Towards the end of the video, you can also appreciate the "Wiener oboe", another "heritage instrument" characteristic of the Wiener Philharmoniker, direct descendant of "Classical" (late-18th Century) instruments just fitted with a more extensive keywork.
A beautiful solo (!) although a bit understated. Wolfgang Tombock's: Schumann "Adagio & Allegro" comes the closest to Cerminaro's, too. His sound is lovely & carries the old tradition wonderfully. A great post! More please!!
@@ForYou-ub6uc The horn is basically a single horn that has to be tuned by adding crooks at the beginning - Bb, Eb A etc. It has a different piston vs rotary valve system. It is a bit more difficult to play. Sound wise, slight differences. I have heard this piece in french horn by a skilled player and I cannot tell much of a difference, although, if had to pick, i would go with the french horn. they are regarded by some as the pinnacle of french horn sound. Yet, there are many makers of horns, out there, Alexander, paxman, Conn, Holton, Yamaha, custom made and some custom modified etc. Each has its own quality. I have a custom mod Yamaha and it is better than any I have heard from the list above. At the end of the day, it is the player that makes the difference.

Beautiful Horn playing, as you'd expect from a member of the VPO. This clip also unexpectedly reminded me of how much I loathed Karajan
finally a recording where the fh and conductor are on the same page

viennese horn instead of french horn
What are the differences?
What kind of valves are those? Beautifully played.
