IMO, Suraj is the "closest" person the Normies have to Eric from Blindwave in that if he's not in any reactions, it's just not the same without them adding any thoughtful commentary or associated trivia in regards to what the group is watching. Glad Suraj is in this video :)
the subway stuff is also a satire of "Citizens United" (the controversial Supreme Court decision in 2010 that corporations in the US have certain rights analogous to individuals; Community season 3 aired a little over a year later when it was still commonly being covered in the news)
i always wondered about that if a corporation is a person...should only one person who works or owns it be allowed to vote...if everyone can isn’t that technically voter fraud?
I laughed so hard when I first watched this episode. “Did you know greendale students are technically in the army reserves, let’s say a little prayer for peace.” I can’t believe they did t laugh at that. It’s golden.
The subway arch is a reference to a series of Supreme Court decisions made a couple years earlier expanding the "personhood" of corporations by extending to them a number of personal rights typically associated with human beings. (The most prominent of these was Citizens United) The commentary also incorporated a number of satirical references to Orwell's 1984, and the romantic arch in that novel.
About the "deviant" sex act, here's some speculation I read on reddit. On first glance, the first half of title of the episode ("Digital Explorations") doesn't seem to make much sense, there's nothing digital about what anyone does. The theory is that "digital" refers to digits or fingers. Maybe Subway or Britta were using their fingers to explore the interior of something.
1:53 I love that even the people behind Annie are like WHOA WHAT THE when she screams. Guess I’m used to extras in the background just going about their business.
I wish Pat had been here to watch this episode, just so he could quietly point out that they suddenly have lockers now. Then when Jeff pointed it out in-universe, Pat could go, "Hilarious."
This and the next episode are some of my favorite of the entire series. So glad you all finally got to this one. So good. Also Chris; I too play No Man's Sky, awesome game.
Subway is still very good if you find a family operated one. The vegetables at most are just nasty though. Firehouse subs is great too if you find the right location.
Except the pillow fort parts (that was very funny) this was an brilliant way to put an ad inside an episode, Subway must have a very good marketing team. Subway garret sure was a fuckup for sure way later tho..
Rana just loves to shit on Jeff, just get over it, he's not even close to the worst person in the show... I hope she doesn't stay in these reactions cause I'm so sick of her talking and trying to predict everything that's gonna happen, I hope Pat and Mickey come back soon so she can LEAVE!!!
The point of it is to build up the rift between them so that their friendship is tested and we see who they are without each other. They start the season moving in together and realizing they spend too much time together. The seeds of the darkest timeline are also planted in Abed's head; the timelines are all projections he makes up similar to how the Dreamatorium works which is why, to him, the darkest timeline happens when Troy leaves. Then Troy enables Abed and Abed goes too far with the impressionists forcing Troy to put his foot down. Evil Abed appearing to him is a sign that Abed feels his world is becoming darker, since that's what Evil Abed's mission is in the finale. The conflict in this episode is just a further development of that which Vice Dean stokes to make them really fight. This all happens because Abed lacks empathy at this point which he later learns from Annie. Also remember that Abed was willing to dismantle his pillow fort for Troy so he wasn't really being a dick about it. Vice Dean, again, stoked the conflict so they'd fight each other. The end of the season tests who they are when they're separated; Troy has his own adventure and matures while Abed grows more lonely and embraces his dark side and it takes Jeff's speech about friendship and goodness to snap him out of it. The whole thing is growth for both of them. Troy says in Impressionists the world is more magical with Abed but in the end he has his own adventure. And Abed learns how to exist without Troy in the finale. These episodes from Impressionists to Pillows and Blankets are just part of a season long arc.
8:26 - 8:27 - One of the most disgusting (hopefully punishable) things on UA-cam. Should've been edited out but I guess the editor follows the same protocol for TV manners. Rana, hopefully, has had a change of mind after that. I can see her having trouble controlling her stomach for a while. Ruined it for me and for EVERYONE watching with me, hence I am not overreacting to this! This is over!
I think Subway was the same person but Britta was seeing him as more attractive because of the situation. It's like beer goggles except Britta gets drunk on helping people. Once he was "free" the beer goggles came off. Just how I understood it but I could be way off.
On second thought it might be like things looking better in commercials that in real life. Like when you finally get your sandwich and it's just not what you were advertised.
"i was googling record lengths of stuff" ok dean
Just watching this two parter reminds me that the same creative team behind this show went on to make INFINITY WAR
“I love ‘1984’, I think kids should be forced to read it.”
That cracked me up too
The irony of that line
That line is so 1984
Hahaha that was hilarious
I like how Marketa love Garrett so much.
its like god spilled person
CRYSIS ALERT!!! 😁
It keeps me alive
John Goodman was shooting the film Flight around this time, which is why he suddenly has a beard and ponytail in this episode.
It was SO worth it too, loved that movie
I was wondering if he was in costume for something else.. it was so fitting in this show!

"I was just googling record lengths of stuff" one of the more subtle jokes in the show
How's that more subtle than like half the references this show makes
I feel like such a goober for never catching that before! In the words of the great Pat, "Hilarious."

Great build up to my favorite community episode, BY FAR
yes! that one is my 2nd favorite of all time, behind remedial chaos theory

Did we though?
I just noticed that dean was « googling record lengths for stuff », I never picked up on that joke before
Real talk, we're what, like two or three years until corporations will actually count as people? Community was Black Mirror before Black Mirror

That's exactly what it means. It's all but confirmed later in season 6 in a particular episode.

He has the ponytail becuase he was doing the Denzel Washington film Flight.
