Most technical Aloo parantha ever 😁😁😁!!!
I was about to say the same 😂
If this is the aloo paratha typically made in India ....
@@altmosetz_01unlike what she said, in India nowadays, people are hesitant to eat Maida, so just like in the video people nowadays generally use all purpose wheat flour. In my family the filling is fried before filling it. The dough is definitely not measured using a ruler ,and rest is same
@@shiajinn2509 Wheat flour which is made of whole wheat grains is what is commonly used in Indian homes in daily food items such as Chappatti & Paratha .
Maida which is the ultra refined starchy white part of wheat grain without the bran is mostly used for food items that are crisp / crumbly such as Naan, Bhatura , Samosa.
Indians do not use Maida in regular food as its considered to be unhealthy compared to wheat flour
@@altmosetz_01 just like you said it, whole wheat is commonly used for Paratha. Aloo paratha is also a paratha but with stuffing 😋
Finally.. They are eating with hands 👏
Eating with hands has a scientific effect on your body! 🙏🏻
They were... pizza, burger...but I don't think any rice items though.
U think? U have brain? U sure? @us-du44fx4u
Spoon and fork pakadne ke liye bhi hands chahiye..🤣
These episode is like how to make an easy and quick indian breakfast make difficult and time consuming😂😂
😂😂😂😂
But she did well i would say
They are not making prantha for you.Audience need best methods and presentation😊
@@hiteshkundlas he forget that our mothers are used to make them all the time so they are practiced well thats why they are fast but for audience you will have to go slow so they can understand the recipe
Wheat flour rather than all purpose flour is the better and more common option for all kinds of parathas
I agree.. Maida is hard to digest..
N moreover it taste like naan not paratha
I laughed so hard when she took out the ruler 😂😂
rulers are fine, because they are trained culinary chefs. who are trained to be precise, for restaurant setting.
Not at all fine even if they are chef. In fact if they are chef, they should not be using any measurements..@@pruthvimeka3259
hahah yeah
The fact that they could roll it without any of the stuffing coming out ..hats off to them ! (and all the Indian moms as always)
As an Indian, it’s so nice to see ATK foraying into Indian cooking. Way to go ATK!
Yes it is, but what would be even better is if they had an Indian presenter in front of the camera... just saying...
@@DraytonHanna Maybe their Indian colleagues don't want to be in front of the camera. We have to respect that too.
Or maybe, they’re just starting to lose viewers :p
@@DizzyBusy Yeah, it makes no difference to me who presents a recipe as long as the recipe, presentation and techniques are good and honor the recipe's roots.
@@justjd911 By doing what?
One of my favourite Indian breakfast dishes.
I don't know about others but I have noticed whenever you cook parathas cook them over high heat . That makes it softer.
yup. The faster you cook parathas , the softer they come out.
Paratha is also popular in many other states of India traditionally not only in Punjab
us cia ta work..another color revolution
But its mainly a punjabi dish
@@valley-girl its eaten all over India , I am not sure if it really originated in Punjab
@@blackpanther0990so much jealousy is unhealthy! They’re eaten all over South East Asia !
@baldevsidhu7719 Why would i be jealous Sardars are much respected around but i have much doubt about aloo paratha origins in Punjab
I don't know why teachers make the topic so difficult. 😮
Meanwhile Indian Moms :
1. Potatoes (without peeling) in pressure cooker for 2 whistles. [No need to be gentle with these potatoes] and peel them after it. + Add whatever you want as per your preference.
2. Dough processer for obvious reasons.
3. Make two rotis and place mashed potatoes in middle.
4. Cook
Voilà! The dish is ready ❤
Sahi me Bhai meri mummy me ye video dekh Li to inko bohot gaali dengi pura din laga Diya 😂
Potatoes 🥔 cocking in pressure cooker 😳 then boil eggs or make chai also in pressure cooker 😂
I make aloo paratha myself but stuff it in one Dow ball, not between two roties, but everyone is free to choose hir/her own way to make it easy 🙏🏻
@@Inderbaum Pressure cooker is very good for saving cooking time and fuel, especially for hard vegetables, rice or lentils
@@Inderbaum Give it a try, mister. You are going to love it. 😃
My friend introduced me to Indian food years ago-- HEAVEN!! Sadly, my favorite restaurants are long gone...😢 And now my favorite cooking channel is making some Indian food? I'm so excited-- if anyone can teach me how not to screw it up, it's you guys! I can't believe I might get to have Indian food again! I hope you do other Indian fare as well! Take good care!😊
Please don’t follow these recipes. If somebody starts to measure everything and use electronics fpr everything, consider it a big red flag when it comes to indian cooking. I agree that not everybody cooks the same way, but there’s always a common practice. The common practice here is to use whole wheat flour. The dough is kneaded by hand, and no matter what, ot would always taste better with pickle, then with salad..
Better, just search for the indian cooks and their method of cooking. Without the exact measurements, it might be off a few times from perfect, but trust me, once you get the appropriation of the ingredients, it would taste a thousand times better than the way of cooking in this video.
No offence to anybody or any of the ways. It’s just my opinion being an indian and cooking for a few years now. Not meant to hurt or disrespect anybody. Thanks
Quick tips if you want a simple version with easily available ingredients:
1. Boil potatoes and prepare dough as instructed.
2. Mash the potatoes and add salt, paprika or pepper. Nothing else. This is how most Indians do it.
3. There is no need for precise mesaurements with ruler. Dust the dough ball in some flour. Roll to the size of your palm (it should be round).
4. Cover the potato ball with the dough and gently roll (gently or the dough will tear).
5.For beginners, the smaller the potato ball in relation to dough the better. If you used too much potato stuffing in relation to the dough, the dough may tear. If the tears are small, you can ignore it cook as usual.
6. Roll after covering the stuffing with the dough roll in the shape of a circle whose diameter is the distance between the tip of your middle finger and the base of your palm.
7. Cook on cast iron or non-stick pan. Season with BUTTER.

Never in a million years did I think, I will be watching this on America's Test Kitchen 😂😂
Aloo paratha is made using whole wheat flour. I have never heard anyone in India using all purpose flour or maida to make aloo paratha
In USA, Indian atta is not easily available
@@tushararaghavan9565 yes it is easily available
@@tushararaghavan9565Right 👍👍
We will get atta of different companies in , indian.. bengali or pakistani or malayali stores..
Almost all zomato restaurants do that
Erin did a great job here! of course, specific recipes can vary from even one house to the next, but this was still good!
- y'all are in Boston, surely there are plenty of Indian grocery stores where they sell Indian spicy chillies?
- ok, your friend's mom uses _maida_ and that's why you followed that here using AP flour, but the majority of _parathas_ are made with _atta_ (stone-ground whole wheat flour)
Kudos to Erin for pronouncing the hard ThA (ठा ) at the end of "paratha"!
This is how they steal - steal culture , cuisine , and later claim it as if they invented it
why kudos? Indians have to work had too for learning english. so why not expect the same from americans.
Socialite aunts of India would prefer to watch this video to learn making paratha even though they already knew it.
Beta apni mata ki baatein na kr... Idhr pitashree ko acha nhi lgaa😅
As an Indian, all I can say that it has been made absolutely Perfect ❤️... Superb.
This looks awesome. As a potato lover, I love seeing how other cultures use the spud.
I love this!!!! And yes as some commenters are saying there’s so much variations on alu parathas - every family has its own recipe. Lots of room to experiment (filling, spices, flour type) to find the one that you like the best.
I think almost all of the food we make at home has different varieties bcz ppl like different things so they add or substitute sth they like except some dishes that we cook at some auspicious occasion
Hardcore Punjabi here (pronounced Panj-aab not Pun-jaab btw). Generally very accurate but this recipe has south Indian twist as never ever known paratha served with onion tomatoes salsa thing. Coconut doesnt go into any Punjabi dishes. We serve paratha with tons of home made yoghurt, a tub of butter and lots of achar. Yum yum.
😂😂
English speakers will call panjab- like jam-jab. The correct way to tell them how to pronounce it Is Pun- jahb, not poon- jab.
Was thinking same. Have North and South Indian friends and my first thought at seeing the coconut was that's a South Indian thing. But I thought the kachumber was North Indian?
Adding a pinch of turmeric to those potatoes takes it to next level
This one time, I woke up, had four of these with a glass of buttermilk, and then I just dozed off and slept the whole day !
They replaced pickle with salad 😂
Punjabi’s use whole wheat flour instead of all purpose flour.
Majority of the Indian.
All Indians majorly
Yes
I suate my spices, ginger and garlic first in a couple of tablespoons ghee or oil for a couple of minutes, then add the potatoes plus a 1/4 tspn of turmeric, 1tsp of salt, cilantro and mix it all in the pan.. no raw spice taste and much better combining of flavors. As said, there are many ways of making aloo paratha, varying from region to region and every family seems to have their own favorite. Thanks TK for featuring a wonderful Indian staple. 👍
Love the way it is done so precisely over there..
we need a lot more indian dishes featured on this channel
I love aalu paratha... its the ultimate breakfast meal , or anytime should food.

Erin should ask her colleague if she's from the south west of India. This is distinctively like the ones my mom makes. They look wonderful!

Great job! It's one of the best Indian recipes I've seen from a Western channel in terms of being authentic and tasty.
. . . . . . .
P.S. However, the "True-Blue" "Punjabi Dhabas" along the expressways in North-India serve these with an extra "bowl" of ghee/butter - and they'd refill it as many times as you require. 😆

Thank you for sharing this indian dish recipe. The recipe is to the point.
Who needs non veg food when there are so many veg indian dishes❤
Stuffed parathas are generally enjoyed with Chutneys of sweet & spicy kind. The most famous two chutneys that go with stuffed parathas are Coriander-Mint Chutney, and Tamarind Sweet & Tangy Chutney.
A tomato-onion salad of this kind is not something that I have ever seen.
Very nice recipe. Even I didn't know making aloo paratha without onions. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!

This is so interesting. I married into an Indo-Caribbean family and it is interesting to see the variations in these dishes.

I don’t know why but I always find it so funny when ATK pulls out a ruler while cooking haha
I'm a pastry chef and if I can't find my ruler, I'm paralyzed
@@Sweetthang9 Not sure if that's sarcastic or not, but it makes way more sense in a professional kitchen than it does when you're cooking at home. If a recipe ever told me a rule was necessary to make, I would not make that recipe.
@@entertainment6871 Why?
@@Sweetthang9 Mainly because it's just an extra step, and probably an extra utencil to clean. try to minimize the amount of thinking I have to do while cooking, and a pulling out a ruler is not conducive to easy cooking.
I love it! I'm just a homecook, but when making something for the first time, it's nice to have some parameters.
Looks Tasty
Good to see you trying out Indian food. You should see the "real" aloo paratha recipe which is much much simpler and healthier and straightforward from some Indian chef like Pankaj bhadouriya or chef Kunal. We Indians rarely use APF or maida for our daily aloo parathas, instead we use whole wheat flour which is much healthier. Also, we combine it with curd usually and some pickle. A salad like that wud hardly do justice to its taste.
Apart from curd u can eat stuffed patatha with butter or mango pickle or chutney. To get the best addiction add sugar in curd/yogart for eating with paratha rest no need of any salad since u can add onion in the stuffing itself
Those are tasty i am having one now.
For those who wants to make , it's okay to do your own version like if you want simple then you can do without spices just with paper and salt and little bit of turmeric and if possible ginger garlic paste or even powder and ofcourse cumin. Without resting. Don't think much about measures 😅.
Thank you for the Praha recipe. Only one thing was missing, you have to eat them with Punjabi mango pickles, yum! You can get the pickles at any Indian or Pakistani grocery stores.
And what’s the difference between PUNJABI mango pickles and regular INDIAN mango pickles?
It's not just from Punjab
Potato paratha or only paratha is good for breakfast....🎉🎉

Indians don’t use cilantro, they use fresh leaves and seeds of Coriander. Potatoes 🥔 are boiled as whole and then cooled peeled and mashed 🙏🏻

They made it look so complicated. Now I wonder why my colleague's work process looks so interesting. But I like the tomato chutney.
This could be a base for so many different options just by changing the seasoning, savory potato samosa version. Definitely going to try it.
Yes it's similar mixture that goes into samosas. And tikkis.
I love eating mine with with sour cream ❤ another way to eat it is with a little bit of south Asian pickle. Mango pickle, lime pickle, mixed veg pickle, etc.
Sour cream in hindi is?
@@Rvj.12 lol, who knows but it is amazing with aloo paratha. I'm 50 and been eating it that way since I was little. My mom did it, and I think it might have been an influence from the European potatoes and sour cream combo.
I'll make these, but my spice blend is going to be... jarred garam masala. Because I'm in Eastern Europe, lol.
Just Green chille, cilantro, Ginger, chilli flakes, and salt still make it sooooo yum
If eat Alu Parathas with mint chutney and raita, u will love it too.
