That is so great! This is what I really want to be doing. I like the checkering too but can't find a supplier that has dembart tools in stock. I was thinking if I start checkering I could make money to get the turbo carver. I'm in disability. Paralyzed 11 years ago neck down but after many years of therapy can get around ok. This could help me to provide for my family. We could use groceries now, so sooner I get busy the better. Thanks for sharing video!
@@lenhowl Thank you, sir. I am embarrassed to see my comment was 4 years ago. I’ve had many surgeries since then. I have not reached the goal of carving gun stocks, unfortunately. I’m not giving up. 😊👍
I can't see hacking up a good stock like that. That said I like the buttstock INLAYS like Weatherbys gazelle's, Cape Buffalo, elephant, Kodiak bear moose, elk,, Ram, etc.
I love your videos but it sure would be more educational if you would do some narrative to let us know things like equipment used, bits used and when to use them etc. thanks, Danny
SOUTHERNFURY1957 thanks for watching my video. This video is just for entertainment. If you wish to have the details of my process you can purchase a video on my website with this information. Carvings should be on the fore end and pistol grip and under the cheekpiece. Oak leaves and acorns, Maple leaf and vine. Not fish scale or Basket weave.
George Postins prior to painting I use a wood conditioner. The wood conditioner seals the grain to prevent the wood from absorbing the paint. Then I apply very thin layers of oil paint. Once completed I let it dry a minimum of 3 days then lightly seal with a danish oil.
Larry MacCaskill I agree! I don't mind a little staining to bring out features but paint covers your work! Why bother carving, just paint the picture on there!
Dale, thanks for watching my video. I really do not time myself because I really just enjoy carving. But on the average I would say somewhere around 4-6 hours.
Great job, Roger! I love your Jimi shirt, too!

What bit did you use to outline the bird in the beginning? I’m not sure which bit would be the right thickness for that kind of stuff.

What kind of gun was that carving done on?
I believe it was an older Remington 12 gauge.
What kind of colours you are using? Oil colours? Great work btw!
yes oils. I prefer Windsor Newton. Thanks!
K
What is that paper called ?
I transferred the pattern using a normal sheet of printer paper sprayed with repositionable easy tack on the back.
I tried this and decided to try the oil paint on a sample of piece and three days have gone by and it’s not dry yet, what’s your trick

Add Liquin to oil paint , a few drops only . It will dry in 2 days .
Do u do work for money sir
Wow
The video shows you do nice work, but as for as learning anything it would be hard to give it more than a 2.

Thumbs video
Just my own personal taste but I think paint on a gunstock looks cheap and cheezy.
