That's another interesting quirk about vision and the human brain. Our eyes are meant to notice the most important details, so the brain makes decisions on what what needs to be processed or not. When it doesn't know there is something at a certain spot and it's hard to see, it rules it out as useless information.
This is actually the same principle behind certain kinds of marked playing cards.

This video completely blew my mind with the fact that peripheral vision is more light sensitive. a very awesome experiment, I cant claim to have said "its all of the slots" but what was making it hard for me to make a choice (I ended up on slot 12) was probably because it was in every slot and the concentration of the color in the center was messing with me, very awesome video as always!

I like how, knowing the answer, you can backtrack the video and see how Phoenix avoids moving his mouse through the inventory
Well, any movement through the inventory would give the voters information even if the solution was normal.
as a person who makes maps, i think i have gotten pretty good at spotting where the glass pane is. its not that hard to find, it just takes some "practice" and good vision.

For short: The light gray stained glass is a little lighter than a slot, good for people who are good with colours.
It's light gray.
People good with contrast.
Generally speaking colorblind are the most efficient at thoses tasks because they are used to analyse the contrast to guess the colors.

In the "is there a light gray stained glass pane here?" it is in slot 11 as well

after researching the reddit post, I can now tell that the glass panes have a slightly lighter line of pixels at the top of the sprite. going back and looking in the inventory, I notice that they all seem to have that line of pixels. and also knowing phoenix, I can say with confidence, that the light gray stained glass pane is in every inventory slot.
All of them?
I figured it was gonna be all of them as the Glass pane does stand out when you unfocus your eyes and no inventory slot stood out so must be in all of them or none of them
I remember one riddle in a puzzle map. The chest was "empty" until i found out a tutorial. It is a clever detail

Lol!
No
I like the light gray stained glass pane because it’s fun to make a prank about it
I’m so glad I can see the difference in the colours easily.
It's actually a very neat exercise on how we see colours. Because if you focus on it, it is a very slightly darker shade of grey/gray.
My disappointment is immeasurable and my day is ruined.
W
It's in slot 3.
If you see as slot 2 is directly to the right of slot 1.
Or 1st slot of the 3rd row.
Or 3rd slot of the 1st row
1:15 Oh I see it now, the glass pane is a slightly lighter shade of gray than the hotbar
All the slots in the inventory are the same, but they are noticeably lighter than the ones in the hot bar. So either all the slots have glass, or the main inventory is a slightly lighter and i just never noticed before and there is no stained glass.
Edit: yess I was right. I can understand why people miss it if your not expecting it, but to not be able to see it when you know its there is pretty strange to me.
I would like to say that its because i'm a tetrachromat and thus have an unfair advantage, but that only effects color vision, so im not convinced it can help with something like this.
I examined a screenshot in MS paint in case it was green shifting it slightly like real glass or something, But (as cool as that would have been) it is only a luminosity change, the distribution of RGB stays the same even with YT compression weirdness. So my Magic eyes probably didnt help me.
does tetrachromacy even work (for lack of a better term) on computer/digital displays?? this is really interesting
@@kyaattit shouldn't, since RGB subpixels have very clearly defined wavelengths, there simply isn't any fourth wave for a tetrachromat to see
@@kyaatt Yeah it work with digital. Its not that i see new colors that digital cant display, like with ultra-violet or infrared. Its still just good old fashioned RGB. Its more like i see in a higher definition than other people. I can tell apart, and even what the difference is between, colors that most people would think are exactly the same. The only downside is that gradients in digital art almost never look smooth to me because i can see the lines between the colors lol
@@aonodensetsuactually, all receptors in your eye are all activated by most wavelengths of light (in other words, the wavelength detection overlaps), your eye tells color by discerning which cones are *more* active. So a tetrachromat would be more attuned to differences in color even if the actual frequencies were limited
@@jadelynnmasker that's not quite correct, each light cone has a range of effective wavelengths - true - but you can't pick up frequencies that don't exist, such as any other than the three produced by each subpixel type in a display
tetrachromats would be more attuned to pretty much everything except displays, since displays are made without tetrachromacy in mind and produce exactly three wavelengths, calibrated to activate the cones in a very specific way - a tetrachromat might see the colors themselves in a slightly different way, as a colorblind person would, but they don't gain any more detail from it, so they wouldn't be able to discern the difference between shades any better
A way to spot it that worked for me is to look at the edges of a slot. If it's a glass pane it'll be a different colour than the other pixels
Well, now I know how to fins them. I LOVE light gray stained glass! But it gets lost in my inventory so often in creative
i have found it out. The light gray panes make the tile VERY VERY VERY slightly lighter

There was no way I could get the inventory question wrong, and I still did by guess the 5th hotbar slot. I swear there was one there!
Light light grey stained glass pane
havent looked at stained glass panes in a while, but i got them all eventually
Hah, no BS I could spot them every time. Even the final test you came up with. I could not identify the correct one and assumed "all or none" stance as to where the gray square was.
I do a lot of female character creator type things and picking the right shade is a color is important for me even miniscule changes can make or break an outfit I design.
Next up. The entire inventory is just a single slot, textured to look like the inventory, and named light stained glass.
I don't know how easy it will be since the inventory is rectangle-shaped while most "things" are square. But I know Phoenix will find a way.
the way to fix this: make the inventory be 3 slots, that way every slot is square.
This should be pinned instead of the other comment
I remember Etho putting light gray stained glass in Hermitcrafters' chests as for the "Free glass" subscription, that was glorious.
Now we need bad apple played with light grey stained glass panes in a double chest.
when u said we dont know where it is in the chest thing, i found it in under half a second lol.
1:13 easiest way to find it without flat out being able to see it is to bring it into a photo editor and use an eye dropper to check the color of each slot.

@PhoenixSC look at your device from a little farther away and you can barely see a lighter slot. This truck helped me see them.
This is definitely some light gray glass pain
It could be useful for server devs I guess. Empty space does not allow to show any lores or itemnames when the cursor is hovering. Using this glass, you can make it seem like the slot is empty but still show lores.
It's not too hard to find the pane once you can make out the faint outline and sheen. Once I got it figured out I could about clearly see it in slot 8 in your inventory, and slot 22 in the large chest.

Grian used this as a prank in one or potentially more of his recent Hermitcraft videos.
None of the slots are slightly lighter… I think it’s a trick question. For the chest though, once it reset from the bottom right corner… Might be fourth row, last column
For the original chest one I saw it as four down three right
Same here
I was very wrong, I thought you just put no glass pane so I thought there was none.
jokes on you my peripheral has a black circle around it
There is something that is not mentioned in the top comments that matters in this. Depending on the type of monitor you are using, it maybe easier or harder to see the glass pane. So for those of us who literally cannot see it, we can blame our monitors because the color accuracy is not good enough to tell the difference. Or alternatively the way the screen produces its "white" color (backlit or pixel lit) can also change it. Even color burn in on screens can cause the issue. In other words... update panes.
thanks for bringing this up. on my gaming monitor it's fairly doable, but on a cheap office monitor it might not even show up or get blotted out by lcd burn-in
I suspect youtube's compression algorithm may also make it harder for people to see in the video, vs trying to see in game or on an image on reddit.
By taking a screenshot of the inventory and checking the difference of the color of the slots with the color of the hotbar slots (which do not have the stained glass pane) I concluded that it's in every slot.

It also depends on your screen every non calibrated screen type shows colors differently and some screens don't even have the color depth to display these shades any differently.
I think the old gen console edition changed the glass panes to show a 3D texture in the hotbar, thus fixing the problem.
You'd see the glass pane at sort of an angle, like all of the blocks.
What's 3D and what's 2D? All the blocks are 3D, along with most other placrables. Most items, like food, tools, but also flowers, are 2D.
