Good idea ! If you have a garden , worms are easy to dig . I can't handle leaches .

This could be a great way to get bait in the bush! Just as long as you don't catch a bear instead 😬😆

You should leave them over night... you could use just one piece of what you're using for bait... you don't need much

I bet that spot would be crazy productive in the spring.
The months following ice out aka spring is the best time.
By the time you hit the end of july most leeches will have spawned and died.
What you get past mid july are typically the offsprings which are for the most part small to medium in size.
These guys have an easy time going in and out of the traps whereas the majority of the leeches are large and big during spring.
Being that most will be large in spring, only the small enough ones for your holes will make their way in and won't be able to leave after they ate whereas very small leeches can.
I'm really surprised that half the leeches you got were tiger leeches and none being horses/bloodsuckers.
Tiger leeches are way better than your common ribbons but are smaller than ribbons. The ones you got were close to larges which is really good

I've trapped leechs all my life... most of your info is bs sorry js... June is your best month to trap leechs... they're smaller when the water is cold they usually grow up pretty quick if left alone early in the year.
