I agree with it all, also “The Guest” is one of those movies that happen on/around Halloween movies you were talking about.
You are totally right. I have three "go to" Halloween movies, all "classics" aka old: Hocus Pocus (of course), Elvira Mistress of the Dark and Beetlejuice. I sometimes throw Love at First Bite in to mix things up.
The original intent for the Halloween franchise was for it to be an anthology series with different unrelated stories under the “Halloween” banner. They tried this with Halloween 3: Season of the Witch (which is actually, really good) but everyone at the time wanted more Michael Meyers. Honestly I wish they had kept the anthology concept, we could’ve had a “Halloween” movie almost every October for the past 40 years.

Antenna tv channel had a 1939 movie yesterday called "The Man They Could Not Hang" starring Boris Karloff. not a trick or treat halloween thing. but had a decent plot

I'm not gonna lie... I was looking at the posting history of a guy on the /r/RedLetterMedia subreddit 2 days ago, mostly because he made a really funny post. He had a video with a really great looking and funny James Bond parody short. There were these mercenaries and one of them was a blonde that, I felt, had a great look for a mercenary and I knew I had seen her before but I couldn't find anything with her.
I'm at that point in my life where I kinda think I'm going crazy and I thought that blonde was gonna be the newest reason to make me think I was finally losing it.
Today this video drops and I breathe a sigh of relief.
The mercenary blonde that I knew I had seen before was Jennifer McD.
Phew... I'm not crazy (yet).
BTW, that Bond Parody video was great, good job!

I think this video needed a stronger thesis, or a more provocative idea, to really get going. Like another poster said, you can't sell Halloween movies in a lotnof countries, because the American version of Halloween just doesn't stick. Halloween just doesn't have as many strong associations like Christmas has (love, family, togetherness, etc.) So there is nothing Halloween really "owns" which would require a movie studio to specifically make any movie a Halloween movie. It probably also doesn't help that while Christmas has been commercialized to oblivion, its core ideas still have traction. Halloween just doesn't have that, there is really no weigth behind it. Even the mythos of Trick or Treat is more cute and campy than anything.

My Devil's Night was so damn awesome I just woke up from a vodka induce coma and found your video. Yes, I'm twitchy and highly dehydrated, but hitting the like button was not a mistake. Damn it, yes, we need straight up "watch if you dare" Halloween films - not only because the idea is great, but because is right. If anything will counter the torrent of romantic Hallmark channel "Mythmas" movies we get every year. An annual Halloween based anthology series every night starting on October 30th until November 25rd; the 27 nights of Halloween...(to hell with "turkey-holocaust" day...smh. Okay, I'm gonna open a Gatorade now...

The biggest problem with Halloween movies is that it is a North American thing, the rest of the world doesn't celebrate Halloween. The film studios won't earn as much money of it, when it is a very niche movie thing. Maybe that is why they don't do more of them.

Haunt, Hell Fest, Blood Fest and Trick all fit the bill of "Halloween" movies and are definitely worth a watch if you haven't seen them.
