What a joy watching you enjoy the first two songs of Leslie Gore's career mashed together......NOW....you will so enjoy Leslie's greatest song ever, a true anthem, "You Don't Own Me." It would be great fun watching you appreciate that one!
Lesley Gore, was an American singer, songwriter & actress. At the age of 16, she recorded this pop hit "It's My Party" in 1963. She followed it up with many more hits including "Judy's Turn To Cry" ,"You Don't Own Me", "That's The Way Boys Are", "Maybe I Know", "Look Of Love", "Sunshine, Lollipops & Rainbows" etc. Sadly she died in 2015.
I LOVED all her songs, and have her albums. She was born the year before I was, so I really enjoyed the success she had with her records. There were quite a few songs in the '60s that had either a sequel to it, or an "answer' song. She recorded these two separately, they were not on the same single ( 45 rpm record that had one song on each side) RIP Lesley, I still listen to your music today. THANKS BRITT for reacting to it.!
Hi Britt, I absolutely loved your reaction to "the sequel" it's Judy's Turn To Cry that was "PRICELESS!!!" BTW, and I say this very respectfully, the curls in your hair look great and you are very photogenic because the camera absolutely loves you too!!!
The songs "It's My Party" and "Judy's Turn To Cry" were really popular at the time they were recorded. Leslie had several other popular songs; solo Pop female singers weren't that common at the time so her success was a feat. Petula Clark was another.
I love Leslie Gore. I grew up listening to her music on my mom's 45's. Then I bought a couple of her albums with my allowance. I usually spent most of my allowance on records or posters/teen magazines of my crushes. I had a whole rack of 45's (including one my aunt made) and shelves of albums. Unfortunately I lost all of them in a house fire in 1995. My aunt's record is here on youtube though. I found it a few months ago. Also found songs by the group my uncle sang with as well.
i was told when my parents left the house, dont do this etc and touch the the record player...'yes mum', played lucky lips cliff richards, freddy fender etc, til i heard the car in driveway...hehe. nz when you could buy smokes and beer with signed note, and to reward the 'courier' with 3cent lolly bag
Lesley Gore was a a great singer. I saw her in concert back in the early 1980s. Unlike many artists, she sounded just like her records. Beautiful girl with captivating eyes.
"This Song couldn't be made today"... In olden days men and women fought for their relationships. TODAY, no matter how much you care about that person, you know that it took BOTH of them to break you up, so they both can take a hike. It's a great help to know that Karma's a "Twitch", and if Johnnie left you for Judy, He'll leave her, too... And Today, Girls are bigger "Playa's" than some men!
It's My Party has been interpreted as someone being diagnosed with a terminal illness. In this context "I'll cry if I want to" and "You'd cry too if it happened to you" are given more meaning.
There is SO much good music from the 50’s and 60’s that I would LOVE to see your reactions to. You’ve got to go down the Doo Wop rabbit hole. You will love it. Your reactions are so much fun to watch. And you have a beautiful voice! Keep those videos coming.
If you like songs with a funny twist, then hit up Cher's "I Saw a Man and He Danced w/ His Wife". Love that one. This was fun, haven't heard these in a while. Jonny IS a jerk. hahaha
There are some who think she's talking about Judy leaving her at the party for a man since Lesley was a lesbian. She was about to marry her girlfriend of 15 years in 2015 but died of cancer before she could.
This is all about love in the fifties in the fifties it was a different mindset however this girl that sings this song also sings the female empowerment song I'm trying to remember the name of it. I'll post a quick message when it comes to me. Okay I don't need another message I remembered it. You want to check out a song by Lesley Gore called You Don't Own Me. By Far and Away in my opinion her best song although she did have several hits if you like songs like this she had another one called maybe I know.
Regardless of anything, this gal can sing. This performance is better than the original. Good thing they didn't use auto tune and ruin the performance.
Hello Britt. Nice reaction🙂 You should also react to her hit "You Don't Own Me". And if you like that one, maybe consider reaction to Angelina's cover of it as well. She was 12. Have a great weekend! Love from Norway 🇸🇯🇺🇸🔥
how is this a first time reaction if you're singing along with the lyrics? i thought first time reaction meant "I haven't heard/seen this before." not "i know it by heart."
Britt I am truly enjoying your channel since I found. It such a fun part of the day to enjoy watching you find joy in these videos! And girl I love that necklace!!!
Totally makes me laugh to watch you young folks react to music us old folks have known, in this case, since 1964, lol. I had the pleasure to see Lesley in concert in 2005 and got to speak to her and get an autograph afterwards, she was just so pleasant and down to earth. Sadly, she passed away in 2015.
Another fabulous reaction from you, Britt. You are such a kick! I love seeing you walk through the songs that were part of my life soundtrack. Keep churning out your magic! ♥️
When I was little... my mommy would put me on the poddy and I would cry ... every time she put me on the poddy I would cry, then one day she said "Tony" and I said "What?" ... then she said "How come every time I put you on the poddy you cry?" ... and I said ......."It's my poddy and i'll cry if I want to"!!!
"Reaction songs" were a thing back then, and still are in country music anyway. I had a big crush on Lesley back in the day, yeah, even with that hair.

Hi Britt, I absolutely loved your reaction to "the sequel" it's Judy's Turn To Cry that was "PRICELESS!!!" BTW, and I say this very respectfully, the curls in your hair look great and you are very photogenic because the camera absolutely loves you too!!!
I always thought both her and Judy should have kicked him to the curb. 😄❤
Right!!!
You really need to react to some Connie Francis. Where The Boys Are or anything she sings. Her voice is phenomenal

One of my favorite LGBT artists!
She was a discovery of Quincy Jones, who later produced all of Michael Jackson's hit albums.

What's even crazier is Quincy Jones was Lesley Gore's producer.
Harry Chapin Taxi & Sequel

I absolutely love your reactions to great songs!
Awesome performance by Leslie...who was a total 60's Queen !!!
She was only 16 when she wrote and recorded this.
Johnny must’ve been with Judy for a while if she got a ring!! Crazy to take him back…
My cousin. Wish I'd spent more time with her :(.
Who remembers this song from Problem Child? lol

Her releases were produced by Mr. Quincy Jones.
You might try "Travelin Soldier", by The Dixie Chicks...
Her hit "You Don't Own Me" was huge. It turn out she was a life long lesbian.
React to her song from the movie sky party "Sunshine lollipops" clip from the movie sky party. ✌️❤️
Legend. Check out "Maybe I Know".
First "girl power" writer. You don't own Me, too!!!
Not a fan. Quincy Jones produced these songs. What was he thinking?
Then we have its "Judy's turn to Cry" but I always thought it should be its "Johnny's turn to cry"
There are some who think she's talking about Judy leaving her at the party for a man since Lesley was a lesbian. She was about to marry her girlfriend of 15 years in 2015 but died of cancer before she could.
She should have never let him come back..lol They cheat on you once and you let them get away with it ....they will cheat on you again..lol

Oscar-nominated composer for "Out Here on My Own" from Fame. She lost to her brother, Michael, who was the composer of the title song.
you should definitely check out her song "you don't own me" as well, if you havent already
"Wearing his ring" means she was probably wearing his class ring on a chain around her neck. A big deal back in the 60s.
Omgosh I had It's My Party on a 45 before I ever started school

I'd tell Johnny, Oh, no you go on back to Judy. You can cheap on her.
Totally makes me laugh to watch you young folks react to music us old folks have known, in this case, since 1964, lol. I wanna see Judy 😍
Check out her performance of these songs at the TAMI :)
Or Ed Sullivan's.
I think this song was played in an episode of 90210 back in the 90's ( I think)
She had a really powerful voice. Strong! I love it!
Britt , you were ready to open another can of wipa.. like you were going to do on Jolene ... So enjoyable ..
"Reaction songs" were a thing back then, and still are in country music anyway. I had a big crush on Lesley back in the day, yeah, even with that hair.
I doubt Leslie Gore really felt bad when Johnny left with Judy!
Unfortunately we cannot see what you r seeing in the clip, but it's a golden oldie and I never really listened to the lyrics so ty!
This came out in my era..I love the 60's..
