Interestingly, the intro of the bullet 16L laptop & gr2 26L have made the standard GR1 obsolete for me. The gr2 26L is essentially the same height and width dimensions as a gr1 21L just with added depth.
I would totally agree! If I were to shop for it brand new I would not go for gr1. I just so happen to find this used at a discounted price I couldn't refuse so it was my entry into Goruck.
Awhile ago I got the GR2 for a get home bag. Though the bag was quite pricey, it is built well and American made. Unfortunately, after trying it out, the lack of water bottle pockets on the exterior is becoming a big drawback for me. I feel like the hunt for the ultimate bag never ends.
There are, and I have both, and I've got to be honest. The holders themselves are fine, work fine but they are terrible when attached. Floppy, loose, ugly and awkward. I am on the hunt for a solid solution but the rest of the bag is a dream.
Some Gorucks are made in Vietnam, the quality is there but a lot of people buy them for the made in the USA pride. The quality and guarantee is the same for life.
I am still on the search for a decent water bottle solution. I was at 5.11 and saw they had some pouches but they were $48 each!! Insanity. If I find something, I will make a video on it since I know this is a pretty hot topic for those who love the GoRuck bags.
Oh nice! the 34L looked pretty large. I don't know if I have enough stuff to travel with it to fill all that space. When I use my Cotopaxi Alpa 35, it is so empty every time I travel with it. I feel like 21-28 Liters is my travel sweet spot but have had good luck with my Bullet so far on my overnight trips. I have had good luck with Vangquest products int he past. A few pouches, and a messenger bag. Not much experience with their backpacks but if they are like their other gear, it'll serve you very well. What advantage do you see with the Vanquest bag that you don't have with GoRuck? Outside zip pockets? or something else?
I am still using it for everything. Travel, EDC, soon to use it for baby bagness as well. I LOVE it still. What do you carry in your EDC using this bag?

I believe there are 2 styles of water bottle holder attachment you can buy from goruck that you can attach it to the side of your backpack.

I have a 21L Rucker (which doesn’t have the laptop cptmt) & a 34L GR2. I’m looking into a Vanquest javelin 18L good stuff!
