both counts. I wish more people would have honored Jim Bridenstine's request to enjoy the history remotely - the webcast was excellent
Love your videos! Thanks for all the info you share. Love you're flying buddy! He kinda resembles the blow up co-pilot doll on the Airplane movie. 😄😄
I loved this video
22:05 The feeling when you watch history is creating in front of you.
Great Vid!
I had to do all my landings (normal/short/soft field) at Apopka just a few months ago for my Private Pilot check ride, I know all about those winds
Might want some carb heat going through those clouds? I don't even know if you have a carb! I stopped pulling carb heat on downwind when the engine quit once. Now I only pull it if I'm in moisture and the carb throat is near freezing. Love my carb temp gauge.

Nice
Love the split-screen moving sectional display, maybe incorporate more often if viewers show interest...
