  • A garden should be a private, secure and peaceful place. Successful garden design takes into account how an outside space operates as an ecosystem but also how well it works for human inhabitants.
Creating privacy can be an important consideration, especially in more built-up urban environments. High walls and high fences, however, are not the only option. Choosing the right planting plan is also important. Here are 7 Fastest growing shrubs and bushes for creating privacy.

0:42 we lined our acre lot with Leland cypresses and 8 years later they’re all dying. Have been for a few years now. Some were planted 12 hrs ago and are like 20 ft tall and totally dead. Some have fallen down and some we’ve pulled out and burned, but it’s an eyesore. They’re so prone to disease and pests.
We started planting upright arborvitae (so bad how it’s pronounced here) and they seem to do much better.

Had the opposite experience here in the south. All the aborvitaes in the neighborhood dyed last year large and small during the drought. All my cypress are fine.

If you're in the coastal Pacific Northwest, you already know salal, rhododendrons, and Oregon berry, let alone the wild invading blackberries. If you're on the rainshadow side, you know tumbleweeds X'D.

The Cotoneaster looks very attractive. I would like to plant a row down a powerline. This might be what I'm looking for. Are the birds in favor of the berries?
