I love all the inlay projects. They really catch my attention because it is something that I really want to try. I just don't want to start anything without being well informed. So thank you for being a great teacher
First off that is a beautiful piece of walnut! It looks balanced in all four corners. I really like the aluminum bits and how they mirrored. I am not a big purple guy but it worked. Your wife is a genius.
I don't know why your channel appeared in my feed but probably because I follow a few Canadian luthiers and guitarists. Anyway I'm here and have been watching quite a few of your videos lately. The most amazing aspect for me, is your personal developement regarding epoxy over a few years. You're always prepared to experiment with new techniques and materials, a true pioneer regardless of risks. In answer to the 'purists' who detest epoxy. You retrieve natural wood resources that would have previously been discarded or burned (not this video) by combining natural and synthetic materials to make really beautiful unique pieces. Finally, you always take the time to explain what you're doing, why and how to avoid making mistakes. You're the kind of teacher that every kid would love to have, or had have had, in the woodworking classes at school. Thank you.
Beautiful bowl, Jim. 😊😊😊 great choice with the purple resin. And aluminum shines up so nice. There are so many colors in the walnut and the purple is a good one to mimic. 👍👍👍 I love walnut, too. InlayJim for the drawing.
Yet another really lovely bowl Jim.. fabulous combination of Walnut, “aluminium” and purple resin.. colour was spot on; you should always listen to the missus 😁
Wow, Jim! What can I say? That's one beautiful bowl! Glad you didn't go with the black! The silver of the aluminum, the purple, and that gorgeous walnut are the perfect combo!!
I discovered your channel a few days ago and have started watching all your videos from oldest to new. I enjoy how you explain what you are doing and why. Had seen resin videos on other channels but the natural inlays with glue was new to me. Verry cool.
Awesome Jim! Thanks for putting the stills up at the end. Really got a good look at it and I liked it even more! Agree with you on the walnut. You’ve got some really good pieces in your stash that makes the rest of us so envious! 😄
The walnut looks amazing with the purple resin. Great idea to use the aluminium nuggets. Cam from Blacktail studio users his camera light to help pick out any imperfections when finishing his tables. Awesome looking bowl again Jim.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Love the walnut! I attempted a small walnut bowl with a thin epoxy inlay on the rim and I must say I really appreciate the tips and explanations you always have!
This an absolutely gorgeous bowl! 🤩😍💕💫The purple aluminum combo is perfect! Awesome call Mrs. Sprague on the colour combo! Excellent workmanship Mr. Sprague! 👏👏👏
It's pretty surprising, but aluminum is extremely malleable. There are many woods with more strength and resistance to alteration than aluminum has. Btw, the purple resin looked the same as it always does when it's getting sanded. It's a whitish, vaguely lavender color. Once you put any finish or something wet on it, though, it comes back to life. I don't think you noticed before because it was always next to wood, which looks a lot different. Now it's actually next to something it can blend into with its sanded appearance. I love the inlay on this bowl. It looks so beautiful! And your wife was totally right about the purple. It compliments the aluminum very well! Black can work also, but I feel it works better with a copper or something gold-colored. With silver, it's a little monochromatic. I wish I could do inlays like this! I've got a long way to go before I can do anything like it, both with skills and supplies/tools.
Your wife was right about the purple. If you had used black it would have been too monochromatic. Very nice bowl!
She knows best, lol. Thanks
I agree with you, black walnut is hard to beat! The aluminum with purple is amazing! Makes for a stunning work of art! Gold medal, Jim!!!
Thank you so much, I appreciate that!
Your wife was right about the color. Perfect for Walnut.
She sure was! Thanks 🙏🏻
I think this is what I expected the aluminum powder to look like - really like the shine👏👏👏👏👏👏
Me too, lol. Thanks
😁Your wife was dead on with the purple! Looks fantastic... as always. Thanks for the videos!
She usually is, lol. Thanks
Black walnut with bling, amazing combination. Creativity has gone off the charts.

Everybody and their brother is gonna want this bowl because it is brilliant! Your wife was right…purple rocks.
She knows her stuff, lol. Thanks
Yes the Walnut is king! I was looking forward to the black inlay but admit the purple and silver is fantastic! Smart thing listening to Mrs. Sprauge!
I guess so, haha. Thanks 🙏
Your wife has an eye for colour, well done Mrs S!! I'd love to see this inlay in bright blue
She sure does, thanks 🙏
I love that you explore different mediums to work with in your inlays! Another beautiful bowl!
Thank you very much!
I love all the inlay projects. They really catch my attention because it is something that I really want to try. I just don't want to start anything without being well informed. So thank you for being a great teacher
You can do it! Thanks

Magnificent figure in that walnut! Jim, you did a great job of bringing out the best in that bowl!
Thank you very much!
Oh PLEASE do more of these inlays!!! I wonder what that aluminum would look like in clear resin??? Love love love love this!!!
I think it definitely needs a color, thanks.
Clear might look good with a different wood, like maybe tiger maple, but not with that walnut.
Beautiful combo with the aluminum and purple. Always amazed at how you come up with new materials for your inlays. Love it.
Thank you so much! Jim
