hey lads! this may come as a surprise, because i promised that my next one would be a completely different musical!
that plan is still in action. however, it's over 3 minutes long, so i wanted make the upload gap smaller by giving y'all a short one. i'm going a liiil out of order with this, but i still need to figure out which heathers songs i'll do lol. i had a lot of fun with this one tho :D
(and thanks for ~46k subscribers! ^^)
some notes:
1. a lot of people draw heatherduke in this song as 100% imaginary, but i made it more ambiguous. little things like how she quickly she got from the top of the stall to the front or breaking the fourth wall allude to her being heathermac's inner demons rather than literal.
2. also the 'someone' in the top desc is referring to veronica, who's the only other real person in the animatic. :3c
3. there are a loooot of references to my original 'beautiful' animatic, aside from the obvious one (same bathroom)
4. i actually like heatherduke a lot! she's just one green grape on the vine of countless flawed characters in heathers. i'm love my underrated asian queen
5. the last moment is probably one of my favorite frames lmao
6. some people wonder why my duke/mac looked swapped, and here's the thing - when i came up with my designs for the heathers, i looked at like one (1) reference picture and then came up with hair/body types on the fly. in chandler/duke/mcnamara order, i did tallest to shortest, highest to lowest hair tie, stuff like that. sharp angles are usually more antagonistic, so i gave duke the triangle motif. i didn't even consider canon accuracy until i finished the first animatic. :0 so, in conclusion, that's how these little fanon details came to be. (also duke isn't chubby in the musical. pretty sure that was a fandom headcanon)
up next: that mystery animatic from a mystery musical. (hint: it's 3-4 minutes long, if that gives you an idea of the song)

In one scene, Mac talks about her riding the bus because her rides to school are dead, meaning that C gave her a ride but D refused to. It also said that C and D both have cars. C also was the only person to keep D’s meanness in check because D listened to her(though that ended up making D hate Mac more because she felt like C treated Mac better). In reality, C treated Mac better not cause she liked her more, but to make up with how rude D can be to her. C was honestly a good person who tried her best to make D shut up and stop being rude(making D more rude). Once C died, the only person to stop D was Veronica who D refused to listen to. In conclusion, Chandler was honestly nicer than Duke and she tried her best to make her shut up but that ended up backfiring. Though C cause D to be meaner, it was sort of D who started it all by being mean.

Queen of Dank i honestly feel bad for heather duke. move wise: chandler treated her like shit and duke was fine for awhile UNTIL jd asked duke if she wanted to be the new ruler. then she totally changed. i guess duke thought that being mean was the only way to rule the school and acted as chandler did to her to heather m. in the movie, duke in the first part is actually super sweet and timid you can tell that by how she acts in the first part, again i believe it was the way she thought she had to act like chandler to remain the ruler. musical wise she seems to want the spotlight more? like in candy store, and chandler still treated her like trash. then after she gets the scrunchie shes rude to heather m, seemingly because like the first part, its how chandler treated her etc, or because she can now, unlike the movie, she doesnt seem to go through a HUGE personality change, it just seems like she does it because she can now without chandler controlling her. i feel like both characters are different tbh. SORRY THIS IS SO LONG AHHH

I loooove how Heather D flips into Heather C since she tries so hard to take her place (and awfully does a pretty good job of doing it).
And yeah! even though she's awful for most of the movie/musical, Heather C was terrible to her and I can why she turned out this way once she finally had power. She's one more victim of bullying in this horrible cycle of abuse and control and why it eventually needed to all just stop which Veronica was the only one to do~ ^^.

Okay here's my theory that is definitely not just because I like heather Duke:
So y'all know they she suffered from depression, she tried to do everything to be like heather chandler but ultimately failed. My theory is that she was actually singing to herself in this song, showing what she thought about herself and revealing her vulnerability.

This is just Heather M's thoughts. The voice in her head is imitating Heather D. She'd earlier told Heather she didn't deserve to be a cheerleader and that she should drop off a waterfall. Heather M's imagination blows those comments up and the voice in her head tells her she doesn't deserve to live, either.

Ik i'm late but i'm pretty sure it represents how Duke is doing to Mac what Chandler did to her in the first place
I love how Duke turned into Chandler for a second, because it shows how she's the lead Heather now and trying to take Chandler's place in every way, and you can see why, all throughout the musical when she tries to out do Heather.C (ex. When she sang solo in Candy Store) she gets put down (literally) "SHUT UP HEATHER!" and deciding it's best not to go against Heather Chandler (for popularity reasons) always responded "Sorry Heather..." and when Veronica yells at Chandler's ghost to shut up Duke replies "I don't have to shut up anymore!" Which is true since Chandler isn't there to tell her so. But sadly for Duke, even in death, Chandler out reigns her in popularity (like in Me Inside of Me how because of Ms. Fleming made Heather more popular then ever, or as she put it "I'M BIGGER THAN JOHN LENNON!")
Please remember, that if it wasn't for "SHUT UP, HEATHER!" and "Bolimia's soo '87" the poor girl would' ve turn out better.
It's good Chandler was there to shut her up, but since she died Duke said shit like this.

I feel like in the beginning, Heather D was a regular girl like Veronica, and she was nice in that time period, but Heather C insulted her, and she favourited Heather M more, and then she became evil. Btw please do not hate on me, express your opinions and give reasons, not say "you suck *****!"

the animation is beautiful, but i personally don't think duke & co. actually got into the bathroom and started yelling at mac during the song, i think it's supposed to be voices in mac's head. i might be wrong though

I've seen it both ways in animatics, and honestly I think they're equally powerful. When its in McNamara's head, its trying to emphasize how words last longer than when they're being said. When its Duke directly mocking McNamara, its about how cruel kids can be, no matter how surprising.

I'm pretty sure Duke isn't really there, and we're just seeing it from McNamara's POV. The fact that she turns into Chandler for a second is also symbolic of what McNamara is seeing, although admittedly I have a headcanon that Chandler and McNamara were always a bit closer and that McNamara was the only person Chandler felt any genuine affection towards, while Duke was her punching bag.
I love how at 0:34 Heather D is pushing Heather M off a boat. It's a nice reference to Lifeboat.

This is probably the most underrated version of Shine A Light reprise I have ever watched. The little animations between frames is just really good. This deserves more views, honestly.

Out of the Heather's, Heather M. was the most redeemable and my favorite. For example in the song Beautiful Heather D. is seen vomiting up whatever she just ate. Heather C tells Heather D to grow up and that bulimia is so not trendy while Heather M was genuinely worried for her saying "Maybe you should see a doctor Heather."

Damn this animatic is really good! Poor Heather McNamara... She was the most innocent of the Heathers, though unfortunately she was a bully as well. Seriously this song and animatic are a pretty good representation of what it's like to struggle with mental illness. In your head you can hear the awful things others have told you over the years and imagine the terrible things they might say as if they were truly there. Your mind goes to dark places and you assume that others are looking down on you, criticizing you behind your back. Even the people you love, you sometimes question if perhaps they are faking it or partially faking it and on the inside they hate you/find you annoying. I've definitely felt that way, on occasion I've questioned whether others were just being polite or nice and didn't really like me. If maybe my own friends and family were secretly annoyed by me and if all I do is cause them pain.

This is really well done! It's very original as well. I see a lot of versions that make Heather D a figment of Heather Mac's imagination, but I like the take on her actually being there a lot better. I also love the tie in to Lifeboat, and having Veronica enter a bit before Heather puts the pills in her mouth as I feel that it's probably more accurate.
I really like the small detail of her flashing to Chandler! It works really well
I always pictured Heather.M to be tall and Heather.D to be a tiny ball of rage. But this is still bloody amazing! Like damn!

That's funny because I always imagine Heather M as petite. Because she's the head cheerleader, I always imagine her at the top of the literal pyramid or lifted up as a flyer rather than a base. Maybe that's just bias because I once had a friend who was a flyer in her cheer squad, a tiny blonde who was nice and popular.
Heather Duke (and extremely skinny) in the movie is the shortest and Heather McNamara is the tallest (skinny but not overly skinny)

One, the amount of actual animation and lipsyncing in this makes it seem like it's doesn't need to be called "animatic" anymore.
Two, the part where Duke transformes to Chandler for a second was amazing, and it really shows how much Duke changed since Chandler died.
Three, that little bit where Duke takes the border and pushes it toward Chandler was clever, I liked it.
