I use a heavy bbq glove and run cheese and everything else till it's gone. We switched to natural stone countertops and I could never get the suction cup to stick so I got a heavy cutting board and used some stainless carriage bolts and a couple wing nuts to attach my King Kutter to the cutting board, takes seconds to set up.

Nice honest review! Tip - If you put the suction cup in boiling water for a few minutes it will work like new again. I just picked one up (Salad Master version) but no hand guard.

Just bought one at a thrift store and it looks brand new. One thing I realized is if you turn the crank in the opposite direction, it will unscrew, releasing the wheel that the comes attach to. It has a copper sleeve bearing that I can oil. Thank you for this video, it was very helpful.

We have one that is about 10 years old that works just like this one. Thank you for the review! This gave us more ideas on how to use ours. New Subscriber! 😃

I just picked up one at a barn sale at a steal! It has the 3-leg base. Thanks for having so much info in that little video. I was trying to figure out how to use the flap.

I hope you're having more luck with the flap than I did! someone else in the comments mentioned that they got a 4-legged version with a wedge-shaped flap, and that the wedge shape seemed to be a key feature in making the flap usable.

@@craftrevue One of the video I saw with this device actually had a chute to press the food down. Kinda wish I had that one. I have to experiment with the one I have yet. To me the flap was annoying, but I wasn't shredding anything.

I just bought one of these on eBay myself, it's a square base model that I remember seeing demonstrated at the county fair every year. Pretty excited about it, always wanted one but they said I said to buy their $5k cookware to get one haha. I did buy an upgraded flap from the company website though. It's a wedge shape so the flap has a built-in pusher. Hopefully it is useful, the flap you demonstrated looks cumbersome.

...you can get the suction cup to work better by warming up the rubber in a hot water.. that should make the rubber softer.

The King Kutter you're demonstrating with isn't complete. This is why you can't shred all of the cheese. It's supposed to have a finger shield and a pin that goes through the holes on each side and the cone shredder attachment. I have 2 KK's and had to special order those missing parts. I don't remember where I found them but they're out there. 😊

That's what I thought at first too but at 1:52 in the video she does show using the shield

@@stevegordon5243 You are correct. I don't think I watched the whole thing after seeing the shield not being used. Thank you for pointing this out.

what do you do when the suction cup will not stick anymore to the counter?

    • @craftrevue

      hello!
unfortunately there aren't replacement suction cups available for this type of machine. the main way to fix it is to replace the entire base of the machine, and those are really expensive; much more expensive than buying an entire vintage machine that has a better design.
when mine goes out completely, my first choice is to get a version with a counter clamp (which are hard to find, but a clamp wouldn't wear out). if that's not an option then I'll get a 3-legged version, because their replacement suction cups are easy to find and the base should be more stable in the first place since the weight and torque from the machine are distributed over a wider area.
it seems like a select few vintage Saladmaster bases *might* work with the upper half of the King Kutter, but working that out might be more trouble than it's worth.
here's my affiliate link for the brand new replacement bases for this machine:

Mine says seven star but also salad master with angular base in love the aesthetic but I can see some dangerous 1050s shenanigans
