I think going through the experience of losing his own kid (and blaming himself for it) gave Jack a real soft spot for kids. So, when he sees what he perceives to be child abuse, it makes sense it's going to push his buttons in a way that other things wouldn't.
I know this is quite late, but just to clarify, not all Orbanian children are like Marin or Tomin, those are special children selected at birth to have enough nanites to basically completely replace their brains (without actually replacing their brains). When those nanites are removed and given out to the rest of the populace (including ordinary children), their brains revert to an infantile state, and all of their knowledge goes to the people who receive their nanites
It wasn't everyone apparently, I too understood it to be that way. But apparently there's a chosen amount of kids who get this kind of treatment. These chosen are called Urrone. It's a brief mention somewhere in the episode that I suppose is easy to miss.
Episodes like these are important in learning the Stargate universe. This episode is about teaching which is how the the series progresses for the rest of its runtime. Stargate command is taught how to build power generators fueled by very small amount made up of the fictional element that makes up the Stargate. It will be used the series from this point forward.
Last Episode: Funny thing about cameras... They work when the gate is closed... So the picture could have been taken before the first team left, while the gate was closed or... whenever. The "kitty intermission", make that Intermissions, plural, made me grin. This is... one of the more disturbing concepts Stargate explores. They do it well. Jack reacts... the way we expected a father to react. The ramifications are... far reaching. And the line... "Dags are my favourite people." I agree. I like cats too, but dog will always have a special place.
