Hank Turns Connor into a Deviant - Detroit Become Human

  • Greetings all!
    After playing a path where the rooftop scene was revealed, I started to wonder what it might have been like if Connor had been given a second chance to become a deviant. It seems only right that, if anyone, Hank would be the one to get through to him.
    This is my modest attempt at a fanedit of that possibility. I'm very new to editing at this level, so please forgive me if it's not perfect.
    Also, feel free to check out my second channel: AfroWaifu!!

      To be fair, unless Connor shows signs of going deviant(friendship with Hank, not shooting the Tracis and Chloe) he will be unable to turn into one. Markus speech is like the final push to make him one(and he can still turn deviant after meeting Hank in the rooftop if Markus is peaceful)

      I see the confrontation with Markus as more of a fork in the road. It is here where the decision is most vital. It's not about who's changing him in that moment so much as it is a critical moment where a side must be chosen.
      tldr it's more about the moment than the person changing him that makes that the time for the choice.

    To be honest... locking him in as a machine after Markus fails was too rigid, this was a good moment for the last chance for redemption for Connor, because Hank is someone who is that big of an influence on him.

    • @Donika691

      There is one other chance technically though. At the end of the game if Markus succeeds and has his speech at the end, machine Connor will be in the crowd and will pull a gun, but you are then given the choice to "shoot" or "don't shoot" picking "don't shoot" gets you the whole "emergency exit" sequence. I see that as his second chance to defy his programming. (I also imagine that it would be because of Hank's words to him on the roof)

    • @ThePlatineist
      @ThePlatineist 4 роки тому +199

      @@Donika691 Yeah technically it's a possibility, but that'd be a cowardly move. When he finally realizes Markus won he defies his program? Makes no sense, Connor cares about achievement whether he is machine or deviant. Doesn't seem to fit his personality if he were to deviate then and there.
      I also realize now that by deviating after Hank talks to him would take away from Connor's agency, as if Hank turned him deviant and ultimately Connor didn't choose this himself. Markus and Connor are on equal terms, only turning deviant after Markus' conversation is the most respectful of his free will or something.

      @@ThePlatineist I get what you mean, but I see it as either Markus gives him that last push to decide or Hank does. I don't think it would be any less of his choice to go deviant or not just cause it could be Hank instead of Markus whose words convince him. I also don't think it would be because he realizes Markus won (and Markus would lose if you pick "shoot"), but rather all his previous experiences and Markus and Hank's words all coming together in a final realization that this isn't what he wants. Also I don't think it would be cowardly because the idea of becoming your own master and defying your creators, going from constantly having orders and being told what to do, to suddenly not having any of that and facing the unknown future would be terrifying. Just my thoughts. It would have been cool if they had made a few different options on how Connor could go deviant.

    • @ThePlatineist
      @ThePlatineist 4 роки тому +62

      @@Donika691 Yeah I know it's just a push, but he likes Hank and is neutral at best towards Markus, that changes things significantly. If Hank does it there's actual pressure outside of Connor (besides his own doubts), while if Markus does it that pressure is solely from Connor's own cognitive dissonance. That's what I was referring to. But I guess I'd still like it if he refused Markus and listened to Hank, it's more human to realize you made the wrong choice especially if a loved one helped you see that. So I still like both ideas, wish they had put this in for that reason.

Markus just gives the last push, but I like the idea this video brings up (an idea I've thought about myself) where Connor goes deviant at a later point due to what Hank says to him on the roof (and in my head he realizes it at the point where he's in the crowd at Markus' speech where you are given the choice to shoot or don't shoot, if you pick don't shoot you get the whole sequence of not letting Cyberlife take control, taking the "emergency exit" Kamski tells you about.)

      I think the reason that Markus was able to make Connor go deviant was because that was the first time he wanted to do a different action than that of which he was told to do. Clara and Markus also had the same moments as well, Clara's was when the drunk/high father went to go beat the girl and Markus was when he was told to not do anything to his master's son. Before the confrontation with Markus, Connor had a mission to do, and was not unstable enough to just say "no" and turn deviant, but when he came up to the revolutionary, he finally was given a choice, and that choice leads to his deviancy.

  • @eltsoldier
    @eltsoldier 3 роки тому +314

    The point to Markus being the one to make Connor change was what he represented. Remember during Kamski's chapter, Connor can fail to kill a single irrelevant android even when it would give him vital intel, and he is exceedingly troubled by this. But that alone isn't enough to make him turn deviant. It's knowing that the bridge from here to hell is one more ounce of pressure on the trigger. That if he does kill Markus, he might accomplish his mission, but he'll also be consigning countless androids to destruction.
    By comparison, his personal relationship with Hank is more relevant to Hank than it is Connor; he can compartmentalize and rationalize it as much as he wants. What Hank DOES represent for Connor is undeniable proof that even staunch opponents of androids can change their minds. That's a reason to have hope. But it's not a broad enough one for him to just drop his whole mission over. It takes the staggering and immediately foreseeable consequences of Markus' situation to do that for him.

    1. Not having Hank be the one to convince Connor to go deviant rather than Markus, who Connor met five seconds earlier
    2. Having Alice be an android--this felt very much like the ending of Shrek, which is not a good thing

    I feel like this should have been real.
    Another change I would have made would be, at this point in the game, Conner could warn Hank about the dirty bomb in the city. Maybe it was planted there by Cyberlife trying to encourage a war between humans and androids and Markus and co. just happened to fall into their trap of believing they stole it, but in reality they were _allowed_ to steal it. Hank and Conner could rush off to disarm it instead of heading to Cyberlife as it's too late for Conner to join the revolution. They go to disarm it and Conner can make the choice to disarm it, having consequences for Markus if he decides to use the dirty bomb. Or set it off, having consequences for Markus if they weren't going to set it off.
    Gives them something to do and ups the variety of story branches rather than: If he's a deviant, Conner either always goes to cyberlife or he's dead.

I do believe this would’ve been an awesome scene, and possibly wouldve been an option should Markus die and Connor be given the chance to lead Jericho (Which i believe was also going to be an option but was cut). I wish there was more Markus and Connor interactions and more lore as to why they’re both the same series/model/whatever (RK). Anywho im 100% sure that Hank convincing Connor was originally an option, or was planned, but got cut for some reason or another. If Hank kills him on the rooftop and you successfully finish the revolution with Markus while fighting at the big speech at the end there will be an option for Connor to shoot Markus and if he doesn't it tries to do the resume control thing.

    I legit thought this was real at first until I looked at the comments. All I was thinking was, I wish I had this ending the first time. And then I was just astonished by the OST mixing they did for the scene, especially when Connor saved Hank using Connor’s motif but using lighter sounds. But then I realized one guy mixed this and all I gotta say is bravo

    Awesome edit! I always wondered why this wasn't litaral canon.
    THIS should have been what happened on that rooftop, maybe with a bit of lost, guilt ridden Connor thrown in at the end (maybe even tears), like he was after the attack on Jericho when Markus turns him deviant (I always thought that Hank should make Connor deviate, not Markus...though without Hank paving the way, Markus would never have succeeded in the first place).
    That scene where Hank commits suicide, too. There should be a way for Connor to take the gun from Hank and save him.

    I declined deviancy when offered by Markus because
    1 - It made more sense story/plot wise
    2 - Connor was so determined to complete his mission, it didn’t feel right to have him throw it all away after one encounter with the fugitive he’s been after. I honestly thought there’d be another opportunity to turn deviant. Sorta a missed opportunity for a satisfying character arc
