In this video I’ll explain some of the basic website terminology, as well as the process we use for building great value websites for start-up businesses. At the end of the video I’ll give you a top tip which will ensure that the website will stand out and be loved by you and your clients.
This video is for website beginners, so I’ll explain some of the basic website terminology. The best analogy I can think of is to compare your website to a flat in an apartment block.
So if your website is one of the flats in the apartment block, then the address of your flat is the domain name which looks like this www.yourcompany.co.za This address or domain name is managed and controlled by the Registrar of Domain names in South Africa. They charged an annual fee for you to own the domain name which needs to be renewed each year.
The next concept is the monthly hosting fee for your website which includes your company emails. For example [e-mail] To continue the analogy, this cost would be the monthly rent you pay to your landlord. The flat is your website and emails and the landlord is the hosting company. The hosting company is the block of flats where hundreds of other websites are hosted on servers in a datacentre. The monthly cost goes to maintaining the servers in the datacenter.

The primary difference between a starter website is that we do all the edits and changes, but with a WordPress site we can give you more control and access to the site by way of a username and password should you wish to make the changes yourself. So how do you start? Simply log on to our site and select which one of our services you prefer. Once you have submitted your choice one of our consultants will call you to confirm your selection before preparing and sending you an invoice.
Once you have settled the invoice, we will send you an email with a link for you to capture your domain name options and email information. Included in the link is a section for you to digitally sign the debit order confirmation, as mentioned earlier we must pay the “landlord” on your behalf for the server space.
We will test and confirm your domain name before we register it which will allow us to set up your email addresses. The next step is a follow-up email with two links; one with a large variety of templated based logos to choose from and the second link for you to send us the text and images you would like used on your website. This is all of the information we require to design your website for you.
Once we have received the information our design team will start working on your site. When it is complete, our administration team will review the work. Once they have checked that everything is in order you will get to see the site for the first time. This is the stage at which you can make changes or suggest improvements which will be done at no cost. Once you are satisfied with the website it will be deemed complete. Please be advised that any changes made beyond this point will be considered out of scope and will therefore attract extra charges.
My top tip is this; what you put in is what you get out which means that the better the quality of the inputs, the better the final product. We have found that the highest customer satisfaction is from those clients who have spent time composing their text and preparing good quality well thought out images.
