Our generation has much more to remember than kids now since we didn't have any of these technological gadgets today and used our time in more meaningful ways.
Avary Kemp Jr I was led to write it brother. I did first cast out the beam out of my eye, so as a brother, I'm telling you there is a mote in yours. I checked out your liked videos, 2pac, 50 cent, jay z and mortal combat, REALLY BROTHER?? You say you are a minister? I'm saying this in love, REALLY, you need to repent, you do not want the blood of others on your hands.
Man its a tripp how far ive gotin, and alot OF MY homies are DEAD and others locked up OR destroy by druggs..i LOST everything but gain MY salvation amén
listing all of those sins does not make you who you are. Who you are is described by God. You are either righteous by faith in His sacrifice on the cross, or you are a lost sinner. I'm not sure how God receives any glory from this song at all.
This song is for people to remember their childhood. He's saying that he's thankful that God allows us to make choices and decisions, good and bad, and learn from them. it's a song to reminisce about the days of old. I'm thankful that God gave us the ability to make choices so we know what's right and what's wrong.
+andrew jones Artists are seen as role models, let's be honest they are seen as idols by children. They have a chance through hip hop to teach kids (and adults since most adults in our churches do not understand theology either) the Truths about God and creation etc. This song gives glory to the old, the Bible says NOT to speak of the old man. Could see Paul writing the Corinthians and just saying, Yeah, I used to do all that stuff, I remember it. IF, he did he would CONDEMN it with the power of the Holy Spirit. Just my opinion, this song was no different than "Back in the day" by Ahmad. in fact Ahmad's sing has less sin in it than this song. Just my opinion. Listen to Evangel, Shai Linne, Result, and see the difference in how Christ is honored in their hip hop and how the message is Biblical
+andrew jones Sorry, I will take that comment back about sins. It was a different song I commented on where the artist was speaking of his ex life as a drug dealer. But, in this song I would mention "Boyz in the Hood" or Ice Cube "Today was a good day" with a young listener audience unless I was gonna condemn worldly music and expose satan within the industry
TheBerean The people this song is speaking to is the people who grew up around the same time he did, so many of them hrew up listening to those artitsts or watching those movies or programs, especially if they weren't saved at the time.
Seen a lot of a complaints as always. While there is a room for questioning and criticism it seems its only on Christian videos where a lot of whining and complaining and pointing fingers happens. Which is very sad. The songs says clearly he is remembering his childhood, the video is showing you some of his memories, why then are you asking where is Christ in this? The brother is reminiscing, at that time he probably knew nothing about Christ, he was just enjoying life as a kid. That's it. People who grew up in the 80s and 90s can relate, this song is for them. If you can look back at the past without regrets, pick out the best and close out the negative, then indeed God is glorified because everything good(especially good experiences) come from God. See things as they are and stop trying to speculate. There is no hidden message, no code, no nothing. He is just reminiscing.
+Alvin Kato Agreed Could not have said it any better! The video actually made me feel warm inside as it reminded me of my childhood. When faced with today’s turbo charged ‘modern’ era where things get old quick, it’s nice to reflect on the days when we had less but yet still seemed to appreciate life much more. All glory to God as always because as I reflect I am naturally led to draw comparisons between my life back then and where it is now. Man it has been one intense journey and as I look back God’s footprints can be seen throughout it!
+Inde Mc Glad to hear that man. When you can look back and see God in everything then you have truly lived. I get so tired of hearing these complaints all over asking for where is Christ, how is this "Christian" and what not. The book of Esther is in the bible does n't mention the word "God" and its still considered a holy book. Let's keep encouraging our brothers and not tearing them down. Shalom.
Yea I hear you...we all have memories growing up as I remember growing up with my brothers and cousins. Today we are not close, but yet I have some good memories as I was ignorant of God's will for me back then. Today is much greater than those memories, because of the spiritual understanding I have now...I would've appreciated this song much more if he had mentioned "Jesus"and how he bought him from then to now.
One of my favorites on the album. This pretty much sums up my childhood.
