      And there is no way a meteor shower would only be visible from ONE location. Also who uses a telescope to watch a meteor shower, that is ridiculous. They didn't even try to make this premise make sense.

      @@TinyGhostyWell I mean there are "optimal viewing points" for spacial events.
      That eclipse a few years back in Oregon had people from all over the world show up to a tiny little desert town with literally no infrastructure for it.

    • @TinyGhosty
      @TinyGhosty 10 місяців тому +116

      @@FamChan123 Eclipses are different because your angle on the earth matters to view the full eclipse. The full eclipse was not ONLY in Oregon, there is a narrow optimal viewing angle that stretches farther than one singular location. Meteor showers are different than eclipses because the debris is hitting the entire section of the Earth that is angled towards the debris path left by comets and asteroids. Being in Northern/Southern Hemisphere is the main factor in determining a meteor shower viewing, as long as you are in the right section of the Earth with that section of sky above the horizon you will see meteor showers depending on your local weather and light pollution.

      @@TinyGhosty Thank you for the lesson, but I literally said optimal viewing area. Which implies there are other points that it is viewable; just not as easily seen.
      And the same can happen for meteor showers with the curvature of the earth and one's location.
      I don't think it's that bad of a plot device, was my point. The special effects however...

    I’m just yelling at the screen: “That’s not how meteor showers work!“
    They aren’t localized to a small town. Also you don’t use a telescope to watch a meteor shower! Telescopes have a vey narrow field of view, which is useless for observing a meteor shower that requires a wide-angle perspective! But all of that is pointless anyway because no one at NASA is going to establish a base to watch meteor showers!

    I watched a Hallmark movie with my mom once called Christmas in Vienna, which is about a violinist who travels to Vienna to play in a Christmas concert, and my mom and I were dying at the inaccuracies. Maybe we were especially predisposed to notice since we’re both musicians and my father is in the military, but it was just so painfully unrealistic. The main character Jess spent all the time before her concert putzing around the city and no time on screen practicing, and when she and the American diplomat had their third act breakdown, it was about him moving, and she was all like “no don’t move again, your kids will be sad, and I’m in love with you”. Like, lady, you think he can afford to not move when that’s literally in his job description, which is his only source of income since, I can’t really remember the details, but I’m pretty sure his wife died? Those kids are better off sad than starving.

    5:22 Gabi I kid you not. Back in 2006 I woke up in the middle of the night and there was a large blob in the sky that looked like a star, but was changing in brightness every few seconds. I looked up Stellarium and it wasn't marked as anything on it. It couldn't have been a plane, or a space station or a planet. I got my telescope out of my shelf and was setting it up, but the commotion caused my dad to wake up and told me to shut it and go to sleep since I had school the next day. I thought "oh well I'll probably check it out tomorrow". But it never appeared again. To this day I have no idea what it was and today I have a masters degree in physics with specialization in astronomy. I don't know what I saw that day and I wish there was some way to find out.

It is super awesome when you get something unexpected. I mean unless it turns out to be a glitch or a broken instrument or something; but if you can eliminate technical problems and you still have something you don't understand, holy shit, that could mean your life's work or the life's work of a bunch of future PhDs. You could be the discoverer of something really amazing. "I don't know" is the most important answer in science
