Because if he was not crucified then the concept of atonement would not exist. Even if it was true that he was crucified then it could be said that the Roman Army was the greatest army on Earth, why? There will be a lot of prophets in the last days. Acts2:17 "And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams". Also Joel 2:28 "And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions."

This still is different after the finished work of the cross: the ability to prophesy, see visions, etc, are remarkable gifts, but it is not the same as the prophets before Yeshua who were God’s exclusive mouthpieces through which He spoke to the people. All believers are now in-dwelt as the temple of the Holy Spirit, and Christ is our intercessor and High Priest. There is no need for prophets in the ancient sense of the word.
