Their hand-me-downs are usually still in VERY good condition. By the time I retired, I had more than 100 dress shirts (paid 75 cents on average for each) 10 suits (between 60 and 150 each - some top shelf brands). Belts, shoes, and accessories were always bought at an outlet or discount store. The best part is when those who look like they paid top dollar for their suits asked where I got my suits... I just smiled. Best stores for this type of shopping I found to be AmVets...
I got a 22in Calvin Klein hard shell airplane carry on at a well known thrift store in the country. It had some wear and tear, plus I needed to remove quite a few stickers on the outside. Inside was perfectly clean, but I spot cleaned some areas and steam cleaned the rest. It retails for over $100 USD solo and I bought it for $10, and didn’t spend any money on cleaning it up because I already had everything. That is a 90% discount. Thrifting is my new favorite hobby.
