The Mellotron was also used on "Tears" from the Rush 2112 album, and "Changes" by Black Sabbath.
Strawberry fields forever.
it REALLY adds a lot to "Changes" doesn't it? And it's such a striking song to begin with.
She's Gone also
Fav Mellotron moment is the ending of Seven Stones from Genesis' Nursery Cryme album
Probably my favorite Mellotron tune!
Genghis Kant Same here, without a doubt the ultimate Mellotron moment! Simply divine Mellotron use!
Some great moments to choose from with Genesis ... Blood on the Rooftops might be my favorite mellotron tune of all-time ... the way it blends with the piano is so epic.
Watcher Of The Skies intro
@@neugey Yip, Mellotron magic.
'The Rain Song' by Led Zeppelin has always been one of my Mellotron favourites
@Jaiden Jake The live version is really good too.
Great choice, Jones is great on that track
Fab song & JP Jones Mellotron on Kashmir & Stairway.
Same
Glad you included all 7 classic Moody's albums. Mike Pinder was the melatrone player and worked for the manufacturer tuning the finished machine.
I'm glad you mentioned this fact. You saved me from having to educate this guy on the melotron. Too bad Mike Pinder left the Moodies, all key artists who replaced Mike were just players whereas Mike contributed to the band as a significant writer of some of their songs/hits.
Totally with you on King Crimson’s Epitaph, somewhat scary how relevant the lyrics are today!
The intro to Watcher Of a The Skies!!!!
Yes! Banksy jammed the tape selector between two settings and played two sounds at once on the intro. Probably didn't help with the reliability...
My favorite mellotron ever. Brilliant stuff.
Absolute love it! Check out the intro of Tangerine Dream's "Cherokee Lane" from Encore, both creepy stuff!
@@michaelcottle6270 I believe there were 5 buttons for selection between the 3 sounds. 3 white for A, B, and C. The other two black buttons were in between A and B and B and C. Those mixed A with B, or B with C.
Especially the one from 'Genesis Live'..stunning
I think my favorite Mellotron moment is the opening swells of Eleventh Earl of Mar from Genesis. Incredible and majestic..!! My favorite Mellotron album is Tales from Topographic Oceans, in particular sides 1, 2 and 3. Wakeman may have hated TFTO, but I swear he did his most incredible mellotron work on that album..!!
Eleventh Earl's lush mellotron is made even more pronounced and intense by those deep bass Taurus pedals and Steve Hackett's guitar line buzzing from speaker to speaker!
TFTO is one of the greatest mellotron albums ever made, critics be dammed!
Truly love TFTO, went to see Yes performance of it at the Spectrum in Philadelphia, the first night all the blow-up stage props worked. Some failed in testing for the second night and some friends who couldn’t go with us the first night only saw sides 1 & 4 instead of all 4 parts. Really glad we went on first night.
+1 for Genesis use of Mellotron.
I completely agree about "Wind And Wuthering" and "Trick Of The Tail" But I will stand by Steve Hackett as the one who made those albums the beauties they are.
Hey Pete! I’d love to see a top 10 songs of the Moody Blues. I see you have the great seven collection. Thanks for keeping the music alive!
So would I...and have you profiled the band's albums? I have looked through your videos and can't see to find it if you have already. Pete, always look forward to your new videos on here.
Glad to see you included Tangerine Dream. Stratosfear is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Well deserved
Tangerine is phenomenal
Good to see you have do many of the Moodiy Blues early albums. A fine band.
The proggiest instrument. My favorite moments of mellotron epicness have to be in Nights in White Satin, Soon from Gates of Delirium, Entangled of a Trick of the Tail, many moments in Suppers Ready and that climax in Epitaph of course
Even Lenny Kravitz - the old soul that he always was - used the Mellotron to great effect on some of his early songs. 🙂
As for The Moody Blues, I would say that they and King Crimson were the Mellotron kings. Although I like every single one of their early albums, and love *Every Good Boy Deserves Favour* and *Seventh Sojourn,* my all-time favorite one by The Moodies is *To Our Children's Children's Children.* I typically play it in its 40-minute entirety. 👍🏻 Incredible stuff.
Bob Schneider a lot of people still use mellotron, Paul Weller has used it on his most recent albums.
Out and In features some of the greatest Mellotron work ever recorded.
Outstanding show Pete!!! A lot of new music for me to search out. Thank you sir, keep up the great work.

When it came to Mellotron, first band that popped into my head was the Moody Blues.
Brian Jones' Mellotron work on "We Love You" was very special. Almost like a percussive sound. I have several sample libraries of Mellotron sounds but none can reproduce that chunky attack sound - there was probably some vintage compression involved.
Stones also used it on 10,000 Light Years From Home.
There was some great Mellotron on the early Focus albums.
God I forgot PFM, shocked me back to my teen years
Love the sound of the mellotron! Great show as usual Pete! 👍✌🏻
Thank you Pete! Been eagerly awaiting this one!
Nice work Pete Pardo! Really glad I found your channel. Learning a lot - interesting subjects.
The opening to Watcher of the Skies has got to be the best example of a mellotrons sound. It still sounds so majestic. The Moody Blues' keyboard player, Mike Pinder had a lot to do with the actual development of the mellotron. And of course In the Court of the Crimson King. You can't talk about the mellotron without talking about King Crimson. Genesis' first mellotron was bought off of King Crimson.
The mellotron Genesis used in "Watchers Of The Skys" was said to belong to King Crimson.
And Tony Banks said it.
I just saw this from a while back
and interested in the Mellotron
Thanks.😮🎹🎹🎹🎹😎
Thanks! Very interesting, great show.
My favourite instrument! Love it so much!
I had to save this video so I could write all of them down. I love your channel, you are so dedicated and so cut out for this. Rick Wakeman is still astoundingly awesome! TY Pete for this channel!
I’ve been listening to Satanic Majesties Request recently over and over... Citadel is my favorite!! Also the Stones “We Love You”( which should have been on that album) has some KILLER mellotron... love that psychedelic rock!!!
"2000 Light Years From Home!"
Planet Mellotron is a cool site with a comprehensive list of albums featuring the Mellotron and Chamberlin. Pavlov's Dog Pampered Menial is a great Mellotron album.
Just listened to PM yesterday. Forgot how great it was. I know we're talking mellotron but Julia's opening piano-shiver.
I agree about Planet Mellotron. I've met the guy that runs the site (Andy Thompson), who is now in the band Tytan. I've been a great aficionado of the tron since late 1970. I recommend early King Crimson, up to 1974, especially from late 1972 onwards.
Can also vouch for Planet Mellotron. Andy is a very thorough and well-organized resource for Tron fans like me. He's really knowledgeable with prog, as well as psychedelia and intelligent pop bands like XTC, Jellyfish, and Big Star.
I agree there is so much incredible Mellotron work on Wind and Wuthering, I think that was the last album Genesis used Mellotron.
There was just a little here & there on ...and then there were three, but not featured at all, Many To Many & Burning Rope if I remember right.
Autumn intro on Strawbs' Hero & Heroine album
Splendid indeed.
Great example
EPIC track.
I found your video after I just bought a Mellotron mini 4000D today. Can't wait for it to be delivered!
Thanks for introducing me to England! Loving their sound!
Great video Pete. Loads of stuff I’ve never heard of that I need to check out. I’m going to have to watch this again!
Love The Strawbs & Barclay James Harvest, so it’s cool to hear them given kudos.
Good stuff Pete. You're my ultimate guide on discovering good music

The Bee Gees were mellotron heavyweights, too, on their massively underrated first 3 albums. And while it was nice to see the Tangers make your list, there's a lot more Krautrock that used the Mellotron as it's Wunderwaffe of choice.
Shane Wright Yes, the first Bee Gees album had Mellotron... also, The Steve Miller Band used one on their debut, “Children of the Future”.
That's why Maurice was so great - hand the guy anything and he'd play it, no matter how hammered drunk he was at the time.
@UCul4WpSxEIsmayBUQtC_U7w haha love it!! so true...Maurice was the glue in that trio
Yes, yes and yes to all the replies here so far. Great call!
I believe Kraftwerk used an Orchestron on some of their songs
The "Mellotron" the Keyboard of Prog !!! : D
I've been wanting you do do this for so long !! Thanks : )
LOVE THE CHANNEL. YOU'VE TURNED ME ON TO A BUNCH OF QUALITY STUFF, AS A MUSIC GEEK WHO PRIDES HIMSELF IN DEEP CUTS AND OBSCURE KNOWLEDGE I APPRECIATE THAT. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK. P.S. YOUR COLLECTION IS MOUTH WATERING.
I was getting sea of tranquility withdrawal not getting any content up till now. Thank you for another great show
I'm discovering 'new' great music, bands and albums to my ears thanks to uour videos. Love the mellotron a nd the favourite albums by ear videos. The Moody's main instrument of distinction through the early years. There's a great video of Mike Pinder talking us through the functioning parts of the mellotron on it
GREAT STUFF again thanks! I have all the Moody stuff but I'm listening to Jeff Beck group band No G Crimson..the ones you recommending. It adds to my prog rock knowledge and collection.
Great list of great Mellotron albums!
Morte Macabre was a Swedish band playing Italian film scores from the '70s. They consisted of members from Anekdoten (Nicklas Barker and Peter Nordins) and Landberk (Reine Fiske and Stefan Dimle).
White Willow was a Norwegian band, but the Swedish drummer Mattias Olsson from Änglagård played in the band.
Something missing on the list is the German trio Schicke Führs Fröhling and their first album Symphonic Pictures (1976).
Tangerine Dream was mentioned. I particulary love their live album Encore (1977) with Edgar Froese on the twin keyboard Mellotron Mark V, and Chris Franke and Peter Baumann on Mellotron M400. Speaking of Mellotron Mark V it was also used by Anekdoten on their first two albums, Vemod and Nucleus. The Mark V was a heavy beast. I know it because I helped them to carry their Mark V up the stairs at an Anekdoten gig in 1994. Nicklas Barker later sold his Mark V and got an M400 instead.
Finally, a mention of Strawbs! I've been hoping for a "Ranking The Albums" video with Strawbs. Any chance?
Michael Scott I don’t think the union would allow it 😬
Another Strawbs fan.....you must also be an extremely intelligent individual😏
If "From the Witchwood" isn't number one, it's a fix.
@@kenrussell1093 I jus think there music is priddy! Hu-hu!
@@digitig Anything from WITCHWOOD to GHOSTS is alright with me.
Marvelous stuff
Glad an American found the Dutch band Earth & Fire! Never expected that anyone outside the Netherlands would found this underrated band ! Great prog!!
I live in the UK and heard their music on Arrow Classic Rock when it was on AM radio. Have a listen to the first Portishead album which I think has some Earth And Fire influences.
Hi from Wales. Love Earth and Fire.
Ik ben Brits en ik ken Earth and Fire! I rate the late Gerard Koerts particularly highly on mellotron. The band's single 'Memories' is a mellotron classic!
Hi. I always was and still am a great fan of dutch prog bands like Kayak, Focus, Ekseption, Supersister, Alquin and of course Earth and Fire. By the way, I'm German and fortunately had the pleasure to see Earth and Fire live in 1975.
Was so excited to hear you mention Tangerine Dream, they seem to be a band that sadly aren't as name-checked as their contemporaries when it comes to discussing great Mellotron bands.
Epsilon In Malaysian Pale by Edgar Froese is THE Mellotron album
great episode as always Pete! hope you and your family are safe and well brother. stoked and looking forward to the Hendrix rating
I love the atmosphere a mellotron brings.
Zeppelin! Kashmir and Rain Song in particular. What’s amazing about King Crimson is that Ian McDonald never played a mellotron before he joined the band and came up with Epitaph.
Actually those are the only two studio LZ songs to feature a mellotron. I always thought "Kashmir" was just orchestra but apparently there's mellotron on there too.
@@mikereiss4216 the orchestra comes in at the end. Just a masterful piece of arranging by JPJ.
@@mikereiss4216Stairway to heaven on Zep 4's a mellotron (Imitating a flute)
Great list Pete! But I have to add SFF(Schicke, Fuhrs and Frohling). Their first 2 albums have some killer Mellotron on them!
John Paul Jones played some classic tracks with a Mellotron.
"The Rain Song" comes to mind immediately!
@@chrisevans9553 The Rain Song and Khashmir
Genesis, and Yes, are my favorite Mellotron users.
I have the iPad Mellotron app, and also have the AKAI MPC 1, with a great Mellotron emulation in it.
What a great time to be into hardware synthesizers and great emulations of the old classics.
Thanks for sharing this list of Mellotron users.
Opened my eyes to a lot of great bands/music that I did not know about.
Have a great day, and best wishes for your continued success.
What a great video, thanks for putting it up. Lifelong fan of Genesis, Steve Hackett, Yes, Beatles etc and now excited to give some of these other bands a listen. Already started with Cathedral, liking it so far. I have to say I've never seen such immaculate cd cases, couldn't see a single scratch 😂
Very interesting! Thanks and greetings from Germany 😉
Love the mellotron sounds. One of your best Pete. Note: Leviathan, obscure band from Memphis circa 1974 has some great mellotron..
Good timing. Was ruminating on the Mellotron just yesterday!
Excellent. The majestic Mellotron of the Moodies and first KC album pulled me into Prog-Rock immediately. Wunnerful!
YESSSS, England's Garden Shed, I am not alone anymore!!!! he he. Did you mention Glass Hammer, Kaipa, Transatlantic, the Flower Kings, Steven Wilson... maybe not but I'm sure you thought about them. :-) Great video, thanks, that instrument sometimes made me feel so emotional, I may have shed a few tears, secretly, of course.
Absolutely brilliant Pete! Wish you could have done a list below! Any chance of a part 2 in the future.
Now THIS is an episode I can get into!!!
gotta say pete , what a knowledge of music you have, I thought he will never have heard of spring, a great mellotron band , but bugger me you have, you are the man
Thanks, Pete. I knew about the classic Crimson, Moody Blues, and Genesis mellotron tunes. But I need to check out the other material you mentioned. I fell in love with the Mellotron with the early Moody Blues albums. And I think that one of the best Mellotron tracks is Afterglow from the Seconds Out album by Genesis. I need to check out the other material you mentioned in this video. I was excited about this presentation since you mentioned it in other videos. You didn't disappoint!
Excellent review of the Mellotron and the music it influenced, Pete.
It's funny, my wife and I were listening to Meddle and 'Echoes' last night, and I pointed out the keyboard part where a Mellotron was used. Have always loved the sounds of the Mellotron.
I was born in '57 and will always cherish 70's music above all other decades. Noticed you left Yes 'Fragile' off the list. Heart of the Sunrise was a very mysterious and beautiful use of the Mellotron.
Thanks again! Don't know why I took so long to subscribe!
Great show.
Wow Pete, such great words spoken about Epitaph , your description is it man
End of the Genesis song Entangled
The “Journey” album (1972) by Kingdom Come (featuring Arthur Brown). Extensive use of a Theremin and an early drum machine. Great mellotron and early synthesizer.
Phew! Take a deep breath after that. Nice Job. Another one I would add also one of my favourite keyboard bands were Tai Phong, French progressive symphonic band founded by Vietnamese brothers Kahn and Taï Ho Tong. Similar to Camel, Barclay James Harvest or even Novalis. First 2 albums feature great Samurai album artwork Unique guitar and vocal harmonies as well as strong moog and mellotron playing. Once again great video.
The actual audio flaws of the Mellotron are what make it truly great and unique (as opposed to what it was conceived to be, ie a sampler). There is always something "off" and vaguely unsettling about the sound that is wonderful.
Clever things told adampoll ! Liké thé Hammond with tone wheels ,an instrument with default which made his charm !
Celeste's debut titled "Principe di un Giorno" is perhaps the ultimate Mellotron album. Great acoustic prog with lots of saxophone, ARP 2600, and of course, the mighty M400 Mellotron, played by TWO of the band members. Pete mentioned it in one of his underground prog shows. EDIT: Pete mentioned them in this video, go listen to them they're excellent!
Genesis fountain of Salmascis...
...and the ending of Seven Stones...
... and the Cinema Show keyboard solo, constantly changing between organ and Mellotron chords.
…and ‘Entangled’ for the single strings chord and the beautiful choir chord progression
My favorite instrument!!
THE CLAYPOOL LENNON DELIRIUM has two great albums with many mellotron pieces.
I have not listened to their newest album but I've been listening to Primus's newest album. Its great
Claypool Lennon Delirium sounds like a subpar Beatles rip off.
@@JJ_5289 #PrimusSucks
Jose Elias Zezito yep
I agree on that. Especially South of Reality is great
You might also include Patrick Moraz's 'Story of i' which has Mellotron all over it - he later took some of the sounds from this album and had them made up into a tape frame, which he used on the live TV broadcast 'Future Memories'
Thanks Pete for this video. I've always treasured the mellotron sounds having grown up with Strawbs, Barclay James Harvest and Moody Blues. Just a quick mention of Opeth's Damnation that has Mellotron all over it.
The Mellotron and the Hammond Organ have made me a huge classic rock guy. The first time I became consciously aware of these instruments and what they sounded like was through listening to Opeth (In My Time of Need). Which prompted me to go back several decades and consume classic rock music which features these lovely keyboards...
Good job, Pete! The fisrt time I saw the Moody Blues must have been 1969. The only song I'd heard by some form of the band was 'Go Now'. The tickets were $4.00. I think they had just released 'On The Theshold Of A Dream'. I was sitting there, the boys were playing and before you know it, I'm hearing violins. I'm looking around, there are only five guys on stage. Mike Pinder went on to make that box sing. I went home and somehow figured out what the melletron was. I thoroughly enjoyed that concert of course and was hooked for life. Saw them six times. Thanks for mentioning Strawbs and PFM!
Thanks for that erudite and fantastic show!
Another great who use the mellotron: The Flower Kings ( for example the marvellous track Circus Brimstone on the "Stardust We Are" album), their keyboard player Tomas Bodin has a superb solo album with a good amount of mellotron called "An ordinary night in my ordinary life".
great video. A little in the weeds for me personalty, but I glad you did this.
'Strawberry Fields Forever' (recorded in late 1966) was probably the first popular use of the mellotron. That preceded 'Sgt. Pepper's' which well and truly preceded the Stones album. Manfred Mann did some weird jazzy stuff with the mellotron as well around that time.
My favourite mellotron album by far is 'Odessey and Oracle' by the Zombies (1968). They recorded it in Abbey Road just after Sgt. Pepper, and the Beatles' mellotron was still there in the studio. The Zombies knew that they were going to get dropped by their record company and decided to split up, but deliver one great album before they did so (and boy, did they!). They also had a limited budget, so the mellotron saved them a lot of money by providing the orchestral lines without them having to hire an orchestra (and it just sounded super-creepy and atmospheric as well).
Other favourites from the same year are 'The Kinks are the Village Green Preservation Society' by the Kinks. Check out 'Phenomenal Cat' which even uses a pre-recorded jazzy piece at the very beginning, it's like a preset, that mellotrons had built in. Also, 'S.F. Sorrow' by the Pretty Things has some magnificent mellotron moments.
New Falconer Records Not exactly prog Rock but Graham Bond used it in 1965 “ Baby Can It Be True”. I think that was a single and a minor hit.
Zombies my fav too 🎉
Have you done album rankings for prominent favorite band members solo albums? You mentioned Rick Wakeman here. How about solo Ozzy Osborne or Steve Hackett?
Great presentation Pete! We LOVE the Mellotron too and use a vintage M400 (with 4 tape frames) along with 2 Mellotron Micro's, an M4000D (with 5 Sound Cards) and several Mellotron apps for iPad and iPhone.
Our motto is "You Can Never Have Too Much Mellotron".
Thanks for the Mellotron video, very nice! Almost thought you weren't going to mention Tangerine Dream, but you did. One of my favorite tracks with Mellotron is probably Heindrich von Kleist by Klaus Schulze on his "X" album, love that song to bits with great use of Choir Tron, must hear on headphones.
like... all my favorites! Mellotron fan for sure.
The instrument had a very haunting and atmospheric kind of sound to it.
Hey Pete, fantastic video! I've been waiting for someone to do something like this for a long time. I absolutely LOVE the sound of the Mellotron, one of the most emotive, expressive keyboards ever made. How about possibly doing a list of albums featuring the incredible Yamaha CS-80? ( Eddie Jobson, Vangelis just to name a few ) Keep up the great work man!
Nice to hear mention of Eddie Jobson - one time member of Curved Air and ‘master of the mellotron’! Both Argent and Curved Air - sadly, seldom mentioned. :D

I really enjoyed this show and must admit I own and love every cd you held up to the camera and talked about...excpet for two new ones to me: "Wind" and "Wobbler"...and I need to check out those two bands right away. Yes, I'm a big prog fan and even bigger Mellotron fan ever since I bought Fragile back in '72 and never in my wildest dreams imagined I would actually own one fifteen years later (1973 M400,) which I use on all my own original song recordings. I was glad you finally mentioned the band Spring, I love that album. But I'm surprised you didn't mention Germany's SFF (Schicke, Fuhrs & Frohling) and especially the Fuhrs & Frohling solo debut album "Ammerland" and it's gorgeous Mellotron-soaked title track (quite possibly the most beautiful Mellotron song ever recorded). However, I know time is of the essence and there are way too many albums to fit into just one show. So how about part 2 maybe someday?
My first thought is Starless. I bought G-Force M-Tron software years ago, pull up the Mk2 Violins patch, and have at it. It’s so fun to play with.
Here’s an odd one for you: Barracuda by Heart has the Choir mellotron near the ending.
Hi Pete! I love your show, I go back to it a lot to explore new music. Thanks to you I got more into Yes, Santana, Rush, King Crimson, Camel, Jethro Tulletc. I'm quite new to the music of Steve Hackett and since this is the first time I see you mentionning his music I was wondering if you could do a show ranking his albums. I'd love to get your perspective on his discography.

Who knew there were (are) so many mellotrons out there!
Love to hear you linkup across the pond with Stuart Maconie from BBC six music. A slot within his Sunday evening Freak show would be perfect where he champions prog old and young. A show centred on a shared top five mellotron based songs would be a winner. Nice to see Greenslade get a mention.
Yeah, nice to see Greenslade mentioned. An excellent band that deserved greater recognition
Got some really great songs for my best of Mellotron playlist from this, thanks. Always loved McCartney’s use of Mellotron canned strings in “Singalong Junk.” Also “Hole in My Shoe” by Traffic and “Semi-Detached, Suburban Mr. James” by Manfred Mann, which I believe is one of the very first pop songs to use the instrument.
Edgar Froese "Ypsilon in Malaysian pale": almost a mellotron solo album.
^^^^^^^^^^^this. If you're talking "Mellotron Albums", Ypsilon in Malaysian Pale is simply the standard. Can't believe he missed it. As Mr Durkstra noted, it's basically a mellotron solo album.
... and SO good as well as influential. Bowie cited as one of the key influences on side B of LOW
@@Novalarke You are so absolutely correct. As much as I appreciate the Beatles and especially the Moodys' use of the Mellotron, Epsilon in Malaysian Pale (original 1975 recording) is in a different category altogether. altogether...as you say it is THE standard. We should all be grateful that we were around when Froese produced this gem. It seems to come to us from another time and from another space....I struggle to describe it in any other way. Froese had no need of a backing group nor bombast!
I'm surprised that there's no mention of it at all in the video above as yhe guy is such an enthusiastic lover of mellotron music. Sometimes the best gem stays well hidden.
Hi here are some great bands from Sweden to be checked out... Gösta Berlings Saga , Anima Morte and Fredrik Klingwall & Julia Black
Thanks for a great music channel to exploring new music
One of my favorite prog albums with lots of mellotron was from the French band Ange. Au-Dela Du Delire is the one I have. It too was dripping with superb 'tron.
Samwise Terminator I believe it was actually a Viscount organ, which Francis Decamps often played, and gave Ange their trademark sound.
great!
Hi Pete,
Just re-watched this fantastic video you did and wanted to mention it was the classically trained Simon House who played mellotron and synths on the two Hawkwind albums you mentioned, a very underrated player.
Peace

Another good album with some lovely mellotron bits is Jan Hammer's "The First Seven Days." It's the album that declares that there's no guitar on the album ! It's a great listen though. One of the best albums I have.
Just hearing you talk about Genesis makes me want to listen to them all day. Really great to hear you discuss Italian prog a little bit. Such good stuff and it doesn't get a lot of recognition. Maybe you could do a Top 10 "Rock Progressivo Italiano" show sometime! Also, Wobbler are freakin' awesome!
Very interesting!
I played in a band back in the 80s, and we had a keyboard player for a short time who had Mellotron. Sounded great, and got to play it myself a few times, quite a thrill to play a real one
Great great GREAT episode. Is a Theremin episode in the works? My band just appeared on the New York Theremin Society's Theremin 100 compilation - The instrument is having quite a Renaissance, and it just turned 100 years old!
