Lee looks pretty good for his age actually. He and Kim sound good singing together here. Am i forgetting anything - they didn't really sing together on much before this, did they? I remember them both speaking and moaning on "I Dreamed I Dream" and not much after that.
Mark Ibold's presence really beefed up their rhythm section. Sonic Youth never really "rocked" in the conventional sense prior to this. I've always felt Lee was the best straight-up rock singer/songwriter in that band, despite the fact that Thurston and Kim tended to sideline his songs.
watch live shows from the 90s. They rocked without Ibold. Kim didn't have bad arthritis back then so she really nailed all the notes and with a lot of energy. Back when she was using the thunderbird bass. They started using O'Rourke and then Ibold when her arthritis got too bad. Geriatric Youth

This album got kinda burried because of the band breaking up, but I feel it's one of their best works..it aged like fine wine.🍷

Studio Lee is great, but there's a lot of his songs played live and he kinda fucked up the lyrics, like "Mote".
