I like to think this song is about augustine cuz she knew james was never hers but she always hoped james would whole heartdly love him like she is and she is so in love with him that all she cares about is his love, his attention (not negatively). In this one Hoax's narrator does not believe Mirrorball loves him, as Mirrorball is a living robot ⚕🤖. Thus is confused as to why Mirrorball is being so affection to him. Way beyond his unusual motive of infiltration. It is more awkward and frustrating than sad. Hoax's narrator explains how he became psychic. Mirrorball eventually explains he loves Hoax's narrator as he sees Mirrorball's true nature as a living robot. They get together at the end. They confess their true love 💗 together. It is over the top and both lovers are terrible people, so you don't feel bad for them. =================== This is likely a reference to the idea that paradigm-shifting information gained from psychic transmission cannot enter human consciousness: "And when you can't sleep at night (you hear my stolen lullabies)" Thus, she needs to have the information she wants him to know be hidden information. I can't help but think in my relationship with my ex-boyfriend while I hear this song, like, I'm always there by his side wanting recognition, I dont really want to be his partner again but I can't help this part of me that knows that no matter how much he wants to be with someone we were just made for the other. And the fact I know I should cut all contact because it makes me sick to think like this, but just a message from him makes me feel happy. After having a husband with an addiction blow up our life and then he died from the addiction… I did wear the same jewels that he gave me when I buried him. He didn’t have it in him to go with grace. I’m still dealing with the aftermath and cleaning up behind him. In the end I had to leave our home for my child to not be around any of that, but still loved and cared for him until the end. I feel like this song is him and I singing it to each other, as he passed.

To me this entire song is about someone who is very special to the protagonist and they might know eachother and the other person has so much positive stuff going on (being in a band having a sister) and the protagonist may habe nothing exciting going on and that to other person is older then them and is deciding to move away but the protagonist might lose contact with them and is scared they won't speak again or see each other again and the protagonist is asking them to not become a stranger and hope they still talk. I thought of this because this is something going on with me right now and when i listen to the song it hits very hard and relatable because the person is in a band has a younger sister and older then me and will be leaving school this time next year and we only became friends a few months ago so we aren't close and im scared we wont see eachother as much
