Back then this was seen as harmless fun.. at 18 you can fight in a war, drive a car, get married and have a family, give your body to science, smoke or drink alcohol (well at least in most of the world), or start an OnlyFans.. so I think you can take a mildly risque joke about "rumpy pumpy" without any major long term damage. I think people need to realise that 18-19 year olds for the most part aren't naïve babies.. they probably know as much about these things if not more than any of the people saying they need mollycoddled. It just often seems a bit patronizing when people think older teens should still be playing with Barbies and Action Men. You've got to take into consideration this is the internet age too.. people are a lot more aware and a lot more informed at much younger ages these days. I'm saying this as an old person myself. I was born in 1988 and I remember shows like this when I was growing up, this was back in the good old days before the woke, politically correct, mass offended mindset took hold. It's never a good idea to infantilize adults.. I think it often happens some people as they get older, as some age they begin to feel like people in their late teens, twenties and even thirties are super young, but in reality it's more that they themselves are just old.. they subconsciously don't want to accept this so they see everyone under the age of 40 as a child and act shocked when they see anyone below that age do anything typically seen as "adult" oriented. Many psychologists believe the increase in infantilization we see today is actually a reaction to a strong, deep rooted fear of getting old in some of the aging generations. I'm not saying all seniors are like this, not at all.. many are the opposite and see this nonsense for what it is, but some are, and of course it is not limited to the old.. you even get female celebrities of late teens/early twenties who seem on one hand want to be treated as an adult and wear revealing clothing etc.. yet on the other hand maybe complain about misogyny and being objectified if anyone over 25 finds them attractive or compliments them on their appearance.. only then claiming to be young and talking about "old creepy men". I'm all for doing what you want but in these situations often seems like a case of having your cake and eating it too. It's like they identify as old when it suits and identify as young when it suits. It's a strange time we are living in.
