  • The last pre Dreadnaught battleship in the world, the Mikasa. this video highlights it's important history, capabilities as a surface combat ship and has a walk through walk around.
t would have been. additionally the Japanese supply lines were exponentially less arduous than Russia. who depended on a sole rail line a 7-14 day journey given congestion. the Japanese were rabidly nationalistic and not in a bad way like WW2. a great number if conscripted Russians didn't care to die for officers who might as well have been foriegn given the divide in wealth education and status. Japan was also a classes society but with optimism at most levels of society. the education and literacy of the common recruit was higher than his Russian counterpart. the rapid advances in technology naval and other called for education and literacy.
that said one has to love the Russian soul. ennured to hardship and expecting no great reward the soldiers and sailors fought with deadly determination. The Russians exacting a terrible toll on the Japanese at Port Arthur. Tsushima was a disaster in planning from the start on the Russian side. It is the single best example of a rule of battle and movement any fool of an officer should know that you need to reach the battle with the ability to fight. the Russians had a few great commanders but they were the exception and too often got killed by pure bad luck while lesser men lived to avoid a fight or retreat.
the tragedy of Tsushima is that the whole point of the epic journey to the east by the Baltic Fleet was intended to allow linking up with the Pacific fleet. the Pacific Fleet was destroyed 5 months prior to the Baltic Fleets Arrival. The fleet could not have refitted and repaired at Vlodivostok as it lacked drydocks large enough. The Russians despite continued defeat still regarded the Japanese as inferior the racist views are shocking to modern readers.
this is a ramble. it's late. I would like to point out how the war changed Japanese Military and political thinking for the worse. Japan fought by European rules. they were eager to prove thier modernity and place as major power. they followed ' rules of war' and so well 9were Russian POWs treated in Japan some refused to leave at wars end. however the Treaty of Portsmouth was not particularly fair at least in the minds of many Japanese. the truth is Japan would have been hard pressed to finance the war much longer and as they pushed the Russians back in land the supply of the largest armies ever fielded in battle and enourmous consumption af shells and other supplies not to mention the horrific casualties in a nation a 10th the size of the opponent meant they needed the war to end too.
anyway the ship is a great bit if history and I recommend checking it out. if you serve at the base in Yokashima get a km down the road and check it out

      Wow
Thanks. I would be OK with subscribers and money but don't imagine I am appealing to a very large audience. ( World of Warships if you see this I am cheap and can bring you double digit views! )
UA-cam used to be a lot more fun I agree. Again thank you I will check out your channel.
