Can I please thank you for a no messing, simple to follow tutorial. It has left me with a question. If I was set the disk mix percentage as 70/30 what would the private percentage be? Thanks again for you great channel.
The 1st number is for internal or system storage (is that what you mean by "private"?) The 2nd number is for external storage for things like movies and TV shows or other things that can be read by another device like a computer.

With the stick power supply, hub and Ethernet had not enough power for everything to work right. Used a supply with 3 amp (3000ma) rating and everything worked just fine for me. The hub with keyboard receiver and 128K drive and net cable needs more power than the 1a supply amazon gives you.
How can I install apps back to internal storage that don't seem to work as good on external storage? I don't want to have to do a factory reset if it's possible.
Yes, but most of the time, they come formatted to FAT32 right from Amazon. If not, you can use your computer with the built-in format command (up to 32GB). If larger than 32GB, you'll need another (free Program) to do it. Splitting the storage allows you to bring the thumb drive to your computer and copy files to the "external" portion and then view them of the Firestick.
Formatted 64gig Kingston usb drive to fat 32 using laptop. When I connect to otg cable my screen goes black, if I remove usb drive the stick reboots and turns on again. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong. I have tried plugging the stick directly into wall as opposed to extension cable, still no joy
This might be a little long to discuss in UA-cam Comments.. Can you email me all the details (with screenshots and pics of your hardware connections) to info@cordcuttersli.com? I'll do my best to help.
Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I have the same Firestick you have and followed step by step, and it's not working for me. Nothing is going to my USB drive. I thought I purchased the correct external drive, but maybe not. I'm frustrated now.
I purchased the Kingston USB from your other video! Can I us the Kingston or must I purchase the Sandisk? One is New Generation and the other is Old Generation, does it matter on the Sandisk? Can I do hardwire? Thank you so much!
Ok I think i got this video confused..I thought it meant I could use half the storage to give more internal storage on the actual firestick ....but it seems your splitting it in the drive . Which firestick now gives that option anyway when formatting the sdcard at the start
Hi this is good video Please how can I get usb sign on my apps transfer from my internal storage I am using new firestick 4K max with 16GB ie the second generation OS8
Yes, but to do that, you'll need the UGreen hub so you can hardwire the network cable and still have room for the USB Drive. Look in the description of this video for the Amazon link for it. It's cheap and works great. Plus you'll get faster speed than the Amazon network adapter.

is there a way to move from USB storage to internal FS storage? I loaded Xtremity Red and its buffering (prob due to old USB drive I used). If I can't move it how do I ensure new apps do NOT go to USB storage? do I just unplug the USB then install apk?
Yes, exactly what you said. If you want apps to get installed on the internal system storage, shut down and remove the USB drive, then start it back up and install whatever app you want there.
@@CordCuttersLI thank you for the prompt reply. can I ask what u mean by "shut down" the USB drive? I didnt see a way to properly eject it. as u know on OS6 the drive does not even show up. Very helpful video. Thank you. I do have a question though: after doing a mixed 50 command using ADB Shell as per your instructions it still didn’t show any additional storage for Firestick apps. @CordCuttersLI Hey there. I'm hoping you might be able to give me a pointer as to why my SanDisk 32GB Ultra Flair is not being seen by my Fire TV stick 4K. I have checked everything to include having a version 6 OS, I correctly formatted the USB as fat 32 with default allocation, I correctly attach the USB to my Fire TV stick 4K, I verified the information entered into the ADB shell, and my USB drive is still not seen or recognized. I have watched your video four times, and took note that every storage is supposed to work. I have used three other OTG cables / adapters. When I enter the IP address into the ADB shell, then follow with the "sm list-disks" command, it only returns the same response "mantis: /$". There is no info related to an external disk. The "df -h" only returns information on the internal storage. There is nothing to indicate an external USB is attached anywhere. This USB drive can be read by my laptop and PC, but not by the fire stick. Please, can you tell me why it does not?
That depends on the app. Some apps. like TiviMate for example, will let you save recordings to the External USB storage. Other apps that don't have a way to change will automatically record to wherever the app is installed.
The X-Plore app will show you some info, and ADB Debugger will show more. Either way, I'd strongly recommend getting the new 4K max. The Price is cheaper than ever! Check the description of this video. I added some Amazon links to the new stuff in there. (Amazon does throw me a few cents when you do, much appreciated) But seriously, the 4k max is a BEAST compared to the one 4k model.
After entering my IP address all I get is Connection Failed. What is the fix for this? I don't see that you have answered anyone that said the same thing.
@@bjkemp This is an old video that was posted before Amazon released an update that disallows ADB debugging. If you disabled updates that prevented it from happening, this still works. Otherwise, these commands won't work.
After I run the sm list-disks command I get the line mantis:/ $ sm list-disks but it does not show the next line disk:8,0 then I get the next line of mantis:/ $ I dont see the disk when looking for it on the firestick.
I've been running this setup for a while now and now I want to transfer my apps to a bigger pen drive. For some reason the pen drive doesn't show up on any file explorer that I use and also doesn't show on my laptop. I'm still able to add apps to it on my FireStick but I can't open the pen drive anywhere. Any thoughts?
If I'm hearing you right, you may have to use a USB hub to connect your existing pen drive AND a larger one and use this video to copy to the larger one. ua-cam.com/video/ZEQO7IOuStg/v-deo.html Good luck!
A big newbie here so this may be a stupid question, what is the difference between external and internal storage. If I only plan on installing extra apps for the family and not doing anything fancy, which storage do I need to increase?
I tried this on Firestick 4K and it didn't work. I used 123gb samsung Fit Plu formatted FAT32 and wouldn't connect. I tried Sandisk 32gb and completed everything but it just shows fuse for Firestick internal storage but not for the usb flash drive. When I first install usb drive a cable symbol briefly appears. I have did Firestick Factory reset no different. I have been trying for 2 days now, is there anything I'm missing or can do? I had no problem adding usb drive to Firestick gen. 3. Please help me.
I know this is an old video but I have a couple of questions if anyone is still out there. What are the benefits of designating storage as either internal or external? Do u transfer the usb to different firesticks as needed? I think I would just leave it all as internal and have a usb for each firestick. 2nd question: is there a way to designate where you would like apps to go (internal/external)? Presuming it is a newer app that allows this (and presuming there is a reason to have it on external...based on answer to my 1st question). Thanks for any help
I'm sorry to tell you this, but Amazon got rid of the option for adb debugging with a recent update. If you're getting an error message, your Firestick probably got that update. They are trying to stop people from doing things like this. You can still add storage, but you're stuck with the options on the screen that you see when you plug in the USB drive.
@@CordCuttersLI Same issue. But i dont see any options for external storage when usb inserted. It know the drive is being read as I have a directory ap which sees it. So basically, how do I get additional memory for additional aps while keeping my firestivk with OS6.7?

Hi, I'm sure you were able to to handle that problem, but.. I had same on my FireStick 4K with stupid Kingston drive. I read about that might be the problem and replaced Kingston with SanDisk and all came on its place. So - no Kingstone, no problem.
@@mike.6285 I've tried with another SDcard and all fine also. So Kingston Kyson was the problem for me with that Java Error. Had previous problems with Kingston flash products so will stop use them entirely.
Why is that on the 4K stick, external doesn't show under "Storage" in My Fire TV? You still see Internal, but External never shows up. Yet on the regular sticks you see internal and external.
I added a 64GB Sandisk stick per this video- (all 64gb to internal memory),all seemed to work as planned, but when I look at the internal memory, it still reads 5GB or whatever the original was. what did I do wrong? I only want to record from Tivimate, so I thought all 64GB would be good internally. Help!?!
I'm not sure where you are looking from what you said, but you cannot see the available storage on the USB drive in X-Plore. You need to look at it in ADB Shell. Take a look in ADB Shell with the commands I showed you before and after you save some stuff in TiviMate. Also, make sure you select the right location in TiviMate. I wish I could post more on how to do things in TiviMate, but UA-cam gave me a strike for my last one. :(
When you check through the Firestick it will always show the internal storage of the Firestick, no matter how big your USB drive is (unless it's a new 4k max in which case you wouldn't need to go through this process to begin with)...you can either look at it through ADB but the simpler way is to look at it through whatever file manager you have...it should show you your USB stick as a series of letters and numbers...i also have tivimate and you have to go through the tivimate settings>other>recordings and select where you want your recordings to go...you should be able to select your USB drive from there.
I have done this method specifically to utilise tivimate so I can record sports TV shows films ect from my IPTV sub when needed , I bought 128gb scandisk I did the mix method 80/internal 20/external thinking would be easier and not after change tivimate path in settings as it currently saves to internal anyway I am I correct in thinking this anyone ? But I have samething when I check in managed applications under storage internal storage still shows basic fire stick storage ? Any help greatly appreciated.
I ve added storage to my firestick but why can t I see my external storage listed once I go on My Fire TV-about-Storage. I only see my internal storage. I ve done everything correctly but I am unable to see it. I have downloaded xplore and it is on my external drive. HELP!!

If you are super tech-savvy and have a computer with some partition cloning software, it might be worth a try just for fun, but it's probably better to just bite the bullet and start over. It's good practice! 😂
By the way, thanks for watching and for the kind words!

Yes, connect everything first.
@@CordCuttersLI Ok, I do not have to format USB disk?
@ricktorres1319 just follow the instructions in the video, step by step. BTW, this video is for the Firestick 4k (not the newer 4k Max. )
Just making sure. I have another video for newer FireTV devices.
you are very easy to understand, but when i go to about my fire tv, all i have is Fire TV stick 4k, storage, network, then check for updates. ive updated but do not see the ADB debugging or ADB at all
You are the best thanks!👍
Can I please thank you for a no messing, simple to follow tutorial. It has left me with a question. If I was set the disk mix percentage as 70/30 what would the private percentage be? Thanks again for you great channel.
The 1st number is for internal or system storage (is that what you mean by "private"?)
The 2nd number is for external storage for things like movies and TV shows or other things that can be read by another device like a computer.
hi,
thank you for the tutorial. I have a question
I move kodi19.2 from the fire stick to the external storage using the command PM move.package
how I move back from the USB storage back to the fire stick . what command I should be use
do I have to move to the change the directory where the USB is? and how do you change?
Thanks in advance
will the internal storage only work on thumb drives, and or hard drives? and does the format has to be fat 32?
With the stick power supply, hub and Ethernet had not enough power for everything to work right. Used a supply with 3 amp (3000ma) rating and everything worked just fine for me. The hub with keyboard receiver and 128K drive and net cable needs more power than the 1a supply amazon gives you.
does this work in amazon 4kmax firestick.
How can I install apps back to internal storage that don't seem to work as good on external storage? I don't want to have to do a factory reset if it's possible.
Should the storage be formatted to fat32 first? Why would you need to split the storage instead of just putting it all as internal storage?

Followed to the letter and had same reult from ADB but failed to recognise USB stick, any ideas please?
This might be a little long to discuss in UA-cam Comments.. Can you email me all the details (with screenshots and pics of your hardware connections) to info@cordcuttersli.com? I'll do my best to help.
Don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I have the same Firestick you have and followed step by step, and it's not working for me. Nothing is going to my USB drive. I thought I purchased the correct external drive, but maybe not. I'm frustrated now.
How can I move apps previously installed/downloaded onto USB?
I purchased the Kingston USB from your other video! Can I us the Kingston or must I purchase the Sandisk? One is New Generation and the other is Old Generation, does it matter on the Sandisk? Can I do hardwire? Thank you so much!
They should both work fine. 👍
When I get to the second adb command I get a usb drive removed msg even though my usb drive is still attached. Is there a solution to this problem?
Ok I think i got this video confused..I thought it meant I could use half the storage to give more internal storage on the actual firestick ....but it seems your splitting it in the drive . Which firestick now gives that option anyway when formatting the sdcard at the start
Not so sure about that one.
I'm pretty sure it's a 50/50 shot if it works or not
Hi this is good video
Please how can I get usb sign on my apps transfer from my internal storage
I am using new firestick 4K max with 16GB ie the second generation OS8
Hi there, This video is quite old. Check out this one:
ua-cam.com/video/MfpTk67bbh8/v-deo.html
Can I do this if I have a adaptor connected hard wired?
Yes, but to do that, you'll need the UGreen hub so you can hardwire the network cable and still have room for the USB Drive. Look in the description of this video for the Amazon link for it. It's cheap and works great. Plus you'll get faster speed than the Amazon network adapter.
Ive got the 4k with the 6.2 os.. after the app is on the usb device how can i get the app to download the movies to the usb? Iam using cinema hd currently
Ugh, do yourself a favor and upgrade to the 4k Max. it's handles USB storage SO much better.

If I wanted to do the 80/20 mix with a larger drive what would I type mix 20 or mix 80?
The number you enter is for the Internal/System Storage, so if you want 80% for External, you'd use the command: sm partition disk:8,0 mixed 20
is there a way to move from USB storage to internal FS storage? I loaded Xtremity Red and its buffering (prob due to old USB drive I used). If I can't move it how do I ensure new apps do NOT go to USB storage? do I just unplug the USB then install apk?
Yes, exactly what you said. If you want apps to get installed on the internal system storage, shut down and remove the USB drive, then start it back up and install whatever app you want there.
@@CordCuttersLI thank you for the prompt reply. can I ask what u mean by "shut down" the USB drive? I didnt see a way to properly eject it. as u know on OS6 the drive does not even show up. I dont want to cause an error on USB as I have other apps stored there. Is there even a way to properly power the the firestick? I just see the Rsstart option.
I meant shut down, or pull the power on the Firestick, disconnect the USB drive, power the firestick back up, then install the app. Then shut it down again, plug the USB back in, and power it up again.
How do you move apps already saved to the external storage device?finally it works for my fire stick on 6.2 🙏🏽
For that you'll need a file management app. Give me some details like what device and version you have and what storage you have. I'll be happy to help. You can shoot me email as well.

Very helpful video. Thank you. I do have a question though: after doing a mixed 50 command using ADB Shell as per your instructions it still didn’t show any additional storage for Firestick apps. It made more memory for my TiviMate recordings but didn’t add storage for additional Firestick apps. I’m using a Firestick 4K on OS 6.x.x.x with wi-fi and otg cable. When I do a df -h command it doesn’t show the bottom three lines you highlight in the video. It only shows the Firestick (internal) and additional memory on the USB drive. Am I doing something wrong?
It does sound like something went wrong. When you look at apps now after you install them, does it show you the little USB symbol icon next to that app in your managed applications screen?

What does your adb screen say for your USB drive?
Did you ever figure this out same happened to me i hate it when people do a tutorial but refuse to answer peoples questins for those that didn't work
However, if I put some movies, series, does it use the internal memory, occupying everything?
That depends on the app. Some apps. like TiviMate for example, will let you save recordings to the External USB storage. Other apps that don't have a way to change will automatically record to wherever the app is installed.
How do I check for usb if it has been connected on firestick with os 6
The X-Plore app will show you some info, and ADB Debugger will show more. Either way, I'd strongly recommend getting the new 4K max. The Price is cheaper than ever! Check the description of this video. I added some Amazon links to the new stuff in there. (Amazon does throw me a few cents when you do, much appreciated)
But seriously, the 4k max is a BEAST compared to the one 4k model.
Thank you sir.
I am using an old internal 150gb hard drive in an external HD case that I formatted to NFTS
I keep getting a "connection failed" message (connection refused)...I can't get beyond that message.

If I'm hearing you right, you may have to use a USB hub to connect your existing pen drive AND a larger one and use this video to copy to the larger one. ua-cam.com/video/ZEQO7IOuStg/v-deo.html

A big newbie here so this may be a stupid question, what is the difference between external and internal storage. If I only plan on installing extra apps for the family and not doing anything fancy, which storage do I need to increase?
Internal System Storage if it's mainly for Apps.

@cordcuttersLI ANYONE?
"Connection Failed"
I entered my proper IP address and 5555 for the port but I still get this error message.
Please help me.
Thank you for the prompt reply. This does ease my mind.

The 4k Firestick has FireOS version 6.x whereas the newer Firesticks have FireOS version 7.x
@@CordCuttersLI Thank You. Also I was able to use X Plore with my 4k to achieve the same results as ADB Shell
