I see the orginal cover being more like 1989 but because she said she had to write it reminding me of red. I wonder if its going to be like red in the sense of directness
Zomg - so hyped by your video - I read the album cover as a continuation of the ennui and sadness which caused the sleeplessness in previous albums. For instance - Anti-hero lyrics - “midnights become my afternoons” - the light implies she is still in bed, depressed in the afternoon. The pillows are on the side of the bed of her “missing” lover. Years after my breakup I still sleep on “my side” of the bed I see this album as a confession that Taylor is the tortured poet and the department is investigating the case of how the poet became tortured. The plural form of poets, to me, implies that each song is going to investigate each of the breakups and more accurately her part/reaction to them and how they ended each “era” As you point out, the absence of colour calls back to folk lore - which was an investigation of a fantasy world, and of reputation - which was an investigation into the destruction of “the old Taylor” who couldn’t come to the phone. So my take is TTPD will be an investigation into the all the old Taylors and each of the eras and the residue of each of the Midnights. Including the self-blame that comes when one deeply interrogates “their part” in “it” (whatever the event might happen to be). I also suspect contemporary Taylor is going to be narrator, in charge of all the former Taylors - investigating each of their circumstances- similar to how she held dialogue with herself at the end of the reputation film clip. Or you know - its just going to be lyrical genius that we love forever :)
oh wow, i like your connection to the anti-hero lyrics and the whole concept of sleepless nights! i really enjoy all the points you made! very well thought out and so interesting 😊 especially how TTPD may be in investigation into the "old taylors" with contemporary Taylor narrating! such a cool concept!! thank you for sharing 😊✨
I agree and had the same thoughts looking at the track list… fresh out the slammer? Guilty as sin?? I spiraled one night with this theory after dreaming about the Alcott lyrics. “Did my love aid and abet you?” Ties in perfectly “Everything that’s mine is a landmine” is giving TTPD “tick tick tick of love bombs” 💣 “Have I become one of your problems” gives you’re losing me “I know my pain is such an imposition” The imagery of her golden notebook 📒 🪶 “Read my sentence out loud, because I love this curse on our house” 😭 makes me think of TTPD and Ivy. She keeps repeating “I think I’m falling back in love with you” and it’s giving labyrinth ughhh I love her mind!! Rant over 🙃

The tortured poets department is us, swifties. Club conotates small, department evokes huge.
great point! i think it's totally possible that swifts are the department 👀 thank you for sharing 😊
