I grew up in the early 2000s, right as VHS was becoming obsolete, but this was one of many that I loved to watch. If there’s anything I love about the internet is that we can preserve beautiful gems like this and watch them over and over till the end of time.
36, myself and I just ran across a the first VHS tape I ever got (along with Rikki Tiki Tavi). "The F.H.E. VHS of "The Velveteen Rabbit". I'm about to show my son and daughter the short. "Toy Story" wasn't the first film about a a toy wanting to be real.
Slippy Jones YES!!!! The toy soldiers in this make me smile. My 9 year old watched this with me! I still have my Velveteen Rabbit stuffed animal. Lol. I LOVED Rikki Tiki Tavi, too!!!!
I couldn’t believe I found this last night. It made me cry so much. This is absolutely the best kids story ever created. Everything from the funny toy soldiers, to the fairy bringing the bunny to life. I’m in my 30s and have not seen this since I was 2 or 3. And Christopher Plummer was the perfect pick for a narrator. This is still to this day the best thing I have ever seen.
Does anyone remember a childrens Halloween book or VHS about a jack-o-lantern? It had a very unique art style and almost resembled some parts of Nightmare Before Christmas. My memories of it are very vague and distant.
Rest In Peace Christopher Plummer. You narrated one of my favorite childhood movies of all time besides the Sound of Music. The Velveteen Rabbit really touched my soul though. You gave it that extra magic.

Wow. I had this version of The Velveteen Rabbit on VHS cassette tape as a little boy. I played this film over and over again until the tape messed up. Sometimes the tape would get stuck on my VCR and I and my grandmother would drive over to Montgomery Ward for the technicians to fix it. I enjoyed this film very much. I used to get scared of narrator’s description of the older toys being locked away and forgotten. There’s many other versions of this tale, but this one is the best ever. Thanks for posting this cartoon film of The Velveteen Rabbit!
This hit me in the feels so hard. I'm almost 40, and this takes me right back to everything life was like back then, and the morals integrated into this story. One can't help but become flooded with emotion and nostalgia after watching it, even in their adult life. Thank you for sharing this. Everybody needs a good cry now and then.
The original Toy Story. 37 and still gets to me, such a deep story. Added note: Wow.. that scene with the boy being sick and he got better with his rabbit. Reminds me when I was a teen. I have a stuff orca name waawaa (had her since I was 13 and still own her)... and she helped me during the worse time of my life. I was very sick with a deadly parasite (I was very close to losing half of my right leg) and she kept me comfortable while in hospital. Plushies do something to you that keeps you at peace and recover faster. Never underestimate what a hug can do.... even if it's hugging a waawaa.
(sighs) I love hearing Christopher Plummer's narration in the Velveteen Rabbit and in the Madeline series. It warms my heart every time I hear his voice.
The ending of the book was a bit better then the one here. The boy is actually able to observe the rabbit in the wild, while here it downright ditches the boy. Like come on this boy was the main source of your happiness, and this is how you treat him. I do understand that now that he is fully alive, and that he has a new beginning, but it felt a bit out of place especially when watching this as a kid.
After re-watching this the other day for the first time in probably 25-30 years, I was wondering about this. Is the implication here that the rabbit's memory of the little boy and being a toy has been wiped? He's acting the way a real rabbit would in that situation. And the ending does say that only the Skin Horse knew the truth. It seems like the original story is saying that the rabbit was aware of his past and wanted to see the boy again one last time.
@@Mattrino101 there was a version that was made that same year that had won a few awards. That ending was better as the boy sees the rabbit for one last time, and the rabbit says one last goodbye, and a thanks before leaving off into the wilderness.
My nan recorded this on video. My brother and I used to watch it when we visited her house. We used to call it "the rabbit tape". I'm almost 40 now, and our nan passed away a few years ago. Brings back so many happy memories.
The toy soldiers' leader with the big thick moustache always cracked me up whenever he got jealous of the Velveteen Rabbit being with the boy. I died laughing at the catapult scene when He was trying to get Jonze into the catapult for a demonstration and Jonze pulls the lever and the boss ends up getting catapulted instead. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Can’t contain the tears as memories from my childhood come back to me 🥺
Thank you for posting... This cartoon came to my mind today. So long ago but I'll never forget how sad I was watching this. Still stuck with me until this very day!
Whether dealing with loss, broken relationships, or many other issues, this story really did transcend the childhood audience it was intended for. Thank you.
Good times from childhood.

When I was young I would overplay this, and The Princess and The Goblin!😂🤣
The fairy song and the coming to life part gets me every single time
I haven't watched this movie in a long time and just the pure nostalgia, the horse, the soldiers, the train, the tank, everything, and I seen the other versions but this is the best one
Ooooooh the memories!!! Thank you for uploading!!!
This is a beautiful cartoon that takes me to a different time in my life as a child
When youre a grown ass man and start crying from a children story you watched/read growing up. Also I got a stuffed rabbit when I was a newborn that i loved on like in the story. Still have it in the house.
One of my all time favorite stories
Thanks for watching!
Told by Christopher Plummer. (I love Christopher Plummer.)
I’m almost 40 but every time I see this movie and read the book I blubber like a newborn baby. It’s so sweet and tender and reminds me of my childhood.
I watch the velveteen rabbit every night and it helps me get to sleep it’s just an addicting and amazing story ☺️
I have spent forever searching for this story. I remember it being in the back of one of my old storybooks from when I was little. This was my favorite one!
@@TheLookyus I have a bad concept of time, but maybe anywhere from 4-7
I can't believe that Danny Antonucci was one of the animators for this story
Me neither!
Wait! Creator of “Ed, Edd n Eddy” was actually an animator on this?!
Amazing!!!🤩
I had this on VHS a long time ago. Unfortunately, our VCRs stopped working and we gave away most of the VHS's. We finished giving away our VHS Tapes just last week. I miss the old technology. Those were the good old days. I feel the nostalgia.
