A few sound reasonable but most are just totally absurd and sound made up
Nope, but I have heard of some of these being confused by people. I even remember when I was introduced to America I was asked who was singing without being allowed to see the album. It sounded like Neil, but... not quite. So if you don't know the band or singer, you can be confused.

Not necessary 'nothing'. If you hear a song for the first time or a song you didn't hear that much, I can imagine you can get confused by a different song/band that sound familiar.
It's not really hard with time and age. I admit that, while I grew up in the 90s, I did used to think Boyz 2 Men sang "I Swear" for the longest time. I also thought "Warrior" was a solo song for Smyth. It happens. Memory gets fuzzy after 30 lol.
Yea not that hard man. Especially when a song that sounds similar to another band was a one hit wonder. I have never heard the band name Hollies, and I have no idea who the second example are

Kashmir, by Led Zeppelin, NOT Britney Spears. 🙄The examples given may not be that ridiculous but, come on, are people really confusing singers with other singers who have completely different voices? Some of the disco singers sounded similar, but most other singers didn't, and neither did most of the bands. Meredith Brooks did sound like Alanis Morrisette, but without the fingernails on a chalkboard sound. No one sounds like Pat Benatar, and Quiet Riot doesn't sound like anyone other than Slade, who they covered on 2 of their 3 biggest hits. This reminds me of the guy on UA-cam who swore Creep by Stone Temple Pilots was Half The Man I Used To Be by Nirvana. I'm fairly sure someone else here posted it with that title, but saying it was Alice in Chains.
@@ErickC It very well could be. It would really help to be on the same drugs Scott Weiland was to figure it out. The first time I saw them was on TV, maybe on the David Letterman show, and I didn't know who they were but he acted like a monkey on crack. I didn't realize until later how accurate that description was. That's actually the only one that would get me but I'm also not a big cure fan. Pretty much any of these are understandable if the listener really doesn't listen to that kind of music anyway
This one made no sense, but what really blew my mind…was watching a vocal analysis of Come On Eileen, and the analyst said “I’m picking up Cure vibes” about Kevin Rowland’s vocal. I never once made that connection, but she was right and now I can’t unhear it 🤯
The one thing that blows my mind about any of these songs, is "Father & Son" by Cat Stevens. At the time he wrote that, he was, at the very most, 22 years old.
It's true, I know who sang "I Swear", it was John Michael Montgomery. Then that boyband covered it and he got forgotten which is a crying shame. His was beautiful and better.
All 4 One released their version of “I Swear” first by a few weeks. John Michael Montgomery’s version went to the top on Country charts though. Crazy thing is All 4 One and John released a duet version of that song a few years ago.
I prefer John Michael Montgomery's version. I still have no idea why this was a thing. Remember Con Air had the song How Do I Live - sung by Leanne Rimes and Trisha Yearwood. As much as I liked LR, I liked Trisha's version better. To this day, that's the version that gives me goosebumps! 😊
@beyondwisdom5880 I Swear was JMMs song. He released it in 93. All 4 One was in 94...and they originally didnt even want to cover it. Fun fact...in June of 95, they did I Can Love you like that...another song of jmms that he released in feb 95 .
Fun fact. Badfinger provided most of the soundtrack of 1969's The Magic Christian starring Ringo Starr and Peter Sellers. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it!
John Fogerty. Born and raised in California, but sues someone for sounding too much like him when pretending to be Southern. Then his label sued him for the SAME thing, because he sounded too much like the lead singer of CCR.
Come and get it was originally written by Paul McCartney during the Abbey Road sessions, and later gave it to Badfinger because they were signed to Apple at the time. Paul finally recorded the song in 2015 when the Hollywood Vampires (Alice Cooper, Johnny Depp &Joe Perry) asked him to act as guest vocalist on the song.
I remember hearing an interview with Neil saying his own father called him up to congratulate him o his latest hit. Neil was confused as the album hadn't come out yet and inquired what the heck his Dad was talking about.
I don't know if anyone remembers that one-hit wonder from the late 80s, Regina, with the song "Baby Love". I honestly thought that was Madonna at first.
That's because it was co-written by Steve Bray, who was Madonna's main collaborator in the mid-80s until he got pissed at how Shep Pettibone reworked "Express Yourself" and vowed never to work with her again.
Why would anyone think that? During Weird Al's main production period, I don't think anyone else was doing parodies. I have a couple of 45s, but I'm not sure they were done while Weird Al was doing his big records. I think they were probably just before him.
@@bite-sizedshorts9635 Bob Rivers was doing his Twisted Tunes and John Mammoser also did a few songs found only on the Internet like _Heart Attack #5._ During the era of Limewire, their songs were mistakenly thought to be by Weird Al Yankovic.
that seems a big stretch, tho. Someone who listens to no music at all would not be able to mix up one artist with another. They would simply not have a clue who performs any given song.
with some channels like this i kind of hate it when they tell people to enable all notifications since if you do then just a few channels will drown out all your other subscriptions, especially since some of these channels also post meaningless community posts, polls, etc. just to make their account more active to improve their standing in the algorithm.
I loved this one, some I knew some I had no idea. It’s nice to take some looks back into musical history. My love started with the Beatles and the English bands and the love is still growing
😮 Thats Aerosmiths signature song. I remember seeing them in concert and they lowered Steven Tyler from the ceiling with a baby grand for the start of the song. It was awe inspiring and the greatest thing I’d ever seen at a live concert before.
There was a thread on the Electrical Audio forums called "best x song written by y" and I like to call it the best Aerosmith song written by Led Zeppelin (for the rubes out there, I fully understand the song wasn't *actually* written by Led Zeppelin, that's the joke and the point). And, to be fair the only time Aerosmith is worth listening to is when they sound like a discount Led Zeppelin.
Really???!!! You forgot one of the biggest ones. *" Drift Away"* by Dobie Gray. Not, The Doobie Brothers. Also, almost any song by the band, "Fastway", being mistaken for the *Bon Scott* era of AC/DC
Fun fact: Quiet Riot lead vocalist Kevin Dubrow was dead set against recording "Cum On Feel the Noise" because he wanted the band to write all the songs on their album, and he wasn't a big fan the band Slade. They recorded it due to the label's insistence. The band had a plan to play badly, so the label wouldn't release the song. Problem was each member recorded their part expecting someone else to deliberately mess up their part, and nobody messed up.
As soon as the name Donna Summer was mentioned I was up and singing 'Hot Stuff' out loud to myself. I am a middle aged man. And it is 1:30am. Thank You youtube. lol
Badfinger was the first group that Apple Records (aka Apple Corps / The Beatles) signed to the label. Paul McCartney wrote one of Badfinger's hits, 'Come And Get It'. Badfinger deserves a biopic, because their incredibly sad story has every trope of the "rags to riches" rock band story you've seen before all wrapped up together.
I hope "Rescue Me" is on here for Aretha Franklin. The woman who originally sanged it was Fontella Bass. Some people call it the best song Aretha never sanged.
I heard it announced on the radio, so there's no way I'd ever make that mistake. Also, it was on at least one of those K-Tel or Ronco hits collections advertised relentlessly on TV years ago. Anyone alive back then should know it was Fontella Bass.
8:11 Now I could see how people would think that "On The Dark Side" was a Bruce Springsteen song, because bruce and John do sound somewhat similar to each other
@@TanyaVeverka I'm sure you're not the only one who had thought that Bruce Springsteen performed that song, considering how similar John Cafferty sounded when he performed it
Some of these I can only understand getting confused if you've never heard the song before and your friend tells you the name of a song and who (doesn't) sings it. Then you actually listen to it and you immediately know you have a bad friend because it doesn't even sound remotely close to who he told you it was.
I was fully expecting that to be on the list, as well. I actually put down the 'fab four' as the singers, when I recorded it off the airwaves and onto cassette. (Yes, I later corrected that mistake.)
People also think that the 90s rock cover of "Cat's In The Cradle" is by Guns N' Roses when it was actually Ugly Kid Joe. And yeah, Slade could easily be attributed as to why people think that Quiet Riot's cover of "Cum On Feel The Noize" is by Twisted Sister, because Dee Snider actually cited Slade as an influence when writing Twisted Sister's signature song "We're Not Gonna Take It". And also, younger people in Britain would probably think that the 1969 cover of Etta James' "I'd Rather Go Blind" that charted in the Top 20 is by Fleetwood Mac when it was actually by Chicken Shack, all because Christine McVie (or Christine Perfect as she was known then) sang lead vocals on that track. And also some people would think that it's a Christine solo track because it was added to Christine's first solo album she did after she left Chicken Shack and before joining Fleetwood Mac.
"Sledgehammer" - Peter Gabriel (not Steve Winwood) "The Great Commandment" - Camouflage (not Depeche Mode) "A Good Heart" - Feargal Sharkey (not Rod Stewart) "It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" - Them (not Rolling Stones) "Remember Me" - Blue Boy (not Moby) "Rescue Me" - Bell, Book and Candle (not Cranberries) "Walk on the Wild Side" - Lou Reed (not Bob Dylan) "Grace Kelly" - Mika (not Freddie Mercury) "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" - The Korgis (not Al Stewart) "Two of Hearts" - Stacey Q - (not Madonna) "Somewhere Only We Know" - Keane (not Coldplay) "Big Girls Don't Cry" - Fergie (not Kelly Clarkson) "Price Tag" - Jessie J (not Katy Perry) "Miss Me More" - Kelsea Ballerini (not Taylor Swift) "Somebody That I Used to Know" - Gotye (not Sting) "Riptide" - Vance Joy (not The Lumineers) "Youngblood" - 5 Seconds of Summer (not Jonas Brothers) "Kings and Queens" - Ava Max (not Sia) "My Favourite Game" - The Cardigans (not No Doubt) "Tom Sawyer" - Rush (not Yes) "Bury a Friend" - Billie Eilish (not Lana del Rey) "I Wanna Love You Forever" - Jessica Simpson (not Britney Spears)
I watch lists like this and I am always so baffled how people dont know this stuff but then again, I have to remember that not everyone views music like it's oxygen for them and that I spent the majority of my teenage years grounded so I submerged myself into knowing everything I could about music. I guess, in an odd way, Ibhave my Mom to thank for always grounding me for the stupidest stuff because it gave me a 15 year career as a manager of record stores. Those were the best 15 years.
You forgot "Don't Pull Your Love Out On Me Baby" by Hamilton, Joe Frank & Reynolds. It has been mistaken for an Elvis song. This may be partly due to song being written with Elvis in mind, though Elvis never actually covered it.
But no-one's ever heard of them. I mean, the band/singers here are well known and thousands of people mix them up not just a handful of hillbillies listening to a local band.
@@Derry_Aire it was a popular song even if the band was a largely a one hit wonder. You would have heated of them back in the 70s, even if the band isn’t as well known today.

I believe the correct spelling is "Hrallf Thr Mran I Yerss to Breee."
On the song Plush, he sounds a bit like the band Rare Earth did over 50 years ago, way before he was born.I don't think anyone ever got the 2 bands mixed up like a lot of them on this list.
It blew my mind how a lot of them were mistaken in the first place 😂
Yes!!!
Who thought Escape was Jimmy Buffett? Not a single person in history, not now, not then, thought Escape was Jimmy Buffett.
I didn't remember who sang it, but I sure has sh*t knew it wasn't Buffett.
90’s child here, my dad was a huge Buffett fan, I knew it was Rupert Holmes since I can remember, huge difference in voices and music
Yeah, some of these are believable, but their No. 1 choice here is next to impossible.
@@MrLayton1990 The instrumental style, the lyrical writing style, the subject, and the complexity of the song are not even close to Buffet. Not to mention the voice is no where close to his.
@@beaudure01 It's literally impossible to think Jimmy sang that.
#3. I was waiting for Rebecca to screw up the pronunciation of her name. Patti Smyth (long "I") is the lead singer of Scandal. Patti Smith (short "I") is the legendary Godmother of Punk.
Who the hell thought Gloria Gaynor was Donna Summers
Who is honestly going to think "I melt with you" was written by The Cure?
That's actually the only one that would get me but I'm also not a big cure fan. Pretty much any of these are understandable if the listener really doesn't listen to that kind of music anyway
@@donericdisante True, true
That's the one that made me go WHO THE HELL gets that one mixed up??? It doesn't sound even a teeny bit like The Cure. Not remotely.
This one made no sense, but what really blew my mind…was watching a vocal analysis of Come On Eileen, and the analyst said “I’m picking up Cure vibes” about Kevin Rowland’s vocal. I never once made that connection, but she was right and now I can’t unhear it 🤯
Bad English? Modern English... Or something like that.
How is Rockwell - Somebody’s Watching Me not on this list?
Probably because Michael Jackson sings part of the chorus. I'm assuming that's the person you know people confuse the song for.
The one thing that blows my mind about any of these songs, is "Father & Son" by Cat Stevens. At the time he wrote that, he was, at the very most, 22 years old.
I'll be the first to say I've never heard anyone, ANYONE, confuse Headstrong by Trapt for Papa Roach. This entry made me give an audible "WHAT?!"
Same here. I knew it was a Trapt track the first time I heard it.
It's true, I know who sang "I Swear", it was John Michael Montgomery. Then that boyband covered it and he got forgotten which is a crying shame. His was beautiful and better.
I remember being so angry that a redneck country singer had the audacity to cover I Swear so soon. Whoops! Sorry JMM.
All 4 One released their version of “I Swear” first by a few weeks. John Michael Montgomery’s version went to the top on Country charts though. Crazy thing is All 4 One and John released a duet version of that song a few years ago.
@@beyondwisdom5880 their video came out after. That's all I know their version by and I still don't like it.
Yes, good movie and with other noted stars like Raquel Welch, John Cleese, Richard Attenborough, and so on... 😊
The song Black Betty goes back well over a hundred years ago. I think one of the earliest renditions was by folk singer Lead Belly.
it goes further back than Lead Belly
John Fogerty.
Born and raised in California, but sues someone for sounding too much like him when pretending to be Southern.
Then his label sued him for the SAME thing, because he sounded too much like the lead singer of CCR.
But….
@gaetagirl yeah.. exactly.. he sounded like himself.
"Come and Get It" by Badfinger, I believe sounds more like, and is confused more for a Beatles tune than "No Matter What."
And that was written by Paul McCartney, so I can see why some might be confused.
@@caphowdy666 The McCartney original is out on the Abbey Road box set. Badfinger didn't change a note.
I remember hearing an interview with Neil saying his own father called him up to congratulate him o his latest hit. Neil was confused as the album hadn't come out yet and inquired what the heck his Dad was talking about.
Did anyone else yell "Sm-EYE-th" at the screen? 🤣
Yessssss
Yeah!!
It's Patty Smythe, NOT Patti Smith!
TWO COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PEOPLE! 🙄
If you did not know come on feel the noise was Was not twisted sister you don't know music
Eddie And The Cruisers "On The Dark Side" is a '80's nostalgia bomb.
“Bitch” was NEVER associated with Alanis….
I've never heard of any of these songs being confused for someone else
“Oh Sheila” by Ready For the World NOT Prince should definitely be on this list.
I usually enjoy your lists, but I knew the correct artist for every song that I recognised 💯
You could make a list of parody songs that were thought to be by Weird Al Yankovic, but are not.
I'd watch that
Why would anyone think that? During Weird Al's main production period, I don't think anyone else was doing parodies. I have a couple of 45s, but I'm not sure they were done while Weird Al was doing his big records. I think they were probably just before him.
@@bite-sizedshorts9635 Bob Rivers was doing his Twisted Tunes and John Mammoser also did a few songs found only on the Internet like _Heart Attack #5._ During the era of Limewire, their songs were mistakenly thought to be by Weird Al Yankovic.
Back when I was doing downloads from Kazaa, pretty much anything humorous was attributed to Weird Al even when it was clearly a female singing.
Fans: This song is awesome.
Donna Summer: Not again!
As a Nu-Metal head, I am officially insulted that ANYONE would confuse Trapt with Papa Roach. Open your minds just a little, people...
I fuckin hated Nu Metal then, and I hate Nu Metal now. But, c’mon, I knew that was Trapt. I agree with you that there’s a clear distinction.
Can I admit I never heard of either song, either group, or Nu-Metal? I recognized everything else.

Ready For The World with “Oh Sheila” being mistaken for Prince…
I mean, until you said it I thought it was a Prince song. Or the Artist formerly know as Prince, RIP. :(
“Dancin’ in the Moonlight” by King Harvest is commonly thought to be a Van Morrison song.
people are probably confusing it with Into the Mystic
You need to re-title your video: “Songs that people who don’t listen to music think are performed by other people”
that seems a big stretch, tho. Someone who listens to no music at all would not be able to mix up one artist with another. They would simply not have a clue who performs any given song.
Nobody thought these songs were by someone else. This is absurd if you know music
What I love about watchmojo is that I don't need to ring the of notifications as they upload multiple times everyday.
with some channels like this i kind of hate it when they tell people to enable all notifications since if you do then just a few channels will drown out all your other subscriptions, especially since some of these channels also post meaningless community posts, polls, etc. just to make their account more active to improve their standing in the algorithm.
This list was compiled by people who don't know music and are easily confused.
I loved this one, some I knew some I had no idea. It’s nice to take some looks back into musical history. My love started with the Beatles and the English bands and the love is still growing
Ngl, I thought "Dream On" was by Led Zeppelin for about 10 years before finding out it was by Aerosmith, probably around 2000.
Hm, sounds like I need to check out Fastway.
The Mandela Effect is in full swing here. I always thought that Alanis Morrisette was behind Bitch, only to be corrected.
I thought alanis morrisette was the name of a band!
No of course not
Who the fuck thought headstrong wasn't by Trapt.
This list sucks
The same thing happened to me, but with Sheryl Crow. That's not a joke.
Thanks for this extremely interesting fun fact!
RIP Kevin 😭
That's one I'd thought of as well.
Sang, or sung, NOT SANGED. WTF, that's not even a word ffs!
I heard it announced on the radio, so there's no way I'd ever make that mistake. Also, it was on at least one of those K-Tel or Ronco hits collections advertised relentlessly on TV years ago. Anyone alive back then should know it was Fontella Bass.
Badfinger actually recorded a song by Paul McCartney, and participated in the Bangladesh concert with George - and were signed by Apple Records

Now I could see how people would think that "On The Dark Side" was a Bruce Springsteen song, because bruce and John do sound somewhat similar to each other
I knew several people that swore it was Mike & the Mechanics singing the entire Eddie And The Cruisers soundtrack.
@malcolmr3 say what?????
How much Crack were they smoking
@malcolmr3 How?, they don't even sound remotely alike
That's really the only one I had wrong. I honestly thought that was Bruce!
Lies by The Knickerbockers, not The Beatles
Wow, I never heard that one. They were definitely trying to sound like The Beatles.
I was fully expecting that to be on the list, as well. I actually put down the 'fab four' as the singers, when I recorded it off the airwaves and onto cassette. (Yes, I later corrected that mistake.)
Wait, I thought Lies was by Paul Revere and the Raiders (another band that people confuse for the Beatles).
Meredith Brooks is awesome, blows Morrisette out of water.
Can't believe anyone gets any of these mixed up
Right? I have never heard of anyone confusing any of them before. Must be a really rare occurrence
Mojo resorting to click bait again
I must be a music-phile because I've never confused any of these songs. A lot of these feel like a stretch to me.
Most of these are due to record companies trying to find the next... This is why there are so many 1-hit wonders on the list.
One Bad Apple by Osmonds NOT the Jackson 5.
I wouldn't confuse the Osmonds. I saw them in the 60s when they were in a TV western called "The Travels of Jamie McPheeters." Look it up.
I don't understand how in this day and age there is any confusion about who the artist is.
Someone thinks Classic is by Michael Jackson. It is not. It is actually by MKTO.
that song sounds nothing at all like Michael Jackson
I was waiting for Oh Sheila to be clarified that it's not by Prince

I can’t take my eyes off of you - Frankie Valli not Frank Sinatra. Sinatra never actually sang it.
I never thought Frank sang that. While they share similar first names, they have different vocal registers. I suppose that doesn't mean that no ever mistook "Eyes" for a Sinatra number, tho.
