- Reliving Doom 2 / II and Lemmings, SimCity and Transport Tycoon!
I have long dreamt of rewinding the clock to the 1990s so that I can re-play such retro games, and also just to spend time mucking around in Dos 6.22 and Windows 3.11 - the operating systems I remember enjoying most during my teenage years.
In this video I show you how my attempt at a 'cheap' retro gaming PC went wrong and ended up costing my about three times what I originally planned - but overall I am delighted with the machine and just a few days into it I am delighted with the result.
This PC build includes:
Gigabyte 586-ATX4 motherboard
Pentium 233mhz MMX CPU
128mb PC100 SDRAM
4GB Transcend Compact Flash solid state hard drive
Fractal Design Focus G case
EVGA 650BQ (80+ bronze) modular PSU
S3 ViRGE DX graphics card
Soundblaster AWE64 Gold sound card
Hopefully you'll enjoy the journey, please do subscribe as I'll be upgrading this machine over time to include a Voodoo2 3D accelerator, Windows 95 and 98, and more besides!
Please comment below if you have any suggestions for good upgrades from that period, and recommendations for some great games please.
Lastly a massive shout out to Phil's Computer Lab - he has a great UA-cam channel and a superb website full of helpful content.
Thanks.
