Also These links lead to them on Amazon and try out audible its the cheapest way to get the audios. Ebay is a good place or second hand book shops for some of the older suggestions. Cheers.

As an old, old, 40k guy I really appreciate the respect and love you show to the classic lore tomes. Your narration of The Eye of Terror is a must listen for those getting into the scene. Yeah, it's old, but classics like that really helped establish "grimdark".
Also, can't recommend the Fabulous Bill novels enough.

@@bruni5289 Couple things, Warhammer is set in the far, far, future. If you go around carelessly miss appropriating with "Oldhammer" jokes it will scare anything born after 1999 away from easing into the grimdark. Lets face it, they need al the grimdark they can get, and we need a steady supply of fodder. What would be great is to get some female participants interested. That be a hard sell for sure. Maybe if Warhammer was to identify as Shoppinghammer, (a sexist would say) it would get us there. Plus we would get bonus points for accepting Warhammer's right to identify however he/she wants. Shopinghammer would be the door. Before you know it, you both will be calling it Sexhammer and everyone should be ok with that, even the table top.

Yes it makes more sense when you get the reason for the way craft world Eldar are organized with only one path for each Eldar, really interesting, like humans and even more not at their peak of civilization but backwards grime dark, like everyone except maybe the Tau with their marvelous A.I technology, which like the warp only brings the grater good in Warhammer lore 😯

Especially with your knowledge of the "older" lore n books where things were more colorful n a delicious primordial soup of theories n intrigue. You know, before things started becoming more sterile n clean cookie cut ha!
Great recommendations, I saw some older works that I started reading from my dad's collection when I first was getting into it as a teen n even some that I forgot n remember them being so good! (Like the Soul Drinkers series)

I read reviews on Audible…. And for the most part the GW WH books get solid ratings/reviews….
But I read some reviews to try and get a better understanding of the book.. One review will give it 1-star and say it’s horrible and boring… the next gives it 4/5 - stars and says it’s great…
So hard to get a solid understanding of how the book is… I know we all like different things.. but ithe reviews are just so all over..
And Audible gets weird if you start returning books “too often..”
I’ve returned a handful and now I can’t return any… pisses me off.

Tallarn Desert Raiders, Mordian Iron Guard
Also this regiment confuses me as they're also known as the acid dogs. Then the Valhallan Ice Warriors & so on? As some of these regimens are almost obscure but they're also some of the most well-known if that even makes any sense.

I've been looking for good and deep insights on 40K books, but everywhere I looked had the few same names repeated on their lists, and most of them were just not that good in my opinion. Yours was the only list I've found that had varied titles, with good reasons for each. I have read some of them already and was not super inspired by them, but I still got to hear of some titles I had not heard of before, so thank you for making this.
EDIT: The first novel I've read from Dan was following the release sequence, so Gaunt's Ghosts, and I did NOT like it. It was the first 40K book I didn't like. There are many reasons for that, including that it doesn't feel 40K to me (Gaunt is not a real commissar in my eyes), but I eventually read Eisenhorn, and then I started liking him as a writer. Still am not a fan of Gaunt's Ghosts.

The Emperor as a God is a powerful tool and weapon in Warhammer 40.000 which is totally different from the 30.000 crusade, and Horus heresy at the end of the crusade. It is both making people more vulnerable to Chaos, but the strongest in belief of the Emperor as a God can be the strongest weapons in the battle against Chaos, and empower the Emperor and he can also use them for the fight against Chaos by empowering them it seems. And if you as a human in 40.000 don’t believe you probably have a bad time with the Adeptus Arbites = Judge Dredd like police. And if you’re heresy is as deep rooted as ABORDER PRINCE ☸️ the Inquisition might notice your activity 🫵

I have to disagree. Even though the Emperium today is vastly different than it was during the Heresy, it still is part of it.
From the nature of chaos, to the nature of the Primarchs to nature of, all have their origins there.
With the return of the primarchs, the fact that the emperor didnt want to be a god is quite relevant, as his sons will have to cope with the new reality.
Furthermore some chapters also dont believe him to be a god.
As much as you say they are separate, they are not. It’s all interconnected and it just helps with fleshing out the universe, being able to see the evolution of it.
But this is just my opinion.

hard to do, so big... Id go for his list of lore videos, starting with the Emperor and then the Astartes and guards, followed by any other imperium lore, and follow on with the types of aliens, then go into campaign stories... its all here for you, you have hours of listening to do.

No offense, I disagree. I just got into the warhammer universe in the last year and I've read most of the books you mentioned.
I tried to get into warhammer for years and had a lot of trouble.
Warhammer lore, for some reason, has a huge difficulty starting point. Most of the books just assume you have a lot of starting knowledge.
The Caine series really helped teach me a lot.

The Emperor not wanting to be a god, while inevitably becoming one, is a critique of atheism not of religion. It’s infuriating how few people understand that.

I think it's both, the emperor was correct about religion being a shackle but 40k and the church shows how strong faith can be, without the religious fervour of the imperium humanity wouldn't have survived without Big E and the Primarchs, the imperial truth is great when you have a golden avatar fighting and directing us all but once he goes you need something to hold people together
Ironically the worship of the emperor saved his creations and his charges

    • @theodoremccarthy4438
      @theodoremccarthy4438 Рік тому +1

@@patchez058 in the context of the setting the implications of the outcome of the Emperor’s position are that strictly secular societies are:
      1. Based on a false ideology (i.e. the Imperial Truth)
      2. Maintainable only through brutality and mass murder (i.e. the purge of Monarchia)
      3. Sought not only in defiance of abstract evils (the Chaos “Gods”) but also in defiance of human nature (which fuel said “Gods”)
Keep in mind that both the authors and audience of the HH novels knew the Emperor would fail in his goal. It’s telling that the authors set him up to fail for being a secularist who lied to his followers rather than for actively trying to set himself up as a god. If he had been portrayed as failing due to deliberately setting up a religious system then the underlying critique of the novels would have been aimed at religion. Instead the authors are implicitly telling us, “lying to your followers and enforcing secularism doesn’t work”.

@@PodreyJenkin138 yes, but you have to remember that it was the lie of the imperial truth which doomed the Imperium to suffer the Horus Heresy, as it left the Emperor’s sons and followers unprepared and unprotected in the face of Chaos. Religion in the setting can be and has been abused, but it is also canon in the setting that real faith is the only defense against spiritual evil. The lesson there isn’t the religion is a shackle, but rather that like the Imperium itself it is a necessity which powerful men sometimes abuse for their own ends.

@@theodoremccarthy4438 eh, unbelief in 40k has it's own virtue, the Great crusade ran into numerous warp and chaos effected humans and xenos and didn't suffer immediate corruption, mostly due to not having a faith based mindset to twist, their lack of emotionalism shielded them
40k shows over and over that religious thinking is often the reason why humans can be twisted to chaos so suddenly, take logar for example, if he wasn't so desperate for a godhead to worship he wouldn't have been so misled by chaos, he said himself
"These gods actually answer me and want me to worship them" if he was atheistic and loyal like the rest he wouldn't have drank the Kool aid which happens over and over again for many imperial citizens for 10k years
The emperor was right primitive religion is a shackle for the mind if it's false, only when 40k reveals that belief has merit due to the warp does the imperial cult and chaos find value
Are you religious irl by chance?
