Makes me happy to see this car and that someone is gonna own this gem, but also sad that we will never get a car like this made again. First they get rid of Concorde, then they came for the V8's 😢
Glad you got one! Im about to tackle the valve cover gaskets on mine, hopefully before the alternator gets killed by oil because replacing that seems even more challenging. Best engine ever but builds a lot of heat and turns seals, gaskets, and plastic wire looms so brittle. Gatta take care of this rare car because it drives (and accelerates) like a dream! 2010 s80 v8
I'm so pleased I went back to Volvo. I had a 2005 SE D5 manual for 5 years and loved it immensely but it was letting me down in the end with repair bills. My first Swedish/Belgian car. 180,000 miles when I sold it and it's still going at 200,000 as I checked on its mot and tax history. Then changed to a 2014 diesel Honda Civic estate. My first Japanese/English car - assembled in Swindon!) Great car and clever design but no soul and no magic to it, for me anyway. Flimsy interior plastics. No get up and go and just didn't tickle my pickle. Had it 2 years and it was just "Ok". Now gone back to Volvo with a V60 D3 R-design and I'm so chuffed that the quality I was used to with the S60 I owned 9 years previous, hasn't been lost at all in the V60. Still a 5 cylinder and makes a very similar noise to the D5. Obviously lower on power but rapid in 1st, 2nd and 3rd
16:34 sounds like the battery is running low when started. But with mileage that low I can’t imagine it’s been used much. When it fires up it sounds amazing.
I had one of these for a while as my daily driver - 2007 model with 51k on the clock. The all-in costs to run it (tax, insurance,, fuel & main dealer service) worked out at about £180 per month during my ownership. I thought that was pretty good value. Much as it was surprisingly roomy and practical, i needed more load lugging capacity so had to change for an xc60. I still miss the V8, though.
Bought a 2007 in January this year with 110000 K’s (69000 miles). Couple of minor issues with a leaking radiator and needs a steering pump rebuild (I’ll fit both new items) A sumptuous car with a unique sounding V8……Being a Volvo fan, had to have this over a more traditional V8. It’s quite rare in Australia and most people, even car people don’t know it exists. To be used frugally and kept well as it is ‘different’ 😎👍
I have to disagree! You can't move a fridge freezer or a double bed in the S80. The XC90 V8 Executive 7 seater is the best Volvo ever... The ultimate Volvo! I know because I have one...
My T6 is one of the weirdest optioned S80’s I’ve seen. Has the winter package (heated rear seats, heated mirrors, heated windshield washer nozzles), which is useful in NY, but it was originally sold in Virginia. It has BLIS and the electronic rear headrests, but doesn’t have any other parking sensors optioned or the phone option.
@@aydenu9057 Oh okay. BLIS is quite common by itself on later ones. Though 2008 cars were recession cars so they usually have strange package. The phone option was standard 2010+. The folding headrests was standard on all P3 Sedans. Climate package is so common, it is rare that a car would not have it.
@@connorPiper0 ahhh that makes more sense that due to the recession that its kinda bare bones packaged. Although I'm pretty sure DriveLife's D5 doesn't have folding headrests, so maybe its a NA package that all P3 cars have the folding headrests? I still think it's a little goofy that people optioned BLIS before parking sensors.
@@aydenu9057 I believe that parking sensors were part of a package, while BLIS was al la carte. Also S80s were less likely to have parking sensors over the XC70/V70. Not sure why.
Good stuff mate. I just learned few weeks ago about the issues with the ballance shaft bearings from the early V8 engines. And got me thinking oopss..My 2005 XC90 might be cursed? But I´ve had it since 2016 and no problems. Already 190k miles on the clock. Well lets just say the bearings were busted years ago if it was cursed. Maybe mine left the factory late that year - after they fixed it.. who knows? Cheers.
FYI - (disclaimer stopped video before end to comment) - I have same setup up my V70. With keyless entry. Pull handle to unlock. Press black button to lock. But you don't need to put the key in the dash either its Keyless drive - just have your key on you. Foot on brake pedal press start button - she'll start up 👍 Anyway… back to the video I go…
ULEZ compliant doesn't surprise me. The engine was designed for Californian emissions regulations (and was the first V8 to meet them). Maybe not great by modern standards but very clean for its time in many respects. It's worth thinking about economy/CO2 (which aren't great for this engine) and other emissions (which are surprisingly good).
I actually see a v8 s80 for sell when I was looking for a s80 I only turned it down because of the tax and mpg now with the ULEZ I should of got that instead 🤨
Had one.. immensely pleasurable to drive, however it’s very expensive flaws lay in waiting. The cross member under the engine is its greatest and most expensive flaw. Unless you live in the most arise of places on earth. The cross member was deigned well but the down pipe of the exhaust runs an inch or so from the frame and over time cooks off the paint and any of its protection to the bare metal. This resulted in holes eventually in the frame rendering it unsafe until repaired or replaced sometimes costing over 5k to repair. Then there’s the valve cover replacement nightmare getting over 5 hours of labor just to get to them involving jacking the motor. Then there’s the idler pulley which Houdini would have a problem wedging into that access point. Aside from those poor designs , it is a fantastic sedan with gobs of power for a heavy car. Unfortunately most will pay the cost of the purchase twice over to get it safe . So sad
Me and a colleague of mine broke one of those engines while they were prototypes. It cost Volvo around 100.000 £ back then. Including travel costs for some Japanese dudes coming to Sweden for emissions tests. If anyone's interested I can tell the full story.
I’ve been seriously considering that S80 in Slough. It’s the last year of the V8 and it looks unbelievable, with the best spec (cooled/heated seats, analog clock , executive crests etc). Currently has no MOT since January but what mainly put me off was the advisory of integral corrosion for the past two years:( I’m still very much umming and ahhing
Its a good engine but not great. Starter design is terrible and requires you to remove half of the stuff just to get it out and to top it all off, its pricey. Aftermarket parts are highly not recommended. Usually there are problems with the AWD systems (more often on the XC90 and the troublesome AW55 gearbox). I think Volvo nailed it with the 3.0 T6 in terms of speed and reliability. But if you want the absolute reliability - the 3.2 cant be beaten.
@@antoniowrobel7158 I had a tensioner pulley seize up on my wife and it broke the mounting stud off the front of the timing case cover. $3500 to replace but you get the valve cover gaskets and intake gaskets replaced at the same time which do have a tendency to leak as the miles pile up. T6's are for those that couldn't find a V8. Nice car but nothing like the sound of the V8. I have a cat back sport exhaust on ours. My only issue I've never been able to solve is the variable ratio steering. It steers like a truck in parking lots and I suspect it's stuck in the high speed mode where little effort is needed. Dealer can't figure it out and I'm tired of throwing money at it. Wife is used to it now and has stopped complaining so all is good. Oh, she seems to have a knack on curbing wheels and I'm on my fourth set on the S80.

Definitely low battery powerage…
This guy could sell sand to sheiks! Awesome review.
I would own that in a heartbeat
Stunning S80! Just looking around for one to use it for chauffeuring. This would be ideal👌🏻
Thanks for the video, I own a V8 S80 myself but that Executive spec is amazing

Virtually the same trim as my 2.4d same cream and black interior. Mine has cooled seats but missing the head phones and heated seats rear. Great cars.

There is a V8 S80 on autotrader at the time of this comment. 2007, one owner from new, 33k on the clock, £8995 location Glasgow. 😊

Lovely video man!!!! Thank you
I remember seeing this one on auto trader, better tell the seller that "timing belt has been changed" doesn't make much sense 😂
It sounds a lot better when you floor it, and not just revs it.
Awesome!
Lancia Thema 8.32 V8.Transverersely mounted.I have seen one of them and I own a Volvo SS80 V 8.
My Cadillac also has a transverse mounted V8 4.6 L. I don’t know about how it’s angle though.
ULEZ compliant as well which makes no sense
Agreed. I have to pay to drive my 1.1 litre Rover 200 through London, but I could drive a 5.0 V8 Range Rover through no problem!
ULEZ doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. 2003 2.5 Z4 is ulez friendly but a 120d isn’t nor was my 1.6d Volvo v70 but £30 a year tax.

ULEZ is to cut down on particulates, not CO2
How come this is an Exec spec. but it has no analog clock in the center of the dash?
shame they’re so hard to acquire. im from the states and closest one near me is a 6 hour drive

Yes, a fantastic car, but I noticed every time you started the vehicle it was very slow on turnover !!! battery starter motor ??
They tend to start slower anyway due to the size of the engine, and the first start the car had been sitting for over a week :)
