I always click you on and then give a thumbs up before I watch the episode cause I know I am going to enjoy what you are presenting. I am a big fan of Clift but I didn't realize how young he was when he died. You are very correct in saying Cliff was lucky that his face was ever put together enough after the accident to be able to continue working, but oh what they can do now is unbelievable.
I knew almost everything in this video about him, but I hadn't realized he was only 46. I thought sure he was a decade older. I remember reading about him after he died. The magazine article called his facial reconstruction "botched", but I didn't think he looked that bad -of course, I was just a kid. He definitely looked different, but the accident really messed him up. I'm glad Steve pointed out that it wasn't bad surgery for its time. Monty definitely didn't agree. Poor guy. Terrific actor.
Thank you for this episode; Clift was so talented and yet so tragic. I really liked him in Suddenly Last Summer, but From Here To Eternity was a tough one with the bar fight scene. Tough yet fragile.
Sadly Montgomery Clift and Spencer Tracy legends during the Golden Era of Hollywood died shy of a year of each other with Clift in 1966 and Tracy in 1967 at age 67.
Montgomery Clift he had such a beautiful smile! I am young but I have nothing to do with the time of today. You sir reminds me of a good friend who told me a lot about movies, movie stars and Hollywood. Unfortunately, he now has Alzheimer's and lives in a nursing home. He was also in the film business himself. I see Roy Rogers in the background of you. He was also a fan of Rogers! Now it's nice to listen to you, thank you!
A Place in the Sun and Suddenly Last Summer were my 2 favorite films of Clift’s. He portrayed angst more effectively than any actor of his era. I always wondered what his life and career would have become if he hadn’t had that car accident. He likely would have gone on to win an academy award.
Unfortunately Montgomery Clift dealt with a long battle of addiction to alcohol and drugs when he had his car accident his addiction became worse when he crashed his car in 1956. His addictions led to his death in 1966 just 3 months shy of his 46th birthday.
Definitely agree about him in A Place In The Sun. Just saw The Heiress for the first time ever, about ten years ago. He was fine, but his character was a bum. Not my favorite role of his.
I found him perfect along with his equally well cast fellow actors in "Suddenly, Last Summer." I loved "Raintree County" but "Suddenly ..." is my top pick.
I watch a good number of such youtube videos but really enjoyed this, it is the first time I thought ‘I must dig out his films and watch them again’, highly talented actor, I did watch Red River very recently and enjoyed it immensely.
I remember Rod Steiger, in an interview, said Monty Clift was stunningly handsome. His facial reconstruction had to have a severe effect on his self esteem and confidence. Only 45 when he died. That is so young. I also remember a quote from Marilyn Monroe saying, "He was the only other person who had more problems than she did." That is saying a lot. May Montgomery Clift rest in peace.
MC was very beautiful until he had that wreck. Have watched The Heiress several times. A great movie with all actors hitting their marks. Even the maid was noticeable. Olivia was outstanding and had to spend hours in makeup to actually make her unattractive. Her scene with her father late in the movie was so gratifying.
Not too long ago, I was watching The Misfits. I enjoyed it, though I don't believe it was the best performance of Marilyn, Clark or Monty. Knowing all three would die not long after the film's release does lend some poignancy to it. I think Brando did an excellent job in Reflections in a Golden Eye, but I can't help wondering what it would've been with Monty.
I want you to know did I spent a whole morning listening to so many of your programs. I really enjoyed them thank you so much for the information delivered so well❤
Excellent documentary concise & informative, good use of pictures. At his accident scene Elizabeth Taylor probably saved his life getting that broken tooth out of his throat & kept the prying paparazzi at bay.
Monty's on TCM right now in The young lions which is one of my favorites. It's funny because I posted about him in this thread 2 hours ago and he's on TV right now lol.
To be honest, I thought he died in his 60s but 45 is still too young especially for an actor that was beloved and had good looks. It would be nice if you were to do a video on Brittany Murphy, Phil Hartman, Michael Clarke Duncan, Michelle Thomas (Family Matters), and Dana Hill who all died too soon.
From Here To Eternity. His greatest performance. Sensational film.
He was great. Misfits, and A Place in The Sun, were great movies. I guess everything he did was good.
@@ivangranger8494 Bottom of the Monty ladder would have to be The Defector!

Suddenly Last Summer was a strange movie. Elizabeth was perfection.
LOVED HIS WORK!!! HE HAD BEAUTIFUL EYES!!! 👀💝👀💝👀💝
He was gorgeous in A Place in the Sun. Just gorgeous.❤
Spencer Tracy called him the greatest actors of his generation that's high praise
Sadly Montgomery Clift and Spencer Tracy legends during the Golden Era of Hollywood died shy of a year of each other with Clift in 1966 and Tracy in 1967 at age 67.
So incredibly handsome even after his accident and extremely talented .
Rest in Peace Mr Montgomery Clift 🙏
Loved 'ADay in the Sun'! Always thought he was great ❤ Thanks for highlighting him
Turner Classic was playing his films yesterday. He and Liz Taylor were always great together. Thank you and have a great day.
Thanks for his story. I havbe heard of him and maybe a film or so. He died so young at 45, and had so much to give us.

I'm a huge fan of this guy, he's in a bunch of really great old movies. He always seems so tortured in the roles he plays.
Kind of in the vein of another great, James Dean
Yes I always mixed him up with James Dean. I actually think he was the better actor
Wow! So young to pass.🙁
I've never seen pictures when he was younger, but I do remember him . Thanks for sharing and telling is about his life.
Great video as usual.. i was a huge fan as a kid. Kind of a forgotten legend.. Unlike Brando and Dean..
Glad you enjoyed it!
He’s buried in the Quaker Cemetery in Prospect Park, Park Slope, Brooklyn. It was only a few blocks from my HS. I used to visit him occasionally.
A Place in the Sun and Suddenly Last Summer were my 2 favorite films of Clift’s. He portrayed angst more effectively than any actor of his era. I always wondered what his life and career would have become if he hadn’t had that car accident. He likely would have gone on to win an academy award.

I sure liked him. And I liked Liz. He seemed so sensitive to me, and I can see why a brilliant person like Liz would see so much value in him.
I liked his movies. Another passed so young!! You have great videos Steve!
I loved him in "A Place in the Sun" and "The Heiress".
Definitely agree about him in A Place In The Sun. Just saw The Heiress for the first time ever, about ten years ago. He was fine, but his character was a bum. Not my favorite role of his.
Just saw the Misfits...he was awesome in his role..
A true classic
"The Misfits" is still his best film performance, ever
I agree. Pretty much the entire cast's best performances ever, IMHO. Saw it for the first time on T.V. when I was a young teen. I was riveted.
From Here To Eternity and A Place In The Sun are classic films featuring Clift at his peak
Just watched him in The Big Lift and I Confess. What a talented actor. I wish we had him longer, but I’m grateful for what he accomplished.
“ I Confess “ was one of his best
A superb actor.
My favorite Clift films are The Heiress, A Place in the Sun, and Red River.
"Red River". Also one of John Wayne's best.
Great acting chemistry between the two despite the fact they loathed each other personally.
Excellent narrative. Learned a lot! Love the 'old time ' stuff. Thank You, Steve.👍💓🤗✌️
Glad you enjoyed it!
The heiress was fantastic he played an amazing part 💞💕
Thank you for this sad but interesting summary of the life of a great actor. ❤❤
Monty was a sensitive actor and man what a treasure❤
I found him perfect along with his equally well cast fellow actors in "Suddenly, Last Summer." I loved "Raintree County" but "Suddenly ..." is my top pick.

Thanks Robert.
Thank you, Steve. A place in the sun gets my vote, the accident seems to have ruined his life.
The Heiress.
Thanks for the video.

My favorite actor. Very sad what happened to him with the car crash. Elizabeth taylor. What a woman
A woman who didn’t attend her best friend’s funeral and couldn’t keep a marriage going.
A Place in the Sun. What a great movie ❤ He was never the same after the accident. So very sad. RIP
Although Montgomery Clift didn't care for the screenplay, I really like The Heiress!
One of my favorites!
I knew who he was and that he'd had a sad life but, I haven't seen much of his work. 😢
RIP 🙏 Monty.

My favorite film of Montgomery Cliff was "A Place In The Sun."
I loved him and Liz Taylor In Suddenly Last Summer. Albeit I loved Liz’s scream 😱 more than Clift’s performance , which was great.
Even after car crash MC could act with those expressive eyes Wonderful in Judgement at Nuremberg rip😢
I want you to know did I spent a whole morning listening to so many of your programs. I really enjoyed them thank you so much for the information delivered so well❤
You are so kind.
It's a miracle he made it to 45, his serious car accident almost took his life in 1957.
He was a great actor. And gorgeous.I didnt know he passed away at just 45.Way too young.
Very nicely done. You have a very unique gift to be able to distill Monty's life in a very short video.
Thank you very much!
Bello bello bello...da farti rimanere senza fiato. R.I.P
Montgomery Clift should have WON every ACADEMY AWARD HE WAS NOMINATED FOR‼️😲😵🤨😐😑
Excellent documentary concise & informative, good use of pictures. At his accident scene Elizabeth Taylor probably saved his life getting that broken tooth out of his throat & kept the prying paparazzi at bay.
So Elizabeth Taylor best friend of Monty didn't attend his funeral and sent flowers..Wow.
When you measure “Hollywood friends” it’s like 1 tenth of 1 percent compared to a normal friendship.
She dumped seven husbands so isn’t the greatest at relationships.
Marilyn Monroe was quoted as saying Montgomery Clift was the only person in Hollywood that was in worse shape than she was.
toss up between Suddenly last summer & Young Lions - German uniforms always carry a film.
Monty's on TCM right now in The young lions which is one of my favorites. It's funny because
I posted about him in this thread 2 hours ago and he's on TV right now lol.
If I remember correctly I believe my mother had a crush on Monty. Although she also had a thing for Robert Goulet.
That Bastard Goulet.
Wish i was born in there days instead of the era i was born theres something magical about there era
Wouldn’t it be great if Monty had a part in ‘Mutiny on the Bounty’ alongside Marlon Brando !
The Clash song, The Right Profile is about him.
“Only the good die young” as the saying goes!!
Suddenly last summer
To be honest, I thought he died in his 60s but 45 is still too young especially for an actor that was beloved and had good looks. It would be nice if you were to do a video on Brittany Murphy, Phil Hartman, Michael Clarke Duncan, Michelle Thomas (Family Matters), and Dana Hill who all died too soon.
What about standing up FOR the Duke against John Ford in "They Were Expendable"? 🤓😎✌🏼
The Heiress, From Here To Eternity. The search.
Have you done a story on Eric Fleming who also died young?
When I see photographs of MC I always think that he must be an ancestor of Tom Cruise.
From here to Eternity.
That was a interesting episode, as they all are. But i just like the factual aspects of the video. I dont like movies, especially old ones.
I watched his movie with Elizabeth Taylor
🙏🙏
He was very nasty to Olivia DeHaviland while filming 'The Heiress'. She never forgave him
"From Hear to Eternity..."
I hear you.
No kids?
Homosexual.
No kids..
Look at the guy at 1:16 in the front row next to the lady, looks like James Deen. Is that a Cell Phone he is talking in?
No…..his classic bored look!!
He was a tortured mam had so many demons even more so after his car crash he was a good actor tho
No mention of Eleanor.
Yes she was married to his brother.
@@TheLifeandSadEnding Thanks!
@@ModeltnickEleanor who?
@@KevinMiller-xn5vu Eleanor Clift; well known journalist.
The plastic surgery following the accident resulted in Clift appearing awkward bf the camera
He definitely was a homosexual. He was the "companion" to Jack Larsen (Jimmy Olsen on the 50's Superman series) for many years.
Can we do black actors as well. Just sayin.....................
I have done Gary Coleman, Cleavon Little and Gregory Hines.
The misfits for me
Over sensitive fellow
Dont know why he took up acting!
