I was born and raised in South Carolina and have lived here all of my life. This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. I’m a southerner and it just speaks to my soul!
Living in Nashville I have seen many of the artists you have reacted to. Once at a concert in July, Alabama passed a hat and told people to put in a song . They would draw from the hat and perform it. Christmas in Dixie was drawn! They had to think on the key for a second then performed this classic in the heat of summer!
I am an old Alabama girl born and raised. I was lucky enough to see these guys sing before they became famous. They would play in a bar about 50 miles north of where I lived which was about 40 miles south of where they are from. My friends and I would drive up to see them when we were barely legal to get in the doors. Dixie is the southern states but the state of Alabama is called the Heart of Dixie.
The band Alabama lives in Fort Payne about 1.5 hours away from me. When you drive into Fort Payne it is all about the band Alabama. We love our state and our band !
As others have commented, Dixie is the Southern states. Alabama’s state nickname is the Heart of Dixie. I’m from Bama and grew up listening to Alabama. You should check out their song “My Home’s in Alabama.” Randy Owen, the lead singer, was a major heartthrob in the 80’s. 😍
Just discovered your channel and I'm really enjoying it. Born and raised in Texas and this is definitely one of my favorite Christmas songs. Love the way it makes me feel. Glad you liked it too. 😀
This is such a wonderful song. Of course, I don't think Alabama ever recorded a bad song. You're right...Dixie is the whole South. Thank you so much for posting this lovely song.
Hey man I just found ur channel today and subscribed immediately. I’m from Alabama and of course I loved ur reaction to this song. Merry Christmas brother. Roll Tide!!!!
I can't help associating ALABAMA with my family life, as I raised my children, and then a Grand child! We had ALABAMA always on the CD player, was always on the radio, always CD in the car, always on the jukebox at Waffle House ( a Southern tradition!! )....any road trip anywhere, a short trip to Little League practice, a family camp out....we sang along as a FAMILY!! One of our favorites "Roll On 18 Wheeler" !!
You had this absolutely correct. Dixie is just the collective term used to describe all the southern states. Those of us who are from a southern state are extremely proud to be from Dixie even though there are many in northern states who think if you are from Dixie your IQ has to about the same number as your shoe size. Has nothing to do with the south but a beautiful Christmas song is Memory of an Old Christmas Card by Jim Reeves.
The states' and towns' names are nice but the line it's snowing in the pines" just gets me every time. North Carolina has a long leaf pine tree, and I have so many memories of walking through rows of pine trees with snow on the ground and snow falling onto those long green pine needles. Takes me back to picking out the family Christmas tree with my Dad :-) Thanks for reacting to and appreciating a great song.
I'm from Delaware, USA.. and have to say.. this is one of my top 5 Christmas songs ever... It's just beautiful..Short and sweet and just says it all to me about Christmas. Love Alabama and have loved this song forever. You did get it right.. Dixie is our southern states.. and I love them
This became a new classic as soon as it was released in 1985. Alabama alone changed country forever. They added more of a rock sound with more of a drumbeat and heavier electric guitar while still staying true to traditional country. Check out If You’re Gonna Play in Texas, My Home’s in Alabama, Old Flame as well. Randy Owen is the lead singer with the amazing voice and two of the others are his cousins. They are from Fort Payne Alabama as they mention at the end of the song. And Dixie is mainly the southeastern US, south of the Mason Dixon line and from Texas eastward to Florida. Great review! Keep the country coming! I’m here at home in Mississippi USA! Where are you?
Hi love all your reactions as far as Home Free love to see you so MY CHURCH. ONE MAN BAND. HUNTER HAYES MELODY TO LAUGH ALL ABOUT THAT BASE AND BUTTES MELODY so many to choose have fun
The state Alabama is the Heart of Dixie. The band Alabama dominated country music during the 80's and early 90's. One song you'd really enjoy by them is Dixieland Delight.
I grew up near Fort Payne (and now live back there on the mountain). I was living in Missouri at the time this song came out and yes it did give me a smile the first time I heard them say "From Fort Payne Alabama".
I was born in Ohio in the North..moved to both Carolina's for 25 years.. now I'm back Ohio...I feel the same way in the North that I did in the South..this song is about Peace no matter where you are..I think Alabama was mentioning Northern states like NY , Chicago, Motown which is Detroit..and you cant go any farther west than California..so that everyone feels the Peace ..it's a beautiful song and they are one of the best country groups from all time..you should listen to their song Angels among us
Your sentiment rings true i was born abd raised about half an hour away from Charlotte North Carolina and every time that part comes up i feel like they are personally telling me Merry Christmas
Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon surveyed the 233 mile Mason-Dixon line in 1763-1767 to settle a dispute between the Penns of Pennsylvania and the Calvert Family of Maryland. They had large land grants from the Crown and a dispute over overlapping boundaries had erupted into open warfare. Over time the area South of this line came to be called Dixie. Basically today it's everything South of that line and the-Ohio River.
Dixieland, is a genre of music. Look u examples of it on youtube. This song came out in the very early 1980's back when music videos were not so prevelant.
Thank you so much that’s we’re I’m from Alabama, I now live in Indiana but I will be spending Christmas this year in Alabama with my family thanks for that reaction.
Classic song- from TN here and very proud of this song. Yes, Dixie is just southern states. Great reactions, I’m enjoying watching your country music journey. ✌️😊
Definitely one of my favorites...just wish it was longer. I'm from Texas but lived in Atlanta Georgia for a while, and yes....it did make me feel proud. I'm glad you enjoyed it. The song does bring the whole USA together and make every place feel special. Alabama is a beautiful state with lots of history. You might enjoy researching it. Thank you for sharing your reaction with us. Sending you love and Christmas wishes from Texas.
Yeah, Dixie is considered the deep south, states like Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee and Mississippi. The last town they mentioned is the outlier, as the other towns are all the largest cities in those states. Fort Payne, Alabama is where they are from, it was a population of around 13k, back when this song came out, I was one of those 13k. I know/knew all 4 members of the group, did IT work for all of them. Three of them were/are really nice guys, the lead singer though, he let success go to his head, I think.
Are you still interested in learning some cool things about the state of Alabama, particularly its music? Check out the documentary Muscle Shoals (2013). It's about my hometown and all the stunning music history that took place there.
Loved your reaction as always! Here's a live version of Alabama with Home Free singing Christmas in Dixie! It's fantastic as you might expect & the audio & video are perfect too!🎄 ua-cam.com/video/Kdl-i-6Q0Hw/v-deo.html
There is another, generally little known song, that this song was believed to have copied the melody from, whether intentionally or not. It is "On The Inside", by Lynne Hamilton, the theme song from the long running Australian TV show "Prisoner: (Cellblock H)", or "Prisoner" in the United States. "On The Inside (Prisoner Cellblock H), Lynne Hamilton, 1979 ua-cam.com/video/NM0XXMQqhXM/v-deo.html This is a beautiful song, and very different lyrics to the Christmas In Dixie song. But the tune is similar.
Good reaction, I am so glad you enjoyed it. Alabama joined Home Free to cover this, please check it out too (even if you don't do a reaction) I think you will love it.
You got it correct the states that ceded to form the confederacy Are Dixie . btw my family left Bristol England in 1639 to become colonists in Virginia
This is one of my all time favorite Christmas songs. If you're interested in other less traditional country Christmas songs, try Catfish Christmas and All I want for Christmas is a real Good Tan. Christmas Cookies and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer are some other good ones. There's also Thomas Rhett "Christmas in the Country.
This song could be re-written for Great Britain, and performed by a British country group, if you have them over there. There's nothing stopping that from happening.
A light hearted Christmas song reaction would be Granmaw got ran over by a reindeer by Elmo and Patsy. You are correct sir Dixie is the southern part of the United States 🇺🇸
You're essentially correct. There is an actual surveyed Mason-Dixon line that predates the founding of the United States when we were still British colonies, and historically demarcated the north from the south. Its roots however, are 100 years older than that, and has roots in land grants by King Charles I & King Charles ll I'm not sure the explanatory Wikipedia link will go through, so I won't post it here. But you can look it up yourself in ten seconds.
I would love to see you react to Christmas Cookies by George Strait. If I’m not mistaken he wrote this song. Earlier this month he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary
The video is in my head when they sing this . wish you could see it nut not being a southerner from the usa im not sure you see the same video i do . so much the pity you poor soul.
I really am enjoying your channel. Alabama Christmas (the album from which this was taken) has been for many years a must listen to during the holidays. It feels like home to me (I'm from Mississippi, currently living in Texas for a very long time). It would be a shame for you to spend this Christmas Season without listening to one of America's national treasures. He's not country, though he's a Texas Boy born and raised, but he is beyond Genre. He's done Classical to Gospel to Pop and Contemporary Christian. He's classically trained and a voice like an angel. The intro I like to give for people to hear David Phelps is "O Holy Night" - It's beyond comprehension. I can't wait to see your face. This will open up a new rabbit hole you'll want to go down. Enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/ElJ0fiD0lkc/v-deo.html
Alabama born and bred…. We are the “heart of Dixie” and fort Payne is right up the road from me.
Fort Payne, Alabama is where the group is from.
I was born and raised in South Carolina and have lived here all of my life. This is one of my favorite Christmas songs. I’m a southerner and it just speaks to my soul!
Thistle hair the Christmas bear was an adorable christmas song from Alabama. Lady down on love is so sad though.
I am in Memphis Tennessee and Christmas in Dixie is truly special.

When they say Jackson, Mississippi I get teary eyed that is where I was born and then raised near Memphis ❤

Your right Dixie is the south in the US. A beautiful song indeed. (Tennessee)
I’m in Alabama, and make it to Ft. Payne Alabama every year to the Alabama museum there.
Dixie is a general term for the states south of the Mason-Dixon line, the south eastern states.
In Atlanta, GA... There's peace on earth tonight!
