You are practically using the Italian form of Longsword HEMA. Point Control, emphasis on Distance and Reach, Footwork and particularly nasty low counter/riposte leading to a high guard/Hawk Guard then a brutal cut from on high or an elegant stab or slit on vitals. Without knowing you have mastered one of the most beautiful sword forms in European Martial Arts, albeit digitally.
I´m more of an axeman myself, but I respect how good you´ve gotten with the sword! If this game ever gets multiplayer I´d love to square up against you.
I do that in the higher tiers where there is armor but not a lot of back of neck armor, and then I use it like a saw just 90mph left to right with the mouse
New favourite youtuber. I've played this game since before the playtest, its something special, and not just a funny ragdoll slashing simulator. Great to see someone really exploring the mechanics, even so eaely into development

@@OVRDTHif your looking to experiment with historical guards, i find that you can pretty accurately create 3 historical guards, those being alber, pflug, and ox. You can some what recreate a high guard, and while i was never able to recreate it, i once found myself in something resembling vom tag, but that was with a greatsword.
I would liken your style with the long sword with the unarmed analogy of a counter puncher, you draw your oppenent in so they open themselves up for a well timed counters.
It's fascinating that the very reasons why a hand and a half/long sword became so popular in real life, are emulated very very very well here....obviously the game mechanics are wild in that way...but it takes a swordsman to show it like you do. Fiore, Meyer, Leichtenauer, Talhoffer, ect....would nod their heads in approval I think. 🤘👍

A tip from IRL martial arts that applies to this game: Cuts and thrusts can easily set each other up, ie. You can cut into an attack to setup a thrust, and use a thrust to "morph" into a cut. This works with nearly any weapon! Edit: the alt key was talked about here, guys it's the same principle

Haven't played this game yet but very intrigued by your tutorial videos. The character animation when you move the sword outside the parry zone looks a bit confusing, because it looks like the posta Frontale in Fiore (i actually don't know what its called but its what i use to parry zwerchs irl so it's frustrating to see the opponent cut right through that guard). Imo if the character isn't ready to parry any more it should go to post di donna.

I'm not sure if it's the recent patches or if they nerfed the bludgeon weapons, but I'm having trouble connecting my hits with the mace. I wouldn't mind a guide video for how to use that properly.
Tried your tactics and they work very well, however I personally like to use half swording which is good for blocking overhead attacks and can deal deadly damage to opponents even with helmets.
@@Corn_Ms Blocking overheads can be very easy without half swording. It involves transitioning from a lower guard to a higher guard and utilizing the change in animation once the swords connect.
You dont need to half sword to hurt helmets. Ive found half swording isnt as necessary on foot exept for blocks. you can generate a lot of force from a longer reach by holding the sword normally, and if you do swings from the ground up you can hit enemies under their arms and are safer. Half swording would be more useful in real life where the knights would also have chainmail in the gaps of their amor. They just wear a gambison underneath the plate in game

Do you think you’ll eventually be adding features like filters/tags, “folders” or “groups” to the selector? I’m trying to classify all the swords based on Oakeshott Typology. i have taken information from this video and i have improved alot from what he says, i did not know about holding shift for a stance before this video and now i have improved alot. i have also played with the longswords (its very fun) and because of that, my spikey stick swings have become more precise and my battles, more entertaining.
I really hope the devs can find ways to optimize the game a bit more. Ive noticed its very very heavy on my CPU and it almost seems like I dont have quite as much control because of it, but it also could be partly my skill thats lacking. I say that because the controls feel significantly worse when theres more ai opponents vs in the single combat. I wonder if they could send certain physics calculations to the gpu. Id gladly run on lower visual settings if it means the game is smoother and more responsive overall.

Have you played around with switching hands with the sword? I've found fighting southpaw is also particularly effective since the ai can't switch hands to match the southpaw angles
@hschan5976 it's when you fight left handed. you usually have your dominant hand be behind your left foot so by switching hands you also switch feet usually though the game might not switch feet. So it's a good way to fight against the ai because it can only fight with it's right hand giving you a massive advantage. The hotkey is x in the game if memory serves me correct.
Question: how do you defend against overhead strikes? My character does not adjust his sword position even in neutral and my opponent just straight up bypasses my guard
now i get there’s the mod to load presets, but how are you making your own custom presets? like the one you used throughout the video, which has the longsword, chainmail neck, clamshell gauntlets, plate arms and legs and a front-only chest plate. that one is completely impossible to get without modding the game, but as far as i know your mod doesn’t have any features which enable you to create a custom loadout
@ im assuming that means you’re removing items from your character and saving the loadout, but as far as im aware, you cant drop armour, and cant get stuff like the greatsword via vanilla means

Love your videos... but you need to throw some high pass filtering or compression/expansion on the ends. with a subwoofer it's almost impossible to understand you. Either that, or you're far too close to your mic. There's bass resonance and that's not a good thing for voice overs lmao.
After 120 hours i feel like the ai should be made more fatal. Make them aim at weak spots, make them take advantage of the size of their weapon. Make them actually try to keep distance, maybe even turning around to run away from a madman with a sharp stick rushing at them. Maybe make them actually try to thrust with knives, swords, polearms etc. Make them dodge your attacks and maybe even be able to parry yout attack if you telegraph it good enough. The ai just gets stale. And looking at how some people cant really hit their shots or maybe even cant stab with alt, there should be a setting for advanced ai.
I’ve been talking to Franky about the AI and he’s putting in work. AI is hard to as it is. The AI is also better than people think, but they don’t stop swinging to figure it out.
@OVRDTH Well, I don't swing, I poke. If you stand in place they don't try to rush you, they just sit there, walking in circles and farming mad frags on the air. The ai is pretty good, but it's also very easy to beat. They also should probably make some better focusing system that isn't just attacking the closest enemy. And I think something should change about blunt hit detection, because I think it just counts pushing with a weapon as a hit every physics iteration. I can't know how it's coded, but it seems like it. They probably should either make a speed threshold so it would only do knocking out damage if the weapon is going at a certain speed, or they should use the relative speed to the part that it hit and not just normal speed. I don't really know if it's coded like that in chaos physics or by the half sword devs neither. Just giving some ideas for fixing this.
