    The title says it all. Kuzushi is most important. I learned that over 50 years ago and use kuzushi in everything. Life is a circle.

    The way I was taught to study Kuzushi, was to look at the axises of rotation used/employed. A single axis throw is easiest to defend, all three the most difficult. For the sake of simplicity, think of a forward roll as one axis, a cartwheel as the second and spinning as the third (x, y, z for the math people). Grip, wrist rotation, wedges, etc. are means to achieve the desired multi axises throws.

      @@ascensionjournals1185 early on the way we teach kuzushi, is with the gripping. One hand can push forward or back… parallel to the ground. The second hand can pull up or down which is a second rotation (cartwheel). In gripping to do three, you need to get where you can do these two “moves” with one hand and the last one with the other hand. Alternatively, you can do one rotation with either hand and use a foot for the third (foot stop, knee wheel, foot sweep, etc). I hope this helps, it’s much easier for me to see what your doing, and demonstrate what’s missing or not as clean. Break practicing down, do each one individually, then each set of two, then all three. Do this every practice, I believe that practicing fundamentals are they key to good technique.

    Chadi, keeping your tsurite wrist close is brilliant! I preach kuzushi in my class until I'm blue in the face, but for a long time Judoka, little things like that are often done without ever being pointed out with words. It's very easy to do without realizing, but now I will be sure to bring that up in my class tomorrow night. Thank you for the wonderful content!!

    Kuzushi is the most important element in Judo, in my opinion. It's very hard and difficult to throw an opponent that has a stable position. Only with brute force you can do it if you don't use Kuzushi. Once you master it, you master Judo. It's very important not only for attack, but for defense. When you learn to play Judo keeping your balance and posture and try to break you opponent's, then you start to learn true Judo.
    Why I say it's very important for defense? Once you learn Kuzushi, you know what your opponent is going to do, so you counter it without much effort. Have you watched Mifune's videos? Perfect balance and counter of Kuzushi.

      @@julianyo7072 also like to imagine and eventually you feel tour opponent winding up like a spring or coil when he attacks with good technique. That really helps feel the movement pattern of all throws and automatically kazushi kicks in for defense or conversely same thing for you upon attack. Kazushi, gripping, footwork simply become correct a d powerful movement together once added together. Judo is life, full of energy.

    This may be off topic, but I would say that 75% of the throws shown in this video are not ippon. I think the definition of an ippon remains the same. Throw your opponent flat on his back in a controlled way. If you are rolling over and land in a non-dominant position, it should be a waza-ari, and everything below should be a Yoko. Landing on your face is definitely not an ippon. If you want to finish the fight after an uncontrolled throw, do it on the ground (ne-waza).

    right, so with the judogi you can hold at the hand but you are moving it to pull at the armpit, so its like your hand is at the armpit pulling even if it is at the arm.

      Watch the Korean Judokas HanpanTV on UA-cam. They have many videos (though in Korean with bad english subtitles), which explain why the upward pulling during Uchikomi is never actually used in practice, and it is never a key element for a throw to happen - and sometimes, it is actually hindering you.
      They are trying to teach a more practical and applicable form of Judo, and getting rid of the more traditional techniques and movements that appear to be more for demonstration than anything else. They are concerned with what actually works during randori and shiai.

    This might be Japanese Judo kuzushi, but it isn’t how some of the koryu approach it, far from it. Kuzushi as we understand in MotoHa Yoshin Ryu JuJutsu is about demolishing structure, skeletal and muscular structure, so the opponent has no ability to resist. It’s much more of a downward spiral of the spine than anything involving lifting people. Even that is quite a simplistic description. But then we don’t have anything close to Judo style throws really as that’s a different style entirely.

  • @jon7222
    @jon7222 Місяць тому

    Ah "kuzushi" the most misunderstood and abused word in Judo. "Why didn't that throw work?" "Not enough kuzushi!" It's basically used as a catch all word for any and all reasons a throw wasn't successful. If a throw was successful, then there must have been enough kuzushi. It's become a worthless term. "More kuzushi!" Might as well just tell someone to try harder haha.
