I think Heather M's line about the bus has more depth to it than a lot of people think, her anxiety hates the bus, its crowded and noisy and hostile and unfamiliar and it scares her.
Not only that but Heather duke had previously stated that she has a Jeep. Meaning that she could have easily given here supposed friend a ride to school but didn’t

YES! Every version of lifeboat I watch has people laughing about it and I hate it so much. They shouldn't laugh about it. It's not funny. She is basically saying that she gets anxiety attacks every morning and can't do anything against it.

For example, when Heather M struggles to open the child proof cap. Everyone laughed because guess what? She's a teenager and she can't even open child proof caps and her frustration was meant to come off as humorous due to her childish nature for such a young adult. No one was laughing just because she was having an anxiety attack, that's just stupid.
@@pialestrange5826 But, Heathers (both the musical and the OG movie) are labeled as dark humour. So, I think that line of her before Lifeboat portrays a perfect example of that 'dark humour' vibe. But, to be fair some people think that even 'dark humour' still need to have boundaries, and that even for people who love dark humour, they like different type of dark humour. So, to each of their own, I guess?

Ok in Candy Store H.Duke says "Or get in my jeep." implying she has her own car and she can drive and right before Lifeboat starts H.McNamara says "And I'm like Jesus I'm on the bus to school again because all my rides to school are dead." Which means she dosen't even consider H.Duke a friend enough to want to ride in the same car

2:30 I love how Heather Chandler is just watching all of this go down. The school, the Heathers, practically collapsed without her. Everything went downhill from the minute she died and she knows that. I also like how when the Shine a Light reprise starts, her silhouette is walking slowly off the upper platform.
I like to think it's because she cared for Heather Mac. and didn't want to be a part of it/ didn't want to watch her friend die. That's just me.

Maybe the real reason she was a jerk to Duke is because she knew what Duke could do if she wasn't in control. Yeah, she wasn't nice, but she probably didn't want McNamara to be treated badly just because she had a heart, as can be shown by the fact that even though McNamara says some stuff she probably wouldn't agree with, she doesn't criticize her for it. She also forgives Veronica pretty easily and, as has been stated before by Alexander Pirate, might have watched over McNamara because she cared while she was being haunted and bullied by Duke.

She didn't bully Heather McNamara because if she did, then Heather Duke would have somebody to talk to about what she was going on. Singling out someone is a form of bullying, and if Heather Chandler is doing to a friend for no reason, then she does not "have a heart."
This is the most powerful scene in Heathers. Her voice is beautiful.

Parker Pittman I agree with what you’re saying. I also like it because it’s a broken transition. Sure it is what it’s called but it’s different because there is no normal build up to it. It just goes from Heather Mac being calm, to her just suddenly losing it. I love how the actress sings that transition.
She does that transition so well in my opinion. A lot of other versions I see people (in my opinion) not make a big enough difference from calm to breaking down

What you aren't seeming to understand because of your age, is that in times of pain, sorrow, and frustration. Things that on a daily basis that would normally be so simple, are more complicated as your mind is elsewhere. It takes a lot for someone to attempt suicide, and as your trying more often then not. It's difficult to remove a cap, and bring a knife to your wrist.

Yes, I agree with you totally, Lifeboat is a great representation of anxiety. While shine a light reprise could be seen as a representation of depression.
(Also, I think the musical handled Heather Duke poorly, her motivations are much more relatable in the movie)

I know this is really late but it's probably a combination of the lighting, the fact that Elle is actually widening her eyes to show emotion, the angle of the camera, and partly the makeup highlighting her eyes.

I think one of the things that makes this hit so hard is the contrasts: it's right after a funny, light, uplighting song and we've spent the whole musical hating Heather just because she ran with a shitty group - in the meantime, she had this huge torrent of anxiety, doubt, and fear coursing through her at the same time. And some of it was coming from Veronica's actions/inactions.

BlueJ she could be, but I think it's more her (mac's) guilty conscience that shows her the 'ghosts'. What Mac goes through in the bathroom Is very different to what goes on in Veronica's mind. Duke and the students are taunting Mac and pushing her to go through with it, whereas the ghosts of Chandler Kurt and ram are merely being annoying. However, veronica could have very well developed schizophrenia by the time 'Yo Girl' happens, as those ghosts bare an uncanny resemblance to duke in the bathroom.
That's a neat way to look at it. I've always just thought of it as Mac is thinking those in based off of what Duke had said before, and she just connects it to herself.
It honestly annoys me when people say that Heather Mac was innocent and a "cinnamon roll," because she wasn't. She was just as bad as the rest of the Heathers, as she helped them with their daily routine of ruining people's lives. Just because she became suicidal after Heather Chandler died, doesn't mean Heather Mac is all that innocent.

lmao i feel like a lot of people get Heather M’s character wrong. I feel like she isn’t necessarily a mean person, but is on command from Heather C and her involvement with the Heathers. You can really see this from when she says “If i say the wrong thing ... they’ll throw me right over the side”.

In all honesty, comparing Heather C to Heather D is actually pretty surprising, especially in relation toward Heather M. It’s apparently recorded that most of the times where Heather M and Heather C are together, Heather M has her arms interlocked with Heather C so they share a bond of friendly contact. Now, I really don’t know much of Mcnamara’s and Duke’s relationship together, but I personally believe that Duke hated Mcnamara from the start and only got the chance to crush her when Duke took the roll as leader. And no, it’s not like Mcnamara didnt care for Duke at all- at the start of the musical when Duke is vomiting, Mcnamara encourages Duke to go to a doctor lmao.
Oh, and please correct me if I’m wrong about something, I haven’t seen the whole musical lmao.
