    The whole world runs on tech. Everyone buys goods and services from the qqq companies. These are 100 of the biggest best run companies in the world. They have no debt tons of cash great products and operate in virtual monopolies. One can't put together a better portfolio. You don't invest in the past but in the future. 2021 is a lot different world then 1999.
    No brainier portfolio buy and hold 50% SPY 50% QQQ. This portfolio, over time, will out perform most managed portfolios.

    If you only had a few hundred to spread around and add a few bucks every month, would you put $100 in qqq? Or is there a better/equal etf? Thanks. I’m ok with risk, just don’t want to put money into two etfs that are essentially the same in risk and returns/growth potential or basically have the same holdings.

    QQQ strikes me as excellent for holding for growth when retirement is 15-20 years away, though since its a strong options platform, hanging onto QQQ as we approach retirement and switching our strategy on the ETF from growth to income by writing the wheel might be the way to go?

      I can't access my Roth for 35 years, so I choose QQQ over an SP500 index for it's long term higher growth potential. Big tech has sooo much cash right now, I want to load up on those companies- Apple has 95B of FCF and MSFT is raising divs and doing 60B in buybacks. QYLD and QYLG efts use covered calls on QQQ shares to return monthly income.

      IIRC, some people called it “cubes” or “qubes” in the early days (maybe they still do) because of the three Qs. I first bought QQQ in the late 90s and never sold despite the tech bubble bursting, and have the returns you talked about (I can’t claim being any genius, though. I also owned Microsoft and Amazon separately and sold those while I also should have held on). Good video.

      Totally your call! But as far as a return, even 1 share will return the same percentage, of course the more money you have in a portfolio gives it more room to grow by the mathematics of it all, but if you only have $5, $10, or the cost of 1 share available to invest, it's not a reason to not consider investing (not direct financial advice).

    QQQ isn't bad per se, but there are other growth ETFs that have outperformed it on cheaper expense ratios like VGT.

    • @91wheelz
      @91wheelz Рік тому

      I heard this argument yesterday. I understand buying into an ETF that performs similarly or better with a lower expense ratio, it would be silly not to but a 0.20% expense ratio isn't terrible either. QQQ is cheaper than VGT though; I just wonder what the differential is in terms of math, are they equal or is one better?

    • @jackcarraway4707
      @jackcarraway4707 Рік тому +2

      @@91wheelz The overall stock price isn't really the number to look at; rate of return and expense ratios are more important to consider. The type of ETF is big as well.
      VGT has a cheaper expense ratio and stronger returns, but being a sector ETF it's inherently riskier. Literally half of it is Apple and Microsoft. The tech industry is notoriously volatile.
      SCHG doesn't have as strong returns as QQQ or VGT, but it has a dirt cheap expense ratio that won't eat into your gains as much.
      It all boils down to preferences in all honesty. There's nothing wrong with being willing to pay a higher expense ratio (like you said, a 20% expense ratio isn't bad at all) to get stronger returns. On the flipside, you shouldn't get FOMO if you opt to save money on the expense ratio. There's a lot of personal economics that goes on with investing.

    • @BobSharpe
      @BobSharpe  3 роки тому +3

      Not financial advice: It's all about that long-term hold as I see it versus short-term timing the market (buy low sell high). Especially in a Roth or typical IRA, even when we had prior all-time market highs, we definitely did see a drop or "market correction" occur which was annoying to see the portfolio in the red, but as time ticked on, the market and S&P 500 trend has continued to grow on an overall average growth of 10% per year. So even with the high, and potential drawback coming, long-term we should hope to see the continued average as we have over the last 60++ years.

      Expensive is a really interesting idea with investing and trying to determine how to know if a thing is expensive is not as simple as it’s gone up in share price. Anyways, the market is very often at all time highs and time in the market is more valuable than timing the market.

    QQQ is great and seems to outperform SPY consistently...
    So, it seems like a great long-term buy& hold.
    But, what if there are other stocks that consistently [long-term] have out-performed even QQQ, should you make up your portfolio of those things instead? Now, maybe it'll just be a subset of QQQ stocks, possibly with some other things not in QQQ, or whatever? Or missing some things that QQQ owns as its underlying stocks... But, would it outperform QQQ long-term? Would it be "riskier" due to it being a smaller pool of "underlying" stocks vs. QQQ which surveys the broader market and holds a bigger basket of stocks, and potential volatility could erase gains more easily if any of them under-performs [even if they've historically out-performed and been generally good long-term buy&hold-ers]?
    I've been watching all kinds of dividend investing videos and looking at the comments for others' suggestions, and putting their tickers [if they look interesting] into a "speculative" portfolio in Seeking Alpha, to look back at them over time...Then I go into Portfolio Visualizer or Seeking Alpha "charting" and kind of do some comparative "best of" / "survival of the fittest" graphing to see which stocks or ETFs appear to "outperform" other stocks, typically using QQQ & SPY as the "baseline" of comparison.
    So, like, I'll put in QQQ as the baseline, SPY for comparison, and then like 2 other tickers, and see where they fall, above, below, or in between SPY & QQQ over various time periods, YTD, 1yr, 3 years, 5 years, 10 years, and see which seem to regularly outperform on the longer scales of 3-10+ years, but also have okay performance in the current last 3 years of COVID-related recession. And those I kind of sort into a "best of" portfolio, so I can refer back to them over time more specifically.
    So, I guess my question is, can you game the market this way, a bit, assuming past performance gives some idea of future performance (I know, it doesn't rigorously, but it's at least an indicator of overall quality, if there's good capital appreciation, good dividend growth, or at least not dividend cuts, etc.)...
    Would be interesting to see you do a deep dive on that kind of mindset, to see if maybe picking your own stonks can potentially outperform even the indexes [which are clearly "gold standard" at present]?
    I'll give some examples (some are obvious, some are not, or at least not well known or regularly talked about):
    AAPL (Apple)
    DHR (Danaher Corporation)
    EXR (Extra Space Storage; surprisingly "wow!" growth, vs. QQQ?)
    HASI (Hannon Armstrong Sustainable Infrastructure)
    HD (Home Depot; pretty "wow!" vs. QQQ on growth over the last 10-12 years)
    KNSL (Kinsale Capital Group; fairly "wow!" vs. QQQ on growth over last ~6 years)
    LLY (Eli Lilly and Company)
    LOW (Lowe's Companies)
    MED (Medifast; wow! that growth over the last 10 year!)
    MSFT (Microsoft)
    Now, the various stocks here will also look a bit different when one looks at their monthly dividend incomes. Some are 'better' or 'worse' than others. So, one might ask if, between some of these, putting together a basket of high performers (capital appreciation in excess of QQQ) that *also* have relatively higher dividend yield and/or higher dividend growth rate, might further "out perform" by not only giving a higher capital appreciation but better long-term dividend monthly income at the end-point?

      What other really good stocks that regularly outperform QQQ on Capital Appreciation long-term by a large margin [and maybe also have good dividend yield and/or dividend growth rate], might be good to add into the "survival of the fittest" competition running?
