One thing i don’t think anybody realizes…the Amaran, this, and the Godox, etc…they’re all the same light made by the same Chinese manufacturer. Just rebranded and housed differently. They’re 99.9% the exact same light
I find this particular set of lights very convenient considering the price. I can just magine the various types of shots I can achieve with just these two lights. Thanks for this video. This is a "no bs" straight to the point channel. I love it. Keep them coming.
at 5:30 you address a big issue with most COB lights: They are awkwardly balanced even without modifiers attached. Why don't the manufacturers attach the mounting part further forward on the light 's body, so that there would be some sort of balance when a modifier is attached
Thanks for making this video. You motivated me to I pick up a 120D today. I couldn't believe how bright this thing is! I've got a week to play around with it before I get to use it on a shoot. fun fun fun. I'm going to use a Yongnuo YNLUX 100 in the array too. You should check one out. It's an absolutely incredible light for $100 USD.
there's some new affordable lights that perform well aaaaand you guys are presenting them...? SmallRig hopefully has their production increased already 😎🍿 exactly what I was looking for ✔️ keep up the great work 🍀
I have $500 to spend on a midrange, preferably bicolor, bowens mount light. I have the rc120d and like it but want something with more punch if I have to shoot outdoors or against harsh natural light. What should I get?
Great review, decent lights, I'd still go with Aputure given the choice, because I think they have a better overall eco-system and will push lighting technology better, but these seem pretty solid too.
I just read that they have an rc220 model now that's 260 watts with almost 100,000 lux on the 5600k. I'm curious how it compares to other similarly priced or more expensive models.
Unfortunately in South Africa the RC120D is $220 excluding shipping and import taxes and delivery fees and then it still gets held up at the post office for years. South Africa sucks and everything is expensive lol. I can get the Godox SL60 for $220 though.... but I'll stick to my $10 chinese strip lights and complain about it haha!
The rib design for a softbox is brilliant. With the way this light is clearly targeted for accessibility to the masses I'm glad someone is thinking of people who might not have the experience, space or time to set up a traditional softbox. By the way, this is a very random question but what is the name of the music you always use for the outros? I've never seen a channel that so perfectly matches the music with the tone of what's being said quite like your outro "don't subscribe" messages! If it's on a stock site I'd love to hear it just so I can finally get it out of my head.
I have some inexpensive lights similar to these that did not come with cases. If anyone could point me towards a good, low cost solution for transporting my lights in something other than their original packaging, I'd appreciate it. As an aside - I learned that the rolling case that a pop-up EZ-UP awning comes with is a good fit for my stands and c stand masts. I shove the thing full, sip it up and roll it out the door. You can buy an entire awning for less than a c-stand bag, although it won't hold the bases.
I think I'm going to buy these lights, so practical, but one question, do they come with the battery? that wasn't clear, i believe that you will need to buy the modifiers apart, right?
Those look a lot like my Aputures, like event the bag is identical except for the logo. Wonder if Aputure is making them for Smallrig, kind of like Godox/Flashpoint
1:34 I saw that, see guys, this is why you shouldn't subscribe to epic light media... hahaha On a serious note though, I find it a little weird that you avoided mentioning the aputure amaran line since these small rig lights are basically identical except for a couple features. They are almost exactly the same price, and the modifiers are even a little more expensive. If you had to give the main differences and advantages of these lights vs the amarans would they mainly be the aluminum base and the fact that you can power these with a V-mount? The V-mount attachment alone would be enough to win me over, the only reason I wouldn't buy these is that I already own aputure lights and using the sidus link with all of them makes it hard to justify switching.
@@Slingshot4FunTW I have no hands on experience with the small rig light, I own an amaran100x and am very happy with it, in fact I’ll be buying an amaran 200xsoon
@@toregresdal It comes from HMI lighting where the ballast is a fairly complex piece of kit. When people use the term with LED lights it really just means the controller and Power supply are separated from the head - There's probably a cooling advantage to this, which translates to a fan noise advantage in real-world use) For pro use, this also helps reduce weight up high and may make it easier to access the controller by allowing you to have it at ground level.
I'll admit, I haven't watched the whole thing yet so I don't know if you've mentioned it. Edit: oooh v-mount plate, I'm sold. These are screaming "Hey Aputure, can I copy your homework?" Yeah, I agree

What is the application/approval process to subscribe to your youtube channel since you guys are at max capacity? how long is the waiting list?

How are they compared to the Amaran 100/200Ds in both output and build quality? It seems like smallrig really did a good work here
Very curious about this as well!
they basically copied the Amaran series!
for me this is already a win as it comes with a travel case

I think you missed one test: Throwing the lights from off the roof. I'm sad now... :(
That only happens with c stands though

How often do you gel a key light?
how do you like the Lantern modifier they offer?
Love it
What stands were you using for those lights? They look very well built and would like to get them along with the lights themselves.

Must be huge markup on the lighting sector, or else smallrig wouldn't bother making clones of aputures
Go to Alibaba and you’ll see exactly how huge the markup is. They’re all getting the same light manufactured in China and rebranding it
@@2gunzfilms425 but same manufacturer does not mean same design or exact same components. They manufacture according to each company's needs

Identical to the Amaran lights.
Hi Little new to video , Just a question is is better to have a Bi-Colour light or buy a Daylight version and gel when needed?
Just get a daylight. They are stronger than bi-color of the same wattage and you will not use tungsten as much as you think you will.
