"agathos" is the one that is mainly used for god i think and i don't know if it's applied to jesus in the bible. but regardless, i found far too many proof in the nt to for jesus' divinity so i'm not really tied up on it

From my understanding I think the rich man is trying to woo Jesus by calling him good, so that Jesus can embrace him and Jesus knew his heart, this propelled Jesus to ask him why he called him good, that no one is good except God.
I saw this verse, freaked out then came on youtube and I realised before this verse that the deciples told Jesus that they stopped a man who was praying in his name amd Jesus told them not to do that because that man is for them and even if anyone gives them a cup of water in his name they will be rewarded mark 9 :38... When I read that I was like wow "could this man be like the first person to pray in Jesus name that was not a deciple" because it is later on in Jesus last prayer before the cruicifiction that he says we can pray in his name so this man really recodnised God and had something powerful about him to do it so much earlier before jesus made that prayer Taking that into concideration and watching this video I am convince that this rick man had that same blessing of natural wisdom of whatever blessing it is that he had insight he felt in his heart that he knew this was God , when Jesus asked him , why do you call me Good only God is good It was pleasing to Jesus because Jesus recodnised that this man had something deeper in him to recodnise that, it even says Jesus liked him , I mean this man definately had something in his heart to even have an exstended invite to be an apostle , this man couldve even had his own book in the bible but for money he couldnt let go of and lost out unfortunate for him But in the momment u can see even Jesus was moved by this mans blessing he had to see God while everyone else was slower to catch on to it. The meaning is different in that most Bibles are based on Vaticanus and Sinaiticus in the translation of Matthew 19:17 which you quote of while King James Version is based on the Textus Receptus. Thus Matthew did not change anything nor did Matthew and Mark contradict each other here.

Jesus here is saying "why do you call me good, only God is good" as in if you think I'm good, and only God is good, therefore that man must recognise that Jesus is God. Because only God is good, and Jesus here is being called good, therefore to recognise Jesus as God.

He didn’t say the commandments weren’t enough he said there is one thing your lacking implying that the commandments need to be kept to receive salvation. He also didn’t list the first commandment for good reason because he wasn’t keeping it.

Yes, could be. But u know what? He was quoting psalm 22.. so the jewish believers in jesus who were present at his death would be reminded of what was written in the scriptures. Even so Jesus is implying that he is not good the way God is. You don't have to say something in so many words to get your point across. When Jesus questions the rich young ruler about calling him good, he's finding fault with that. The very next sentence explains what the fault is. The "scripture twisting" starts when people reject this natural interpretation and look for a different one. If you think this interpretation doesn't fit with other statements found in bible, you're right. There are lots of inconsistent statements in the gospels. Civilian: How are you, admiral? Guy in Uniform: Why are you calling me admiral? I'm a captain. Did the guy in uniform say he's not an admiral? No. Did he imply it? He sure did.
This passage again proved that Jesus is omniscient, and is part of the Elohim. Jesus knew he was facing a man with Self-Righteous Syndrome. The man thought that by keeping the laws he had made himself good. But no man is good except God. No man can make himself righteous except by God, who was standing in front of him. In stead of asking what he must do, he should have just ask his Lord to grant him eternal life, and Jesus would probably grant the man's wish right there on the spot.

He is coming back to judge the living and the dead and his Kingdom will have no end. Our Lord Jesus is so amazing. This is a verse that has stumped me for awhile because I saw it as Jesus saying that He is not good like the Father is… but I am now just so amazed to see that He was actually PROVING to be God by saying these things. I am a bit confused with this way of equating things.... Mark 10: 18 "why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone".... Its not the goodness that is the problem...Everybody knows Jesus is a good and a pious man. The problem here is Jesus has a distinct identity of God in his words. He calls God as good although calling himself good directly was an easier way of saying it. I know people will read my comments and start fighting with me but as a seeker of knowledge i have to understand this. Jesus keeps on saying things in a way where God is distinctly separate from him but later apologistics like Sam and David try to equate things like..... You know what is the biggest proof that this verse is problematic for the idea of worshipping prophet Jesus ? That the writer of Matthew's bible (which is known to use Mark as a source), did change the text to : "Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, keep the commandments.” This is a simple example that shows how did the bible has been corrupted on purpose over time. I don't see any corruption in dogma or corrupted teachings of Christianity by what you mention small minor variation in the text that can easily be reconciled by taking into account the other gospels mark and luke account combined to easily find out and know the actual truth. This is how natural historical textual analysis works. Even the many Qurans in history have these natural variations like Dr. Shabir Ally and Dr. Hamza says it's natural even for Quran. Here is my answer to that scripture. Told to me by the Holy Spirit. At the time when that man asked that question and Jesus replied why do you say I am good no one is good. It was because the man who asked that question did not recognized Jesus as God. The question he asked Jesus seem very mocking. we already know when Jesus answer questions he answer using parables and answer questions with questions. So the reason Jesus answered with a question is because that man did not see him as God he only see him as another prophet like Elijah this is why Jesus asked his decouples Matthew 16:13 “ who do people say I am” and his disciples responded some say your John some say you’re Elijah. So instead of Jesus exalting himself and responded he first stated that God in heaven is good when you know who you are you need not to prove anything. Jesus came from heaven to earth to teach us how to live for God not to be self praised on earth. Jesus know he who exalt himself shall be a base but he who humble himself shall be exalted.

Jesus was giving us an example that none of us can be as good as God himself. It's teaching about being humble and how to stay in the humble place by knowing the truth.
I really dislike how pastors or preachers will pick apart these stories too. Many Christians will take just one line from a verse. And ignore the whole story. This whole story has many layers to its beauty.

Scripture twisting is the right name for this video. Jesus says no one is good except God and every good thing Jesus had was given from the father. Psalm 16:2, James 1:17, John 3:27 (to name a few). Jesus was good correct but He was good because God made Him good. Thats what Jesus was talking about no man is good only God. Again when the disciples asked Jesus who can enter. Jesus is correct to say by man it is not possible (including Him) but for God nothing is impossible. So if nothing is impossible for God. That would also imply that God can create a human, exalt Him, work through Him to Show his love for mankind. Jesus knows perfectly who He is. He is the bridge, channel, doorway for us to connect with God 1tim2:3-5.
If the point of the quote is Jesus asking the man if he knows he's God just because he called him good, then it makes Jesus look incredibly paranoid, particularly in the context of the rest of Mark where he's always telling people not to tell everyone he's the Messiah
It's pretty obvious if you just understand that the title "Good Teacher" was never applied to other Rabbis in Jesus' day, like No where in the Talmud. So Jesus and the others around him hearing this would know the implications of such a title. Jesus is saying do you really know what it means for you to call me that? Following me is the way to eternal life, I am that One.
1. If you follow the Quran you can’t accept this verse as saying Jesus is not good because in the Quran, Jesus is absolutely and essentially good from conception (surah 19:19). For all things are possible with God.” In verse 45 of the same chapter, Jesus says “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”” This aligns with psalm 45:7-9 “Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice, that he should live on forever and never see the pit.” You see? So no human being can offer the price of redemption for a single human soul so they continue to live forever. And finally, psalm 49:15 “But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah.” So Jesus, doing what no man is capable of doing, is doing what only God can do in ransoming our soul from the power of Sheol, demonstrating He is God.

So I'm reading through the Bible right now, but I'm a little older now and have been really taking my time to try and understand exactly what's going on and I was reading like an hour ago in Luke I believe and it was chapter 18 somewhere. Jesus says (paraphrasing because I'm not in my room with my Bible right now) only God is good. I'm so confused, how can there be a Trinity with equal parts Father, Son, Holy Spirit when Jesus literally just said only God is good? So am I understanding this correctly when I'm taking this at face value and it sounds like Jesus just said he isn't God because he said he isn't good? I literally don't know how else to interpret this. Is the trinity a false doctrine? Can someone please share your thoughts and tell me I'm crazy? I feel like Jesus was asking the man to follow him and pointed to God. Jesus said nothing about him being good right here, he said only God is good I'm so confused.
Jesus calls himself the “good shepherd” (John 10:11) but also says no one except God is good (Mark 10:18) therefore Jesus claims divinity and this is only one of many places where Jesus claims divinity

God's incarnation Part 1 God is the omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. God has three entities but one God. The WORD of God is in God and is God. The Spirit of God is in God and is God. The Word and Spirit of God is in God to form One God. The Word of God and Spirit of God can be with God and it also can go anywhere to perform the bidding of God. Hence God is the param atma with His Word and Spirit. This is known as the Trinity. Three entities in ONE GOD. An example of the sun will clarify this aspect. The sun has two other elements viz. Heat and light. The heat of the sun and its light and the sun together is not three sun, but one sun. Just like the Word of God and Spirit of God and God is one God. Three entities but ONE GOD. The heat and light of the sun, is in the sun and yet at the same time can manifest on earth or any other place. Similarly the Word and Spirit of God is with God and at the same time manifest anywhere, but all these three make only ONE God. Another example to show that three entities forms One God is the three sides of a triangle to form one triangle. Even if one side is missing, it cannot be called a triangle. These are simple examples for understanding and cannot be considered otherwise. God created the universe, the angles and all other creation including human beings through His Word. He spoke and it was done. The book of Genesis clearly states this. The angles and human being have the spirit of God, which is also referred as the soul. The angels and human beings have a free will to choose.Even to disobey God. However the law of God says, disobedience to God's command is sin and the punishment for sin is death. The death of the soul, eternal death. Lucifer and some of his angles revolted against God, when God made man the steward of creation. God threw Satan and his fallen angels on to the earth where they rule now. The law will judge them and their punishment will be eternal death in hell. That judgment is yet to come. Satan swore to destroy man, Gods favorite creation and for this he tempted Adam and Eve and caused them to sin. They disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge. Adam and eve were also thrown into this world, where satan was already shunted from heaven. They will also face judgment. Result of their disobedience will be death of body and soul and hell. Law was same for humans and for Satan and his followers. However Satan revolted against God by his own free will, fully knowing the consequences and was not tricked by anyone, but Adam and Eve were tricked by Satan. God therefore in His wisdom promised a MASSIAH who would save human beings from this judgment. Since human beings had disobeyed God, humans must face the judgment and punishment. One man who is sinless and a human being, can die to redeem all humankind. He would be the Messiah. Since God had promised this messiah, God had to provide. In order to have such a person, the Word of God, which is God, had to incarnate as a human being ( first chapter from the Gospel of John), because only a sinless human being's death, can fulfill the law and redeem humankind from the punishment of the law. Two thousand years ago, the word of God became man. The man was born to a virgin woman, by the overshadowing of the holy spirit of God, who is also God, third person from the Trinity. Jesus was therefore born as perfect God, because He is the incarnation of the Word of God, and perfect man born to a woman,as all humans are born. Since Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit, Jesus became the Son of God, as He was begotten by God and not created. This incarnate Word of God was given the title of Son of God, as a human being. Jesus was God because He is the Word incarnate and also human Son of God, because he was son of Mary, a human being. Therefore He was a perfect and sinless human being and perfect God. The two entities of Jesus in one human body. Once this is clear, you will have no confusion of the divinity of Jesus. During the lifetime of jesus He projected Himself both as man with human qualities and as God, revealing divine qualities. Both these personalities are distinct and can be projected according to the circumstances. That is why Jesus claim divinity with God, being the Word of God and at other times jesus projected Himself as human, who is totally dependent on God. He is the Messiah, with one sole mission of taking all sins of humankind and die on the cross. The salvation of humankind. Once Jesus died for all sins, the judgment of the Law was fulfilled against all humanity. God from the seat of judge, where He earlier was, became the Father of humankind, just like He was to Adam and eve, before they disobeyed God. The biblical sayings of Jesus must be seen in this light, as to who is speaking and the context, or else we will misunderstand the Bible. When you see the context, you will see both the human and divine aspect of Jesus clearly. For example jesus was tempted by the devil, Mathew chapter 4 verses 1 to 11., jesus felt hungry and thirsty. It was the human Jesus, who was tempted and not the divine Jesus. Human jesus had fear of death, as we see His prayers in the garden of Gethsemane. The human Jesus knew He would be forsaken, because jesus the word of God, being God cannot die. Hence Jesus the human is destined to die for the sins of humankind. That was the mission of Jesus the Messiah. Gospel of Mark chapter 14 verses 32 onwards, Jesus the human being was destined to be crucified. Hence jesus the God had to forsake the human jesus, to go for crucifixion as a human jesus. That is why we hear jesus crying out from the cross to God, asking why he was forsaken. Gospel of Mark chapter 15 verses 33 onwards, God knows that jesus the human must pay the price to liberate mankind. Alternatively we see the divine nature of Jesus in His miracles, especially the healing of the paralytic man ,Mathew chapter 9 verses one onwards. Here Jesus says, take heart my son, your sins are forgiven. Only God can forgive sin. By this act of forgiving sin, Jesus show His divinity. It is the Word of God in Jesus that was speaking and workingall the miracles we readin the Bible. Further Jesus had said I and the Father are one. Here Jesus the divine Word of God is speaking, because Word of God, Spirit of God and God the Father is one. Similarly when Jesus said if you have seen me, you have seen the Father. Here too Jesus the Word incarnate is speaking, because the Word of God and the Spirit of God is one with the Father God. Further the act of Jesus cleansing the temple, Mathew chapter 21 verses 12 onwards. The turning of tables of money changers in Jerusalem temple. Chasing the traders of doves and other sacrificial animals, would under normal circumstances be a sin, If jesus the human had done this. The beating of traders and destroying property of money changers or Jesus calling the phrases a brood of vipers, hippocrites would be sinful acts.These acts would be sinful for human Jesus, but these acts are not sinful, for Jesus the Word of God, who has the divine authority to punish. So the distinction is clear, of Word of God Jesus, as God, who could do all these acts but human Jesus doing them would be sinful. The God Jesus was all powerful. We see that nature and its law obeying God Jesus. These acts tells us about divinity of Jesus, being the Word of God. The separate identity of Jesus, the Word of God and human Jesus is clear, although both the divine and human jesus are in one body. However, we have seen the human Jesus was forsaken by the Word of God, when He was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane. John chapter 18 verses 4 onwards. The Word of God distanced itself from human Jesus. This was necessary because It was the human jesus who was to be crucified and die for all mankind to fulfill the Law and the judgment, thereby redeeming all mankind. When Jesus said I am He, to the people who came to arrest Jesus, those people drew back and fell to the ground. This was because divine Jesus had that power. After that point onwards, we see the separation, Jesus the human being, went as human Messiah for His crucifixion. When that mission was over, and Jesus died on the cross, God the Father shifted Himself from being a judge, to again being the Father, as the Law was fulfilled.
Look at the verse again, *“18 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.”* *Mark 10:18* -“Why call me good?” What reason do you have to call me good? -“there is none good” No human being is good past/present/future we are all sinners. -“but” There’s an exception to that. -“one” One specific human being that will/has walked this earth. -“that is God” This being will be God dwelling in the body of a man. So Jesus asks “Are you saying I am the one good human being who will be Immanuel: “God with us”? The Messiah?” If you read from the Bible, reread Messianic prophecies and the New Testament and you’ll understand exactly what was in the body of the sinless virgin-born Nazarene who was crucified in order that through repentance and faith in him we may inherit his sinless blood.

Jesus DID NOT say, the man had to come follow him. If he had meant that he would not have said "Sell your possessions, give the poor and you will have treasure in heaven, and then come follow me." He would have said "Sell your possessions, give to the poor, come follow me and you will have treasure in heaven. It's this guy twisting the scripture, not the critics. Why do Christians not infer from what Jesus said that he is not God and knows he is not God? The only reason I can think why they would not infer that from the passage is because they believe that Jesus is God and of course knew he was God and so must have meant something else. However, many non fundamentalist Biblical scholars agree that Jesus most likely did not consider himself to be God and that his earliest followers did not consider him to be God. As such, the most sensible reading of the text in question is that indeed Jesus was inferring that he was not God. He never says the man would inherit eternal life by following him. He clearly says that obeying the commandment and having compassion on the poor rather than hoarding wealth are enough. "Come follow me" is tagged on after establishing that.
To be fair, you are also being biased in your interpretation in the sense that you assume that he couldn't have been talking about himself. However, I agree with you. Reading that passage, there is no way to interpret it as Jesus saying he is God. The average person, without ever reading the Bible, would think that Jesus is saying he isn't God. If my name were X and someone called me Y, my reaction would indeed be to ask, "why are you calling me Y?" However, I don't think that shows that X isn't equal to Y. The problem is with people saying that Jesus is saying he's God instead of admitting that it's at best ambiguous. I obviously believe that Jesus is God, so I believe he was saying that he is God. This is NOT meant as a stumbling block, but food for thought. It makes NO sense that Eshu would chastise someone for the use of "good" to describe someone, as in Mathi 12:35 he used it in his teaching ( taba gabra ). Also in the same teaching, treasure is neither morally good nor evil. The more correct translation would have been "storehouse". The rich man, would more likely have used the word "great". The Galilean words for good and great, are very similar in spelling and vocalization. A scribe could have very easily erred in the translation. The use of "great" would make more sense for Eshu to chastise the young man, as only MarYah is great! Also of note is, the root meaning of the Galilean words for "good", was "ripe" and "evil" was "unripe" ( see Mathi 7:17). The word "saphiyr" was also used for "delightful", "pleasing" and "good". "agathos" is the one that is mainly used for god i think and i don't know if it's applied to jesus in the bible. but regardless, i found far too many proof in the nt to for jesus' divinity so i'm not really tied up on it

And this is what a prophet from God does, not what God Himself does. A prophet speaks from what he hears from God not from himself. Christians believe that the Holy Spirit is God, how come we say that God doesn’t speak from Himself? This is a proof that the verses here are not talking about the third person in the trinity but rather it is talking about a prophet that shall be sent from God'.

The other thing is that there are explicitly two objects in this verse, one is ME and the other is GOD

Here Jesus Christ peace be upon him clearly differentiates himself from GOD. If Jesus Christ peace be upon him was GOD himself then he would have only said that "No one is good except God alone." skipping the first phrase "Why do you call Me good?"

From my understanding I think the rich man is trying to woo Jesus by calling him good, so that Jesus can embrace him and Jesus knew his heart, this propelled Jesus to ask him why he called him good, that no one is good except God.

I saw this verse, freaked out then came on youtube and I realised before this verse that the deciples told Jesus that they stopped a man who was praying in his name amd Jesus told them not to do that because that man is for them and even if anyone gives them a cup of water in his name they will be rewarded mark 9 :38...
When I read that I was like wow "could this man be like the first person to pray in Jesus name that was not a deciple" because it is later on in Jesus last prayer before the cruicifiction that he says we can pray in his name so this man really recodnised God and had something powerful about him to do it so much earlier before jesus made that prayer

My this claim proves me right in another way that for example in this video the speaker is saying that Jesus calls God 'only Good' because He (JESUS) is Good right? then in this way Only God is good. The other thing is that there are explicitly two objects in this verse, one is ME and the other is GOD
“Why do you call Me good? No one is good except God alone."
Here Jesus Christ peace be upon him clearly differentiates himself from GOD. If Jesus Christ peace be upon him was GOD himself then he would have only said that "No one is good except God alone." skipping the first phrase "Why do you call Me good?"

The meaning is different in that most Bibles are based on Vaticanus and Sinaiticus in the translation of Matthew 19:17 which you quote of while King James Version is based on the Textus Receptus. Thus Matthew did not change anything nor did Matthew and Mark contradict each other here.

Jesus here is saying "why do you call me good, only God is good" as in if you think I'm good, and only God is good, therefore that man must recognise that Jesus is God. Because only God is good, and Jesus here is being called good, therefore to recognise Jesus as God.

He didn’t say the commandments weren’t enough he said there is one thing your lacking implying that the commandments need to be kept to receive salvation. He also didn’t list the first commandment for good reason because he wasn’t keeping it.

At 3:54, guy in the video correctly states "He doesn't say I'm not good." Even so Jesus is implying that he is not good the way God is. You don't have to say something in so many words to get your point across. When Jesus questions the rich young ruler about calling him good, he's finding fault with that. The very next sentence explains what the fault is. The "scripture twisting" starts when people reject this natural interpretation and look for a different one. If you think this interpretation doesn't fit with other statements found in bible, you're right. There are lots of inconsistent statements in the gospels.

This passage again proved that Jesus is omniscient, and is part of the Elohim. Jesus knew he was facing a man with Self-Righteous Syndrome. The man thought that by keeping the laws he had made himself good. But no man is good except God. No man can make himself righteous except by God, who was standing in front of him. It's a tragic question by the man. In stead of asking what he must do, he should have just ask his Lord to grant him eternal life, and Jesus would probably grant the man's wish right there on the spot.

This is a verse that has stumped me for awhile because I saw it as Jesus saying that He is not good like the Father is… but I am now just so amazed to see that He was actually PROVING to be God by saying these things. I am a bit confused with this way of equating things.... Mark 10: 18 "why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone".... Its not the goodness that is the problem...Everybody knows Jesus is a good and a pious man. The problem here is Jesus has a distinct identity of God in his words. He calls God as good although calling himself good directly was an easier way of saying it. I know people will read my comments and start fighting with me but as a seeker of knowledge i have to understand this. Jesus keeps on saying things in a way where God is distinctly separate from him but later apologistics like Sam and David try to equate things like..... I don't see any corruption in dogma or corrupted teachings of Christianity by what you mention small minor variation in the text that can easily be reconciled by taking into account the other gospels mark and luke account combined to easily find out and know the actual truth. This is how natural historical textual analysis works. Even the many Qurans in history have these natural variations like Dr. Shabir Ally and Dr. Hamza says it's natural even for Quran. Here is my answer to that scripture. Told to me by the Holy Spirit. At the time when that man asked that question and Jesus replied why do you say I am good no one is good. It was because the man who asked that question did not recognized Jesus as God. The question he asked Jesus seem very mocking. we already know when Jesus answer questions he answer using parables and answer questions with questions. So the reason Jesus answered with a question is because that man did not see him as God he only see him as another prophet like Elijah this is why Jesus asked his decouples Matthew 16:13 “ who do people say I am” and his disciples responded some say your John some say you’re Elijah. So instead of Jesus exalting himself and responded he first stated that God in heaven is good when you know who you are you need not to prove anything. Jesus came from heaven to earth to teach us how to live for God not to be self praised on earth. Jesus know he who exalt himself shall be a base but he who humble himself shall be exalted.

Scripture twisting is the right name for this video. Jesus says no one is good except God and every good thing Jesus had was given from the father. Psalm 16:2, James 1:17, John 3:27 (to name a few). Jesus was good correct but He was good because God made Him good. Thats what Jesus was talking about no man is good only God. Again when the disciples asked Jesus who can enter. Jesus is correct to say by man it is not possible (including Him) but for God nothing is impossible. So if nothing is impossible for God. That would also imply that God can create a human, exalt Him, work through Him to Show his love for mankind. Jesus knows perfectly who He is. He is the bridge, channel, doorway for us to connect with God 1tim2:3-5.
If Jesus is good from what you said and God is good then Jesus is God.

If the point of the quote is Jesus asking the man if he knows he's God just because he called him good, then it makes Jesus look incredibly paranoid, particularly in the context of the rest of Mark where he's always telling people not to tell everyone he's the Messiah
It's pretty obvious if you just understand that the title "Good Teacher" was never applied to other Rabbis in Jesus' day, like No where in the Talmud. So Jesus and the others around him hearing this would know the implications of such a title. Jesus is saying do you really know what it means for you to call me that? Following me is the way to eternal life, I am that One.

1. If you follow the Quran you can’t accept this verse as saying Jesus is not good because in the Quran, Jesus is absolutely and essentially good from conception (surah 19:19). So this contradicts Islam AND contradicts Jesus’ own words in the Gospels. Stop embarrassing yourselves unwisely choosing to eisegete this verse.
2. Getting to the verse itself, in Mark 10:18, Jesus does not say “I’m not good”. Jesus says “Why do you call Me good?” As in, “Do you really understand My identity?” There’s a big difference. Taking this further, Jesus does call Himself good when He says “I am the good shepherd” in John 10:11. Also, in Mark 10 (the same chapter where Jesus says why do you call me good), Jesus does claim to be God. Verse 26, the people asked “then who can actually be saved?”. In Verse 27, Jesus answered “with men it is impossible, but not with God. For all things are possible with God.” In verse 45 of the same chapter, Jesus says “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.””
This aligns with psalm 45:7-9 “Truly no man can ransom another, or give to God the price of his life, for the ransom of their life is costly and can never suffice, that he should live on forever and never see the pit.” You see? So no human being can offer the price of redemption for a single human soul so they continue to live forever.
And finally, psalm 49:15 “But God will ransom my soul from the power of Sheol, for he will receive me. Selah.” So Jesus, doing what no man is capable of doing, is doing what only God can do in ransoming our soul from the power of Sheol, demonstrating He is God.

Okay guys so I've been a Christian my whole life and not a good one (no pun intended). So I'm reading through the Bible right now, but I'm a little older now and have been really taking my time to try and understand exactly what's going on and I was reading like an hour ago in Luke I believe and it was chapter 18 somewhere. Jesus says (paraphrasing because I'm not in my room with my Bible right now) only God is good. I'm so confused, how can there be a Trinity with equal parts Father, Son, Holy Spirit when Jesus literally just said only God is good? So am I understanding this correctly when I'm taking this at face value and it sounds like Jesus just said he isn't God because he said he isn't good? I literally don't know how else to interpret this. Is the trinity a false doctrine? Can someone please share your thoughts and tell me I'm crazy?

God is the omnipotent, omnipresent and omniscient. God has three entities but one God. The WORD of God is in God and is God. The Spirit of God is in God and is God. The Word and Spirit of God is in God to form One God. The Word of God and Spirit of God can be with God and it also can go anywhere to perform the bidding of God. Hence God is the param atma with His Word and Spirit. This is known as the Trinity. Three entities in ONE GOD.
An example of the sun will clarify this aspect. The sun has two other elements viz. Heat and light. The heat of the sun and its light and the sun together is not three sun, but one sun. Just like the Word of God and Spirit of God and God is one God. Three entities but ONE GOD. The heat and light of the sun, is in the sun and yet at the same time can manifest on earth or any other place. Similarly the Word and Spirit of God is with God and at the same time manifest anywhere, but all these three make only ONE God.
Another example to show that three entities forms One God is the three sides of a triangle to form one triangle. Even if one side is missing, it cannot be called a triangle. These are simple examples for understanding and cannot be considered otherwise.
God created the universe, the angles and all other creation including human beings through His Word. He spoke and it was done. The book of Genesis clearly states this. The angles and human being have the spirit of God, which is also referred as the soul. The angels and human beings have a free will to choose.Even to disobey God. However the law of God says, disobedience to God's command is sin and the punishment for sin is death. The death of the soul, eternal death.
Lucifer and some of his angles revolted against God, when God made man the steward of creation. God threw Satan and his fallen angels on to the earth where they rule now. The law will judge them and their punishment will be eternal death in hell. That judgment is yet to come.
Satan swore to destroy man, Gods favorite creation and for this he tempted Adam and Eve and caused them to sin. They disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit from the tree of knowledge. Adam and eve were also thrown into this world, where satan was already shunted from heaven. They will also face judgment.
Result of their disobedience will be death of body and soul and hell.
Law was same for humans and for Satan and his followers. However Satan revolted against God by his own free will, fully knowing the consequences and was not tricked by anyone, but Adam and Eve were tricked by Satan.
God therefore in His wisdom promised a MASSIAH who would save human beings from this judgment. Since human beings had disobeyed God, humans must face the judgment and punishment.
One man who is sinless and a human being, can die to redeem all humankind. He would be the Messiah.
Since God had promised this messiah, God had to provide. In order to have such a person, the Word of God, which is God, had to incarnate as a human being ( first chapter from the Gospel of John), because only a sinless human being's death, can fulfill the law and redeem humankind from the punishment of the law.
Two thousand years ago, the word of God became man. The man was born to a virgin woman, by the overshadowing of the holy spirit of God, who is also God, third person from the Trinity. Jesus was therefore born as perfect God, because He is the incarnation of the Word of God, and perfect man born to a woman,as all humans are born. Since Jesus was born of the Holy Spirit, Jesus became the Son of God, as He was begotten by God and not created. This incarnate Word of God was given the title of Son of God, as a human being. Jesus was God because He is the Word incarnate and also human Son of God, because he was son of Mary, a human being. Therefore He was a perfect and sinless human being and perfect God.
The two entities of Jesus in one human body.
Once this is clear, you will have no confusion of the divinity of Jesus.
During the lifetime of jesus He projected Himself both as man with human qualities and as God, revealing divine qualities. Both these personalities are distinct and can be projected according to the circumstances.
That is why Jesus claim divinity with God, being the Word of God and at other times jesus projected Himself as human, who is totally dependent on God.
He is the Messiah, with one sole mission of taking all sins of humankind and die on the cross. The salvation of humankind. Once Jesus died for all sins, the judgment of the Law was fulfilled against all humanity. God from the seat of judge, where He earlier was, became the Father of humankind, just like He was to Adam and eve, before they disobeyed God.
The biblical sayings of Jesus must be seen in this light, as to who is speaking and the context, or else we will misunderstand the Bible. When you see the context, you will see both the human and divine aspect of Jesus clearly.
For example jesus was tempted by the devil, Mathew chapter 4 verses 1 to 11., jesus felt hungry and thirsty. It was the human Jesus, who was tempted and not the divine Jesus. Human jesus had fear of death, as we see His prayers in the garden of Gethsemane. The human Jesus knew He would be forsaken, because jesus the word of God, being God cannot die. Hence Jesus the human is destined to die for the sins of humankind. That was the mission of Jesus the Messiah.
Gospel of Mark chapter 14 verses 32 onwards, Jesus the human being was destined to be crucified. Hence jesus the God had to forsake the human jesus, to go for crucifixion as a human jesus. That is why we hear jesus crying out from the cross to God, asking why he was forsaken. Gospel of Mark chapter 15 verses 33 onwards, God knows that jesus the human must pay the price to liberate mankind.
Alternatively we see the divine nature of Jesus in His miracles, especially the healing of the paralytic man ,Mathew chapter 9 verses one onwards. Here Jesus says, take heart my son, your sins are forgiven. Only God can forgive sin. By this act of forgiving sin, Jesus show His divinity. It is the Word of God in Jesus that was speaking and workingall the miracles we readin the Bible. Further Jesus had said I and the Father are one. Here Jesus the divine Word of God is speaking, because Word of God, Spirit of God and God the Father is one. Similarly when Jesus said if you have seen me, you have seen the Father. Here too Jesus the Word incarnate is speaking, because the Word of God and the Spirit of God is one with the Father God.
Further the act of Jesus cleansing the temple, Mathew chapter 21 verses 12 onwards. The turning of tables of money changers in Jerusalem temple. Chasing the traders of doves and other sacrificial animals, would under normal circumstances be a sin, If jesus the human had done this. The beating of traders and destroying property of money changers or Jesus calling the phrases a brood of vipers, hippocrites would be sinful acts.These acts would be sinful for human Jesus, but these acts are not sinful, for Jesus the Word of God, who has the divine authority to punish.
So the distinction is clear, of Word of God Jesus, as God, who could do all these acts but human Jesus doing them would be sinful.
The God Jesus was all powerful. We see
that nature and its law obeying God Jesus. These acts tells us about divinity of Jesus, being the Word of God. The separate identity of Jesus, the Word of God and human Jesus is clear, although both the divine and human jesus are in one body.
However, we have seen the human Jesus was forsaken by the Word of God, when He was arrested in the garden of Gethsemane. John chapter 18 verses 4 onwards. The Word of God distanced itself from human Jesus. This was necessary because It was the human jesus who was to be crucified and die for all mankind to fulfill the Law and the judgment, thereby redeeming all mankind. When Jesus said I am He, to the people who came to arrest Jesus, those people drew back and fell to the ground. This was because divine Jesus had that power. After that point onwards, we see the separation, Jesus the human being, went as human Messiah for His crucifixion.
When that mission was over, and Jesus died on the cross, God the Father shifted Himself from being a judge, to again being the Father, as the Law was fulfilled.

What reason do you have to call me good?
-“there is none good”
No human being is good past/present/future we are all sinners.
-“but”
There’s an exception to that.
-“one”
One specific human being that will/has walked this earth.
-“that is God”
This being will be God dwelling in the body of a man.
So Jesus asks “Are you saying I am the one good human being who will be Immanuel: “God with us”? The Messiah?”
If you read from the Bible, reread Messianic prophecies and the New Testament and you’ll understand exactly what was in the body of the sinless virgin-born Nazarene who was crucified in order that through repentance and faith in him we may inherit his sinless blood.

Jesus DID NOT say, the man had to come follow him. If he had meant that he would not have said "Sell your possessions, give the poor and you will have treasure in heaven, and then come follow me." He would have said "Sell your possessions, give to the poor, come follow me and you will have treasure in heaven. It's this guy twisting the scripture, not the critics. BTW: I'm a naturalist/pantheist, not muslim or atheist.
Think about this" Let's say a reporter approached a ball player and said "Skipper what are we gonna do to win the next game." and the ballplayer answered: "Why do you call me skipper? Only the team captain is called skipper." You would instantly infer that the ballplayer is not the captain and that he knew he was not the captain. Why do Christians not infer from what Jesus said that he is not God and knows he is not God? The only reason I can think why they would not infer that from the passage is because they believe that Jesus is God and of course knew he was God and so must have meant something else. However, many non fundamentalist Biblical scholars agree that Jesus most likely did not consider himself to be God and that his earliest followers did not consider him to be God. As such, the most sensible reading of the text in question is that indeed Jesus was inferring that he was not God. He never says the man would inherit eternal life by following him. He clearly says that obeying the commandment and having compassion on the poor rather than hoarding wealth are enough. "Come follow me" is tagged on after establishing that.
To be fair, you are also being biased in your interpretation in the sense that you assume that he couldn't have been talking about himself. However, I agree with you. Reading that passage, there is no way to interpret it as Jesus saying he is God. The average person, without ever reading the Bible, would think that Jesus is saying he isn't God. If my name were X and someone called me Y, my reaction would indeed be to ask, "why are you calling me Y?" However, I don't think that shows that X isn't equal to Y. The problem is with people saying that Jesus is saying he's God instead of admitting that it's at best ambiguous. I obviously believe that Jesus is God, so I believe he was saying that he is God. However, that's entirely on my reading of the other parts of the Bible.

It makes NO sense that Eshu would chastise someone for the use of "good" to describe someone, as in Mathi 12:35 he used it in his teaching ( taba gabra ). Also in the same teaching, treasure is neither morally good nor evil. The more correct translation would have been "storehouse". The rich man, would more likely have used the word "great". The Galilean words for good and great, are very similar in spelling and vocalization. A scribe could have very easily erred in the translation. The use of "great" would make more sense for Eshu to chastise the young man, as only MarYah is great! Also of note is, the root meaning of the Galilean words for "good", was "ripe" and "evil" was "unripe" ( see Mathi 7:17). The word "saphiyr" was also used for "delightful", "pleasing" and "good". Arar Akhbar!
