Teaching myself to sew as well as still learning the tricks of the trade w/ Cricut Design Space and this is a game changer! Can’t wait to test this out. Started making baby bibs now onto little stuffed baby taggie toys for my 1st great-niece! GREAT tutorial, thank you!
Your tutorial has made my life so much easier; you are easy for me to understand and follow. I have a learning disability so learning new things is not always easy for me. I also struggle with computers. I'm 62 so I did not grow up with them so they are a continual battle for me but still grateful for them they have opened up a new world for me. Your tutorial is a God send for me thank you so very much. I wish you the very best in life.
Hi Girl59, You are very welcome and this comment just made my day so complete! I am beyond thrilled to know how much it's helped you. I completely understand where you are coming from and if you ever have questions or video requests, feel free to reach out to me here or via email. Thanks so much for the blessings and right back at ya! 😊
Thank you for this super helpful tutorial. i have been trying to figure out how to take a paper pattern and turn it into a cut file (from a PDF) for 2 years! Where have you been my whole life?! LOL. Why didn't this pop up when I searched before?! I really appreciate this!
Absolutely, if it’s not too much trouble what I am looking for is to print my pattern and then cut it and then at a later date, I can just do the cut, but I will search UA-cam and see what else I can find because I am sure you’re creating a whole new video for me. It would be a lot of work! thank you so much for making this video for us!
Yes, great suggestion! In the meantime you can save your project and name it whatever you like. Once saved, you can locate your project and simply click on “make it”. And it will cut the same size as last time. But you could also duplicate your project and resize one of them, if you needed 2 sizes. I hope this makes sense 😊
You, my dear have saved my sanity! I have been struggling for the past 2 mos trying to get my purse patterns into my DS for my Cricut Maker! I even bought the Affinity app and it does work but it’s a bit difficult and if you don’t use it everyday then it’s like trying to learn it all over every time. 🧐 Tonight in less than 2 hrs I was able to load some pattern pcs correctly, weld pcs together, mirror pcs, all of it! I’m so excited now to continue using my Cricut to cut out the curved and angled pcs while I cut all the rectangles, squares etc! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH FOR PUTTING THIS VIDEO TOGETHER!!! So very helpful and easy to follow!
HI Tina, sorry I missed this wonderful comment! I'm so happy for you and I 100% agree, it can be a lifesaver for those finicky pieces we hate cutting with scissors!!! I really appreciate you letting me know, truly! 😊
Spent a lot of time to figure out how to do this and your video give me all the answers. Thank you so much it will save me a lot of time and allow me to do more things.
Wow! Just the video I've been looking for. You answered so many questions I had about how to upload my own patterns. It's a complicated subject, but you made it so simple by leading us through step by step. Thank you!
Hi Jill, You’re so welcome & I’m so happy you found it helpful. Just recently Cricut added another feature to Design Space which will be amazing for sewing patterns. We can now double click on the pattern piece in the layers panel and give it a name!!!! So an example might be “inside purse pocket”. I haven’t had time to record the tutorial yet but its so exciting to share with you! The new feature works with any project not just sewing ones. YaY 😁
29:50 I've heard that you can actually use the smaller shape (such as your orange piece) and set it as draw with the fabric marker. It will draw a seam allowance guideline. I didn't know exactly how to do it until I watched this part if your video. So thank you! I've finally learned how. By the way, you teach very well!!!
Thank you. Best tutorial I have seen so far. I am new to cricut. You made it possible for me to achieve what I need to do with my pattern prices. Now I’m off to look for the one you did with an iPad.
Hi Colette, Awesome, I am so excited for you to give it a go! I also want to let you know that Cricut released a new update where we can now rename our layers in the layers panel just simply double click on the layer in the layers panel and then name your pattern piece. This is such a wonderful update for sewing patterns, but it works for any project that has layers. Hope this helps, take care 😊
Thank you so very much for making this tutorial. I had taken a whole day out to get to learn this you made it super simple and easy to understand. Life saver
This was a perfect video for me today. I converted my pattern pieces, uploaded to DS (newbie) and couldn’t figure out how to get the correct size. Thank you so much. Greet video and I subscribed. I also prefer my iPad for working.
Wonderful video! Saved me! I am a new sewer. So, once I make a copy that is 1/4 inch smaller on all sides, I center it over the original, and turn it into a draw line. That way, I have the seam allowance marked to sew on! Thanks so much for this!
Yes! Just be sure to “attach” the draw line to pieces or piece so your Cricut will know to ‘draw’ once you click on ‘make it’. You’re very welcome and Happy Sewing 🧵😊
Thank you very much for making this tutorial! I can't wait to try it out. What a great suggestion to re-size the pattern piece so we would cut the interfacing 1/4" smaller!! Very smart Denise!! Thanks again for the awesome video!
Hi Diana, You are so sweet! I have to give credit where credit is due: My amazing Mom taught me many moons ago to cut my interfacing smaller than the pattern piece! All I did was apply her tip but for cutting fabric and interfacing with the amazing Cricut Maker. So happy you enjoyed the video 😊
Thanks Denise. Just what I was searching for to accomplish this job. I like to appliqué and was thinking that I could scan the images first , then bring into DS. You explained it very well. Again thanks
Thank you so much. So glad I found you. I really want the Cricut Maker 3 but thought I wouldn't be able to put my purse patterns without a scan feature. Now I can thanks to you!!!
Thank you for a wonderful video that is so clear and easy to follow. A tip for the snipping tool if anyone has not already mentioned it, is to use free form tool which is located under the Mode tab. I had a pattern that had a lot of writing surrounding it so is was easier to not include that writing it in the first instance rather than trying to remove it later. Need a steady hand though lol
Hi Brenda, You're very welcome. Thanks also for the awesome tip! I just love it when we all share tips and tricks and helpful hints....You get a Gold Star!!!! 💫⭐💫
Denise, thank you so much for posting this video. Lots of great information and its awesome to know how you are using it for pattern pieces even if you don't have the .svg files :-). Loved how you explained how to make the pattern pieces smaller by 1/4" as I use this lots for my interfacing when making bags. Can't wait to run to my craft area and apply all this new knowledge. It's very much appreciated, thank you.
Hi, thank you for your video it has helped immensely. i have looked through your other video to see if you had a update on how to add and use a pattern, that has notches, zipper boxes, fold lines added to the pattern as well as removing 1" that is on the pattern.
Wow, just wow!!! This video was flawless. You answered concerns and then some. Your speed was on point, easy enough for everyone to follow. My one question is, can I cut fusible fleece with my cricut maker?
I've been using Design Space for a while and didn't know about the contour button ... that's a game changer! I like to buy the 2-pack of plastic cutting boards from Dollar Tree and cut my pattern out of that. It works great for fussy cutting because you can see the fabric below it. Many times, my bag pattern pieces are too large to weld into one, plus my Cricut Air doesn't cut fabric well.
Hi Trish, Yes, I love the Contour feature, so helpful! Thanks for sharing the tip using the DT cutting boards. Every time I go, they never have them, LOL Someday, someday! 😊😊
Oh you don't know how much this helps me! I can probably cut faster than it will take me to do this, but I want to make multiple cuts of a pattern, to save time. This was terrific. I bought the longer mat. Is it possible to put several of the same pieces on one mat to cut all at once? Can you tell how new I am at this? lol. This is a lifesaver for me. Thank you~~
Hi Maureen, Yay! So happy for you. Yes, you can cut multiple pieces on the same mat. I love my longer mat! You can also put one color fabric on the top half and a different color fabric on the bottom half if need be. There are so many different things you can do, too many to list in one video for sure! You are so very welcome 😊
Hi I am very interested in learning the ipad way. I got the Cricut to cut patterns for sewing items to possibly sell and other crafts I’m excited to try. New to Cricut but I primarily use my IPad Pro for projects like these. Your tutorial was very thorough. I would love a iPad one from you.
Hi Bernadette, I have not tried it but I'm sure you could. To try it out. Group all pieces together and select "group" then duplicate the group and turn one of the groups off. This way you have a group to practice with and not mess of the sizing of the original group. Then on the practice group, keep it grouped so all pieces will size down the same. This is where you will need to really test the process out and test cut one out to see how close you are. OR if you have a 6" doll pattern piece already you may be able to compare the 2 sizes? If you test this out, let me know. In my mind you should be able to scaled a doll pattern up or down to your choosing, providing it fits on the Cricut mats. 😊
I have been wondering how this unit works and whether I need one. I love how a friend's cut & sew cuts vinyl for her wallet projects. I think I want to try one of these
Hi Denise, thank you so much for that amazing video tutorial, you make everything so much simpler. I only have a windows laptop so I would be most grateful if you could post a turorial specifically for how to do all these steps using a lap top. Thanks again and I look forward to hearing from you rearding my request. Kindest regards, Jacqui
Hi Denise :) nice to meet you :) love this tutorial, so easy to follow step by step thank you so much :) I would love to see a tutorial on how to get all the pattern info onto the pattern pieces that are going to be cut out :) print and cut pattern piece tutorial I guess lol....thank you in advance :) Is there any way you could let me know if you do this tutorial as I don't want to miss it?... I have subscribed :) thank you again for sharing this, I really appreciate you taking time out to do this :) have a nice day, stay safe and well :) magz :)
Hi Magz, Nice to meet you too! Technically you can't print then cut on the fabric, but you can upload it as a print and cut pattern piece so you can then use your Cricut Sewing Pen to add some of the markings. I cover this in this video: ua-cam.com/video/VsPpC0wFkJw/v-deo.html So happy you enjoyed this tutorial too! Appreciate the comment, take care! 😊
That was very helpful, thank you! I'm new to my Cricut Maker3, and was wondering how to cut patterns on fabric. Glad to now know the snip it tool, and how to make pattern smaller! Questions: if we scan a pattern, would it be a copyright issue? And can we draw a paper pattern and scan it to use? Thank you again!
Hi @thePacadashery, So happy this was helpful. As far as copyright issues (although I am not an attorney, lol) it really can be confusing. I try to think of it this way: If I bought the file OR if the file or pattern was free to use from a blog or website, I can scan it for my personal use for the project I am making. If the same pattern or file came with a "commercial" license, I could make the project and sell the item I created after using that pattern or file. I would be in copyright violation if I gave their "digital pattern" to others for use whether free or paid. The bottom line though is if a pattern or file comes with a license then be sure to read it as some have limitations, such as you can sell 200 items made with my digital file, please reach out if you need to sell more for a different license. So again....there are so many variables to consider. If ever in doubt it's best practice to reach out to the owner of said pattern, most are quite happy to help clarify. Now, as far as drawing paper patterns, yes! You can draw a pattern on paper and scan it to upload it. I'd suggest adding a true-to-size reference such as a 1" square measured by a ruler on the paper pattern you drew, so when you upload it, you can verify the 1" size once in Design Space then you know the proportions are correct. In addition, patterns can be created by using digital apps such as Inkscape, Adobe Illustrator, Procreate, and Canva. Just to name a few! Sorry, this was so long but I hope it will be helpful. Have an amazing day! 😊
Thanks so much for sharing Honey Bun! This is exactly the tutorial I needed to help me with my patterns in DS. I loved your delivery & easy step by step method. You definitely have a new Subscriber
Thank you for going over all of this information, it can be very confusing I would like to see a video on how to do this on a I pad . Thank you so very much
Wouldn’t subtracting .5 make the interfacing a half inch smaller? For a quarter inch I would have subtracted .25. Right? Other than that I found your instructions just excellent! I’m doing research before purchasing a Maker and I’ll be subscribing to your channel right now in the hope that all your videos tutorials are as concise and informative as this one. Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!
Hi Christina, Great question, respectfully no as if you subtract .25 it would leave you 1/8" all the way around the pattern piece. By decreasing it by .5 it equals 1/4" on all four sides. I hope this helps 😊 Welcome to my channel and so happy you are here! 🙌
@pattie412 Hello! Right? It is a bit confusing. What helped me sort it out in my mind is like in my example, we want 1/4" from all the way around the pattern piece. We can only adjust the Width and Height of the pattern piece. So, 1/4" + 1/4" for the width equals .50 and the same for the Height. This gives us 1/4" size off the entire pattern piece (not just one side) Don't feel silly either, I had to prove it to myself by cutting it out on paper instead of fabric just so I could have a paper reference to check myself since I am such a visual learner. Plus numbers simply confuse me, lol Thanks so much for the comment and welcome to my channel 😊 So happy you are here!
Hi Denise! Great explanations. I'm trying to decide whether a circuit maker is worth the investment. You have the most recent information, for which I thank you so much! I just started sewing handbags, wallets, etc. Most of my PDF files, at some point, require me to tape pieces from different pages of my pattern together to make the full pattern piece. How do you take a screenshot of the piece in this case? Do I have to take screen shots of every page that contains part of the pattern then but them up next to each other to form the full pattern piece? Thank you for your time.
Hi Rita, You are correct. Take screenshots of each pdf page then upload to DS, then weld or attach the lines on the pattern pieces together depending on your desired outcome. Keep in mind you are limited to the size of your Cricut mats. A 12" X 12" mat can cut fabric to 11.5" X 11.5". A 12" X 24" mat can cut fabric to 11.5" X 23.5". I will also mention another route would be to digitize your pattern pieces by using software like (free) Inkscape or (paid) Adobe Illustrator. Both of these software's do have a bit of a learning curve. With these software's you then have the option to save as a pdf pattern or a SVG file. Oh, one more thing! If your pattern is simple as in mostly square, rectangles or slight curves, you can create your own patterns right in Design Space using shapes. I've made some really cute cell phone purses this way! I hope this info helps! 😊
Hi Denise. Thank you very much for taking your time and energy to put together this video. I learned a lot watching your video. I also use a lot of PDF (electronic and hard copy/paper) patterns and had a hard time as a new Cricut user. I purchased the Cricut exactly to cut my patterns onto fabric on the Circut Maker. Finally, after a year of having the Cricut Maker, I'm able to do this because of your video. Additionally, the extra's you put in; like how to make the pattern smaller to compensate for interfacing (genius). I have a question; can you place items next to each on the same mat provided there is space to fit? Lastly, I have an Ipad that I'd like to use with my Cricut, so if you have gotten other requests, add my name to the list! Thank you, Thank you!
Hi Pam, reading your comment literally made my day! Thanks so much. You can absolutely move pattern pieces around on the mat as long as it's the same fabric you will be using. You would do this on the "Mat Preview" screen, so those are the mats right "after" you select "make it". Also, I've added the tutorial for the iPad as well. Thanks so much for brightening my day! 😊
This video is fantastic, thank you. I have a question, what about if I have a pattern piece that is 10" x 13", and the machine always tells me it can't be cut because is to large. Is there a way around this? I make handbags and I would love to cut some pieces on my Maker 3 .
Hi Cubiche729, This size would work if you upload the pattern piece as a “cut” file and choose the longer Cricut mat that is 12X24”. This mat can cut up to 11.5X23.5”. I hope this helps! 😊
Hi Claire, great question! Since SVG patterns are still kind of new, I've found most of them include a pdf reference pattern with the Width & Height included on each pattern piece, or they send like an info sheet that gives the Width & Height dimensions of each pattern piece. This way when you upload the SVG pattern pieces into Design Space there really is no need for a 1" square, but I have found some include it. I did reach out to a pattern designer whom I purchased an SVG pattern from and she was more than happy to include the sizes I needed via email. Not sure if she just forgot or didn't think it was needed. I hope this helps! Oh you also have a choice to upload as a "cut" image or a "print then cut" image. If you upload as a "print then cut" you can see the measurements (if they typed them on the pattern pieces) make sure the Width & Height are good or adjust, then change it to a "Cut" File via the "operations" tab Whew, sorry so long, tee hee! 🙌😊
Denise I love this video. I'm a newbie to Cricut and I love how much time you've taken to really explain this for beginners as well as everyone else! I'm stuck though and I can't figure out why - I followed all the steps, I had the Cricut machine cut the 1' square from the pattern piece as well (to check that on my first go it went correctly to size) but the pattern piece is tiny.... it should cut a 5 & 5/8' piece square but it's 2 & 7/8'...any ideas what I did wrong?
@hollyYoung Hi 😊 so happy you enjoyed it! When you first uploaded the pattern into Design Space, did you keep the pattern piece’s grouped to the 1” square to size all pieces at once? Off hand it’s the only thing I can think of in the moment. Also checking to see if you uploaded to Desktop version of Design Space or the App version via a tablet? 😉
Hi, I had the same issue - my units of measure was set to imperial instead of metric. Go into your settings and make sure your units are set to metric.
So I guess we can use this for regular clothing patterns doesn’t have to be for doll clothes and do you have the tutorials as far as cutting like I said I’m totally new to all of this cricut stuff. Yes I pad tutorials as well 👍👍👍👍💕
Hi Rosa, You can upload any pattern. But if you want the Cricut to cut out the fabric you would only want to upload pattern pieces that fit on the Cricut Mats. Currently, there are 2 sizes of fabric Cricut mats. 12" X 12" will cut fabric 11.5" X 11.5". And 12" X 24" will cut fabric 11.5" X 23.5". Keep in mind, you can still cut out large size pattern pieces on our sewing table but use the Cricut for all the intricate cuts type of deal. I keep saying fabric but the Cricut cuts a huge variety of 300+ materials! 😊
Hi Tammy, Yes I sure can, great suggestion! Can you let me know where you run into the issue with your Mac so I can be sure to include it in the video? Thanks! 😊
Tammy, feel free to email me if it's easier to explain or send me a video of the issue. My email address is in the "About" section of my UA-cam Channel. 😉
Love the video! How would I upload a PDF pattern to Design Space on an iPad? I’ve been trying to upload a memory bear pattern, but the measurements are way off!
hi Denise first of all. thank you for your lovely tutorial. but i have a question about how to keep the sizing the same as the original. i couldn't download the snipping tool:
Hi Sandalsbysandra, sorry for the delay in the comment reply. You are so very welcome for the tutorial. The snipping tool is already installed on windows based computers, to find it type snipping tool in the search bar of your computer (lower left corner) or you can use the keyboard shortcut of Windows + Shift + S. Are you perhaps on a different kind of computer such as an apple computer? If so, the snipping tool won't come up but you can use the following keyboard shortcut to take a screenshot with an Apple computer: Command + Shift + 4. If you have any further questions please feel free to go to my "About" section of my UA-cam Channel and you can email me from there. I hope this helps 😊
Thank you for posting the video. My scale line is 5cm and I can't figure it out when inserting it into design space. I totally understand if it is the 1inch square. Can you help please?
Hi Nan Watson, You can go the the settings menu (those 3 little lines) at top of canvas and select "settings" then the "canvas tab" then choose "metric" instead of imperial. Hope this helps! 😊
Thank you so much for the video! The only problem that I am having is that there is just the tiniest bit of bleed from the ink/outline. I chose complex and changed the color tolerance and that did help a lot but when the rotary blade cuts, it is still not completely a smooth cut all the way around. Do you have any suggestions?
Thanks Great presentation. Well done! This is slightly off topic - but how do you get the cricut to line up the pattern to be on grain (either up and down or side to side)? Hope that makes sense.
Thanks. Do you have any videos on svg files? I am new to cricut. I uploaded an svg pattern and was able to cut the fabric without a problem. The issue I am having is that one of the patterns measurements were off? I customized it myself with the correct measurements. Is this something I have to do all the time with svg files?
@@madelinevelazquez7891 If I understand your question correctly you are referring to a sewing pattern you uploaded into Design Space? Or are you referring to crafting svg? If it's a sewing pattern then be sure to use the sizing square I show in the video. If you have multiple pieces you can wait until you upload all pieces then group them together with the square then size as needed. Another tip would be to keep an eye on your layers panel to ensure you didn't leave one out type of deal (haha, I've done that one!) I hope this helps. If you need to share more clarification please do, I love to help 😊
thx for making this tutorial. a tip on Snipping tool- if u snip the wrong section, u just click New-don't need to close and re-open. I want to do this technique with a bandana pattern, the edges of the pattern have dashed lines for different sizes, so it leaves an empty space when importing. any ideas on how to fix this?
Hi Jenny, You are welcome, and Thanks so much for the Snipping Tip! There are several options for the dashed line issue that quickly come to mind. Some are situational too, such as if you sell Dog Bandana's I'd want to make a separate pattern piece for each size to have on-hand type of deal. If you have Adobe Illustrator (paid)or Inkscape (free) you can upload the pattern and edit it to add a solid line for each pattern size. If you don't have access to those apps, I'd print off the amount of the sizes you want.....I'll use 3 as an example. Print off 3 copies of the same pattern. Use a Black Sharpie to make a solid line on each piece or simply cut them at the size you want. Then scan them onto your computer then upload them into Design Space. Also, I have scanned pattern pieces using the "note" app on my iPad as well. I hope this helps! 😊
Hi Oluwayemisi Ajokeade, Currently a Cricut Maker can cut fabric 11.5" by 23.5", now I have let fabric lay over the 23.5" mark then cut the rest with scissors...so while I say you can't cut an adult dress pattern, it really can be done depending on your pattern....though I would be inclined to say it would not be my preference to have a seam up the middle of my dress (thinking it would take 4 11.5" pieces as 2 in front and 2 in back all stitched together) HaHa! so I guess I have to say it "could" be done but too many factors probably to make it convenient? Hope this helps....thanks for making me think about this too, nicely done! 😊
Your video is very informative. I just got a Cricut Maker for Christmas and I was trying to upload a pattern pdf and it told me it was wrong I needed to do it in jpg-gif-png-bmp so what did I do wrong? Please help. Thank You Barb
Hi Barbara, What a nice Christmas present...A Cricut Maker, Yay!!! Design Space is not able to upload a .pdf file. So at the beginning of the video, I show how to take a screenshot of your pattern piece so you can save it as a .png file. Then you can upload that .png file into Design Space. I hope this helps and enjoy your new friend (Cricut maker)! 😊
great video but won't work on ipad as can't grab the whole piece on the screen. love your teaching style so would really love to know how to convert pdf patterns on my ipad to be used for cutting fabric on Cricket Maker.
Hi Marilyn, When selecting items to add to your canvas, you can just click on each file once. So it will allow you to keep selecting more without having you hold shift or control. But.......once those pieces are on the Design Space Canvas, you then would need to use your "shift" key to select more than 1 item. I hope I understood your question correctly. If not, please let me know, and Happy Sewing! 🙂
Hi Denise, Thank you for this lesson. I am not a wizz with software and I appreciate this lesson. Last week I learned how to, and then sharpened my fabric scissors. It took longer than I expected and my scissors are still not perfect, but they will get the job done. Could you please tell me, is it expensive to maintain, or repurchase the blades for a Cricut? I am sure some fabrics might be harder to cut than others, but these blades must wear out. Also please tell me does cutting fabric in a Cricut create a mess inside the machine?
Hi Momzila (love the name you picked by the way) 😀 I am on a budget and buy blades when Cricut puts them on sale throughout the year, they have great sales! How long they last would depend on what type of material you are cutting and how often. To extend your use, while using the fine point blade would be to keep one fine point blade for paper and keep another fine point blade and use it for "fabric only". Another tip is to poke your fine point blade into a rolled-up ball of foil approx 25 times and this will help keep your blades clean and free of buildup or perhaps a piece of glitter or fibers or vinyl stuck to it. I mostly use my Cricut Maker when cutting fabric and often use the rotary blade. In four years I've only replaced the rotary blade once. As far as a mess inside of the Cricut when cutting the fabric I'm happy to say no. Thanks to the sticky mat you place your fabric on it makes no mess in the machine, yay! Great job on sharpening your fabric scissors, something that is on my long "To-Do" List, LOL Take care, hope this helps 😊
@@DeniseHumphrey Thanks for the information. That sticky mat sounds ideal for keeping the dust and threads to a minimum. Like everything us MomZillas do, we manage on a shoe string, and sometimes a recycled one at that, and we buy blades on sale. Not bad. Critcut sounds like a really decent tool. Thanks again.
Hi Denise, so pleased I've come across your video. Not got my Cricut Maker yet! Santa is bringing it. (I wish he'd hurry up!) I want to get to grips with the software and now I'm almost there, thanks to you. I'm a bag maker and have lots of patterns on pdf. Having looked through, not all the pages have size markers (1" squares). How would I add a marker to each pattern piece, please? Sorry if this has been asked. I did browse though the first 20 or so comments. Thank you for time putting this tutorial together. Merry Christmas Christine
Hi Christine, Oh how exciting! Sorry for the delay in the comment as I was on holiday. I can't say enough about how great it is that you are researching the software aspect of Cricut. I highly recommend getting to know the software to set yourself up for success. Great Job!!! I saw that you found your answer too. Yay! 😊 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🙌
Thank you Denise. I'm so happy with my Cricut and so.pleased I had an idea of what to expect. Made a couple of Christmas decorations and cut out a face mask! Every time I 'play' I find something new to research. Seasons Greetings to you and yours. xx
I have a pattern I am doing that is applique pieces. I traced all the pieces onto a sheet of paper, scanned it, and followed your tutorial to get it into canvas. I used contour to delete the 1" box after sizing everything appropriately. Some of the pieces need to go on different mats, because they will be different fabrics. But all my pieces came in "grouped" into one item. Is there a way for me to make them individual pieces so I can change the colors like you did? That will allow me to have different mats. Thank you!
If you click on the grouped pieces, does it allow you to “ungroup” them just above the layers panel is group/ungroup. If this does not work, you can make the same amount of copies of the group as there are pieces in the group and then select a square and slice each piece apart or personally I would make the copies then use the “contour” feature to deselect all other pieces except for one shape, then continue until you have one of each piece that is separate. I hope this helps! You can also email me if you need further assistance. My email is in the about section of my UA-cam channel 😊
@@DeniseHumphrey thank you! No, the ungroup button is grayed out. I will try making multiple, copies and contouring out the ones I don’t want in that layer. Thanks! My next task is to see if I can turn these into embroidery files to stitch them down so I don’t have to do it all manually. Thanks for the help!
I purchased a Cricut maker last December and am still trying to figure it out. In this doll pattern for example, how could you add say a 1/4 inch to one of the sides. Not all the way around, just adjusting one side. Is it possible to do? Or would I need to draw my own pattern and somehow get it on design space? Thank you for your answer. 😊
Hi, this is wonderful info thank you so much, but how do you make this work if you only have the 1" test square on the first page of the PDF file, it is not included on the other 3 pages.
Hello.... Not sure if you have provided these instructions for a tablet.... But is you have, can you please provide a link for instructions for a tablet. Thank you in advance 😁
Hi Anguisssette, I would upload that second page the same way you did on the first page (add a 1" mark on it if needed) and then once both pieces are uploaded as a PNG file you would place the 2 pieces together once in Design Space and then select both pieces and then select "weld". Keep in mind though we are limited (Due to the size of the longest Cricut Mat) to cutting 11.5" long. I have not heard of them making longer fabric mats, but you never know about the future! LOL, I hope this helps! 😊
Sorry for so many questions. I have a pattern and only one page has the one inch square. Do I attach all the pages to the pattern to include the one inch square?
Hi Madeline, That's a fantastic question, Ty! If the one inch square is separate from the first pattern piece then I would scan the one inch square and upload it into Design Space but then keep that one inch square to size with each pattern piece you bring into Design Space. To do this, take a screen shot of the square, upload it into Design Space. The important point to remember about the square is once you attach it to a pattern piece then size it to fit the actual square of the design space grid, that square is no longer useful because you have no way of resizing that same square to how it was before. So to get around that issue. I would simply never use the original square I uploaded, instead duplicate that first square each time you upload the next pattern piece, then once attached and sized, contour the square out like I show in the video. Then start over again.....duplicate the square and upload your next pattern piece, attach it to the square, resize and contour the square out. Sorry for all the words, just trying to make it simplified, Ha! hopefully not harder to understand. Let me know if this helps 🙌😊
So strange question...if you're mirroring to cut on the fold, wouldn't you have flipped horizontal and aligned the the pieces against the top (which would be the fold?)
Hi W T Dahl, Great question! I did it this way due to the curve/angle in the pattern piece. If you look closely you can see the curves match up just as if I had folded the pattern piece over like we do on our sewing cutting table. It's kind of confusing. With this curved pattern piece If I flipped it horizontally, it would have made it double end to end instead of width-wise. I hope this helps! 😊
Wow! Thank you! I've just ordered a Cricut Maker and did not know that I could use my PDF patterns! Thank you!
Hi Bev, You’re so welcome. Exciting right? Welcome to the Cricut family 😊
YaY! So happy you found it helpful 😊
I cannot give this enough thumbs up!! I go back to this video all the time to help with all your tips!! Thank you so much.😍
Hi Jennifer, Thank you so much for letting me know how helpful this was. Many happy creations for you 🥰
You, my dear have saved my sanity!
Hi Christiane, So happy this was so helpful, Happy Sewing and Cricut"ing"! 😊
Thank you for this! Your instructions are so clear! For years I have been having trouble uploading PNG files and your tutorial taught me how to do it.
Love your calm voice and easy to follow directions.
Hi Anne, that makes perfect sense! You are very welcome and great job too! 😊
EXCELLENT instructions. I've been wanting to learn how to get my CRICUT to cut out my doll clothes. This is a WONDERFUL tutorial.❤
Thank you. Best tutorial I have seen so far. I am new to cricut. You made it possible for me to achieve what I need to do with my pattern prices. Now I’m off to look for the one you did with an iPad.
This has been incredibly useful. Thank you. I've taken copious notes and now just have to give it a try!
Life saver
Hi Faodail Creation Sewing and Quilting! I just found my missing comments, ugh! So happy you found this helpful, take care! 😊
Thank you for the step - step tutorial. I learnt a lot how to transfer my pdf patterns into cricut.
Hi Dallas, You are super welcome, so happy you found it helpful! 😊
This was a perfect video for me today. I converted my pattern pieces, uploaded to DS (newbie) and couldn’t figure out how to get the correct size. Thank you so much. Greet video and I subscribed. I also prefer my iPad for working.
Hi Denise, YaY! Great job and so excited you found this helpful. Happy Cricut Sewing! 😊
What a brilliant and clear video..thank you so much…new to Cricut and DS 😘x
Hi Sue, You’re very welcome & so happy you enjoyed it. Welcome to the Cricut family too! 😊
Fantastic video. I'm a quilter, new to cricut. This video was so helpful. Nicely explained and every detail that I needed. Thank you so much.
Hi Ann, Wonderful, so glad it was helpful and welcome to the Cricut family! 😊
You are an excellent teacher! Thank you.
Hi Patricia, Wow, Thank you so much! 😊
Thank you so much for making such a useful and informative tutorial.
Hi Dorothy, You are very welcome. Happy you enjoyed it! 😊
You just convinced me to buy this!!!
Thanks a million, clear instructions. I really appreciate your tutorial.
Hi Delia, Oh this comment is very exciting. I can see how this process will be very helpful for applique. You are very welcome 😊
What a wonderful tutorial!
Hi Vanessa, I’m so happy you enjoyed it 😊
Thank you! Just got a maker and I was looking for a tutorial on this. It truly does help!
Hi Martha, Congrats on your Cricut Maker! So happy my tutorial was helpful. Take care 😊
Thank you very much for sharing this method!
Hi Elizabeth, You're very welcome! 😊
Thank you so much. So glad I found you. I really want the Cricut Maker 3 but thought I wouldn't be able to put my purse patterns without a scan feature. Now I can thanks to you!!!
Hi jandksplend, So glad I could help! You are truly welcome 😊
Thank you so much for your tutorials, they are great, and you explain everything so good! I would also like a 'print an cut pattern piece' tutorial.
Hi Debbie, Sounds like a great plan, I appreciate your request. I added it to my content calendar so stay tuned 😊
Hi Andrea, You are so welcome and so glad it was helpful! Happy Cricut"ing"! 😊
Just what I was looking for. Soooo helpful!!! Thank you!
Hi saraj0179, YaY! You are very welcome 😊
THANKYOU SO much! Questions ANSWERED!! You are a lifesaver!
Perfect video! Thank you so much!
Hi Stacy, So happy you enjoyed it, and you’re very welcome 😊
Thank you! Thank you! I've been wracking my brain all day trying to figure out how to get my cricut to cut out my pattern the correct size.
Hi Carol, So happy I could help and you're welcome! 😊
I just found this video (2 years later) and I love it. Having this tutorial geared towards my iPad would be amazing. Have you made one?
A great tutorial, thank you so much. Very easy to follow too. 😊
Hi Angela Fortune, So glad you enjoyed it, Ty for letting me know 😊
Thank you so much. This was so informative and super easy to understand. Exactly what I was searching for.
Hi Sherrie, So glad it was helpful. Happy pattern uploading! 😊
Thank you! Such a great video. It was presented so clearly and with so much useful information. Just awesome.
Hi Ikie, Thanks so much! So happy you enjoyed it 😊
Very good tutorial! Thank you so much for making it, can’t wait to put in my patterns in design space!
Hi Karla, You are so very welcome. I hope uploading your patterns went well for you and I appreciate the lovely comment 😊
Great video, fantastic explanation ❤️
Hi Chusca ACE, So happy you enjoyed it! 😊
This is a very helpful video!
So happy you found it helpful 😄
Hi, thank you for your video it has helped immensely. i have looked through your other video to see if you had a update on how to add and use a pattern, that has notches, zipper boxes, fold lines added to the pattern as well as removing 1" that is on the pattern.
Wow, just wow!!! This video was flawless. You answered concerns and then some. Your speed was on point, easy enough for everyone to follow. My one question is, can I cut fusible fleece with my cricut maker?
Hi Jannell, Yes you sure can! I've also used the Cricut Maker to cut cotton fabric with the interfacing already fused (ironed on). Hope this helps! 😊
Great content, I want to try this for a small bag pattern I like to use, but my cutting skills need improvement.
@@deboramccadden5318 I love how precise the Cricut cuts! Happy Cricut “ing” 😊
Excellent! Thank you!
Awesome thank you very much!
@darlingdivadurelle You’re so welcome 😊
Hi Bunny, here is the link to the iPad version I made, enjoy! ua-cam.com/video/ycy8UBxqsZM/v-deo.html 😊
This is a great tutorial! Thank you so much, can’t wait to try it!
Hi Lisa, You are very welcome, so happy you enjoyed it! 😊
Thank you so much, can I down size it for my 6” dolls .
I think I want to try one of these
Can you do a print and cut pattern piece video?
Hi Vicky, I sure can! Thank you for the request 🙌
Do you have a link for the print and cut pattern video?
@@DeniseHumphrey I would like this too please!

Hi Paris Harrison, So happy you enjoyed this! 😊

Hi Meagen, Yay! So happy you found this tutorial helpful, Happy sewing and Cricut "ing"! 😊
Brilliant video you made it soeady tounderstand. Have you done a patter Marking video yet. Thanks
Hi Colleen, Yay! So happy you enjoyed it. I cover briefly how to mark your patterns here: ua-cam.com/video/cKyJ7B_zEQA/v-deo.html Hope this helps! 😊
Hi Denise :)
nice to meet you :)
love this tutorial, so easy to follow step by step thank you so much :)
I would love to see a tutorial on how to get all the pattern info onto the pattern pieces that are going to be cut out :) print and cut pattern piece tutorial I guess lol....thank you in advance :)
Is there any way you could let me know if you do this tutorial as I don't want to miss it?...
I have subscribed :)
thank you again for sharing this, I really appreciate you taking time out to do this :)
have a nice day,
stay safe and well :)
magz :)
@@DeniseHumphrey Thank you so much for the detailed and clear explanation! I appreciate you taking the time to answer me.

Thank you for going over all of this information, it can be very confusing I would like to see a video on how to do this on a I pad . Thank you so very much
Hi sandie short, Sorry I missed your comment somehow. Here is the link if you'd like the iPad version: ua-cam.com/video/ycy8UBxqsZM/v-deo.html 😊
This was great!!!
Hi Connie, Yay! So happy you enjoyed it! 😊
@@DeniseHumphrey Thank you for the tips. I appreciate you replying. Happy New Year!
@@gnastics352 Anytime! Happy New Year to you as well 😊
Denise! thank you so much, this has been so helpful. Quick question, how different if I have the patterns in svg files.
That is brilliant
Hi Marilyn, so happy you enjoyed it 😊
Denise I love this video.
Thanks Denise! I would love to have a video for uploading with an iPad and having the marking on the pattern.
Hi Samantha, Ok, adding to my content calendar, thank you! 😊
grate video tks so much!!!
Hi Ana, You are very welcome, appreciate the comment 😊
Thank you for your tutorials. I am having trouble uploading patterns to my Mac, are you able to put that on?
Hi Tammy, Yes I sure can, great suggestion! Can you let me know where you run into the issue with your Mac so I can be sure to include it in the video? Thanks! 😊
Tammy, feel free to email me if it's easier to explain or send me a video of the issue. My email address is in the "About" section of my UA-cam Channel. 😉

hi Denise first of all. thank you for your lovely tutorial. but i have a question about how to keep the sizing the same as the original. i couldn't download the snipping tool:
Thank you so much. This was so informative. I have a desktop and an iPad. Do you have the tutorial on the iPad?
Hi Madeline, You are so welcome. I do have the iPad tutorial on my content calendar coming soon! Yay! 😊
Thank you for this tutorial. can a cricut maker be used to cut an adult dress?
Please send me the instructions to upload a PDF file on my I pad. Your tutorial was fabulous for windows ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hi Sharon, So glad you liked it. Here is the link for the iPad: ua-cam.com/video/ycy8UBxqsZM/v-deo.html 😊
Hi E Russ, Working on it 😀
How did you select two items at once when you uploaded the pattern to the canvas area? Did you use the control key or a different key?
Hi Marilyn, When selecting items to add to your canvas, you can just click on each file once. So it will allow you to keep selecting more without having you hold shift or control. But.......once those pieces are on the Design Space Canvas, you then would need to use your "shift" key to select more than 1 item. I hope I understood your question correctly. If not, please let me know, and Happy Sewing! 🙂
What do you if there’s no inch scale on the pattern? Thanks for the great tutorial!
@@momzilla9491 Your very welcome, happy to help! 😊
Having looked through, not all the pages have size markers
(1" squares). How would I add a marker to each pattern piece, please? Sorry if this has been asked. I did browse though the first 20 or so comments.
Thank you for time putting this tutorial together. Merry Christmas
Christine
Sod's law!! I go back to comments and came across the information straight away! So no need to answer. Thank you so much. Christine
Yay! 😊 Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🙌
Hi Christine, You are so very welcome 🌻
I’m interested in working on my iPad and Mac!
Hello, what do you recommend if your pattern has pieces that run off the page and continue onto another page?
@@DeniseHumphrey could I just draw the 1" line on each pattern piece before I copy it to my computer for d/l to DS?
@@tinaorlita8607 Yes, absolutely!
