I forgot about explosive bullets ohno! But they blow you up too if you're not careful, so you be the judge of that!
It's okay. If a sniper rifle hit you with that kind of bullet, it will instakill not just non boss enemies, but also yourself.
They are only really good for destroyer but ol

the big pro about nano bullets is thay when they bounce, they bounce towards the nearest enemy, making them pretty much a budget chlorophyte bullet

What I like most about the luminite bullets is that it comes in stacks of 333. You can easily get perfect stacks of luminite bullets.
Most annoting part of Terraria is the last single ammo taht doesn't fit in the stack
It's such a simple detail that makes me very happy
And now they had to go and make the stacks 9999...🙄😂

technically, there's one more prehardmode bullet
the party bullets can be used in prehardmode with the use of pigronatas, which have 10 base damage, meaning if you're willing to spend that kind of money they're pretty solid for prehardmode

they're actually not half'a bad! I used them to go all the way from the very start of the game up to WoF because i used the "for the worthy" seed and you spawn with the party girl, so youc an get a bit of cash, buy some and then dupe them for one of the best bullets for pre-hardmode

The endless musket ball pouch is an amazing item because it allows you to save your precious rare ammo for when you actually need it without having to worry about keeping more than one slot of musket balls around.
It's also great as a fallback for when you inevitably run out of your main ammo in a prolonged fight
I use it in all non-boss fights as the high damage or powerful effects are not the best for multiple small targets.

Ichor gives -20 defense which is essentially +10 damage for every bit of damage. Really good for a ton of bullets like crystal bullets, bad for slow things like sniper.

This might not be relevant to many people, but in PvP situations, Nano bullets are potentially amazing. Adrenaline + Confusion Debuff + Bouncing Bullets are one hell of a combo.

Real life adrenaline. Calamity mechanic affects bosses only, and more importantly, is not vanilla.

The +2 damage from silver bullets can be a significant increase depending on the weapon. The minishark for example, changing to silver bullets is a 15% damage increase. Potentially even more depending on the enemy's defense
The high kb of exploding bullets can be very valuable in early hardmode, especially with the shotgun, onyx blaster or clockwork assault rifle. It's really bad to use at close range because of self damage though.
However, exploding bullets still have 1 last trick.
They can abuse the star cloak. Spikes and lava no longer activate the effect, but exploding bullets do. The player gets 6 s from them. Guess which weapon has a use time of 6?
The minishark. Not reforging the minishark is optimal because of s. If you equip the star cloak, and damage yourself by firing the minishark, you'll practically become a weapon.
Ahh, and there goes another way to cheese the destroyer

I like using silver bullets in pre hardmode, I only use so much silver in a normal playthrough, after I craft tools and maybe a set of armor I just sell or ignore any silver I find, so it's a pretty good use for excess silver if you're a ranger
Actually, farming luminite is fairly easy on classic mode, the only annoying part is summoning it because you need to go through the hell known as the Lunar events
unless you have boss summons. But either way, to get those you have to farm the pillars :P

I think nano bullets are a bit better (on pc) since they have smart bounce which can probably compensate for bad aim.
Or you can just use chlorophyte if you dont want to aim at all

Really only summoners are able to inflict debuffs on the destroyer he is practically immune to everything
Chlorophite bullets are usually my go-to, since I usually just spray and pray. And as a little tip for them, they always target the enemy closest to the player
really wish i had found this sooner, i literally killed the destroyer with musket bullets cause i had no idea crystal bullets existed or meteor shots, and the destroyer was immune to ichor.
Exploding bullets are also really good for fast-to-make high damage projectiles that offer minor aoe damage to enemies.

Explosive bullets are amazing right at the start of hard mode. The extra knock back can save you from tanky enemies like mimics or possessed armor. Also great against bats.
Now I want to do a Terraria America class playthrough :)
this is a great guide. it provides a great introduction to different bullets, as well as their primary uses and effects. you give a good way for each of the bullets to be used and their power level, while leaving some of it opinion-based and let the viewer decide where they should be prioritized. I hope to see more of these in the future!

I'll be honest, your voice is perfect for tutorials- so calm and relaxed. :)
Don't forget that meteor shot has a bug where when used in any type of shotgun, only one bullet hits for single targets, you will likely notice this with the boomstick in pre hard mode, but it applies to all shotguns. I find that for pre-hardmode the boom stick with silver bullets is on par with the mini shark.
High velocity bullets also have a small amount of penetration, which goes a long way for crowd control in events like the pirates, or any mob farms you might make for souls, keys or cash

High velocity do have piercing from what I saw, it’s worth mentioning.
And nano bullets actually bounce into enemies after hitting a surface. Kinda like a “smart bounce” or something like that.

I love pairing explosive bullets with accessories that spawn things that hurt enemys, like the one that spawns stars when you get hurt
They only do 4 to 10 damage to you and knock you around but you can shred anything above you if you are grappled to something
Also they have actual knock back, and well, explode, so they are good at condensing a crowd and hurting all of them at once
I love using exploding bullets and the clockwork assault riffle, it's 3 explosions for the price of one

this start is wholesome af ngl
crystal bullets creating 3 shards instead of 2 on mobile and console makes an even bigger difference than you might think. I was getting over 1k dps with the onyx blaster on the twins without even using specialised ranger equipment.
One thing I'll say about the silver bullet is they are monstrous with the mini shark. On account most early game guns are fairly hard hitting (20+ damage with minor upgrades/armour) with a slow rate of fire, they're very inconsequential with most guns. But the minishark being the fast firing option (with a use time iirc in the 6-7 range), the bullet dealing upto 3-4 more damage (again, with the use of damage upgrades) will yield a decent boost to DPS, high-crit loadouts (you can see a pretty fair 33% pre-hardmode with the minishark without too many lucky accessories and the agile modifier (personal favourite)), you could very easily see a +30-80DPS (I'd put that around the 50 mark with the afformentioned crit chance of 33%) boost to DPS. Add in the stinger and shark tooth necklaces and you have a very very high DPS loadout that's only a fraction as effective with musket balls.
My favorite is either meteor shot or ichor. Broomstick will tear through pre-hardmode and meteor shot fixes it’s one weakness; crowd control.

Chlorophyte bullets are also excellent with shotgun weapons since they’ll usually converge on a single target and can deal massive damage with a single shot.

I did a bit of grinding for a corrupted chest..
My go to combo for most of hardmode is Uzi + endless musket pouch + frost armour. Free infinite ammo that is easy to aim, has good damage, pierces and deals damage over time. You could take on the post plantera solar eclipse with ease with it and probably use it up to the celestial pillars (of course other options are available but I imagine it's viable for the event). Also frost armour frost burn effect is buffed from regular frost burn, it does 25DPS iirc and the Uzi can hit 3 targets in a single shot, you basically get a shitton of free damage!

Silver bullets do have another minor upside to musket balls.
They work with the bullet comversion effects of guns like the uzi. While still providing at least a slight damage upgrade.
What arguably the best part of the high velocity bullets is is that they have 6-ish pierce, its great for crowd control

as somebody who just recently started a master mode playthrough, (first time BTW!) I literally *Gasped* when he killed an eater of souls with one musket shot
if you use the endless musket pouch with the uzi you effectively have infinite high velocity bullets with a really good gun for how early you can access it

I only use nano bullets.. Really amazing for crowd control and the bounce is pretty usefull to hit in impossible angles.. Also the high velocity bullets for extreme accuracy.

Something I noticed while playing (on tmodloader, so it's possible this is caused by just 1.3, or some change calamity adds) is that meteor shots do cause an immunity problem when fired too close together. Bursts of bullets or rapid enough fire can cause several to not hit the target, and overall make you do less damage with some guns (onyx blaster for example) than regular musket balls would. I assume it's a result of the peircing effect handling weirdly.
If it doesn't apply like this in 1.4, then now you know for next time you play modded...
This has always been a thing even in vanilla, which is why I consider meteor shots a downgrade unless you’re exploring, where bouncing and piercing shots work nice in picking off stragglers and unseen enemies in places where the geometry isn’t smooth
It's worth mentioning that while the meteorite bullets are the most powerful pre-hardmode they also cause invincibility frames, which isn't a problem for most guns but shotgun type guns, particularly the boomstick at that stage will only inflict the damage of one of the bullets in the spread due to these frames so don't use them with shotguns.
That bug was fixed in 1.4

I know im late and someone might have already said this but Meteor shots arent actually post EoW or BoC, you can find those meteor shots in chests near the underworld but this is pretty rare so so dont expect much from this method

fun fact: the cascade which drops during prehardmode in the underworld actually has a chance of being dropped by the wall of flesh being your last possible opportunity to aquire the weapon
i go from regular musket balls, to meteorite shot, flip a coin for crystal bullets or the world evil bullets, and then get high velocity bullets probably around post plantera or so
Tungsten pickaxes also mine meteorite, but not the Silver one!

Especially considering that Holy Arrows and Crystal Arrows can be obtained very early into Hardmode, and the fact that there are a ton of powerful ranged weapons available at the same time.
World feeders also drop cursed flames if you are too weak to handle the underground, they spawn above ground as well.
bullets tierlist (my opinion)
*OP* - crystal bullets (its really good , you can use golden shower and then use a gun with crystal bullets and you can shred the enemies)
venom bullets (the damage over time is good i guess)
ichor bullets (this bullet is carrying me , i wasnt able to beat duke until i made an artificial crimson , i made alot of ichor bullets , and i somehow beat duke because i used ichor bullets and then switch chlorophyte bullets and then switch back to ichor when the effect is out
*good* - chlorophyte bullets (i suck at aiming so this bullet is my go to bullet for my gun , but the low damage kinda makes it kinda overwelming so i pair it with ichor bullets)
luminite bullets (i dont use it since theres no point of piercing in endgame , sdmg or celebration mk2 shreds event so piercing has no point of using)
cursed bullets - (i used this for the twins and skeletron prime i thinks its good)
*okay* - meteor bullets (this bullets is decent for wof)
high velocity bullets (i dont use it but some people think its good so i will just say its okay)
musket balls ( its a decent bullet for some bosses like plantera but i would rather just use crystal bullets for plantera)
*meh* - party bullets (my phone is bad so my phone cant handle too much things on the screen)
tungsten/silver bullets (i dont think this bullet is good since mining tungsten and silver is boring as hell , you can do more productive things rather than mining tungsten or silver , you can craft it if you have some spare silver or tungsten)
explosive bullets (i would die to the explosions before the god forsaken boss)
Infinite ammo pouch is the only thing I ever use. Then Clorox bullets to really clean the world of The Moon Lord.
It’s also worth noting that crystal bullets are kinda your only option for the destroyer, as it’s immune to debuffs like cursed flames and ichor

I love venom bullets. They carried me through late hardmode when I did my master mode play through because they were cheap, strong and accessible

The chlorophyte bullets work amazingly with the tactical shotgun.
Meteor shots are not post Eater of World/Brain of Cthulhu, as meteors can start spawning when you break a heart or a orb.
I'm very new to the game and I've learned way to much and on my second playthrough that was solo this time, I beat the moon lord. But I wonder if people use the flamethrower a lot or if it's useless, cause the flamethrower is so good against phase 2 of plantera. With no immunity to knockback the little tentacles make it such a hassle. The flamethrower works well in getting rid of them and planteras health. It is a ranged weapon though
I really like you more than the other terraria youtubers, your voice is soft and caress the ears, with a bit of a french accent (am I right?) that gives it a nice sexy sweetness
