Cyborg is part motherbox, so Darkseid, after getting sent home, could spy on the league from Apokolips, and he learned of their entire plan, and countered it, leading to the events in that movie.

Super speed is hard to portray in animation, even more so with slower characters around them to share the spotlight with.
Indeed, it's mostly a situation of them both being unimaginably fast, but they have to slow it down unless you want a dbz where all the actions "to fast to see"
