Thanks for another great video! I had the recall done last Wednesday (dealer did not even know about it yet). And even though I installed the Trashin' skid plate two months ago, there was already some slight rubbing visible on the harness. So apart from the extra zip tie they also added some extra wiring tube around the wiring part that was touching the engine case. No troubles yet, so I think problem fixed. A small issue but with huge risks....
Glad you were able to catch it before it became a serious problem, we’ll go through a few of these issues and then have dialed in bikes that are seriously leaps and bounds better than the previous generation in terms of riding and handling!🙌
Took my bike 24 street glide in for my 1k service last week , they did the recall fix for me and updated my infomatinment aswell for me , no longer have issues with my speakers now either
As a former wiring engineer the design rule is to add 10% longer wire than is needed. This adds a safety factor for bends and assembly process. I wonder if they are trying to reduce cost at the expense of quality again?
Had mine inspected yesterday, my voltage regulator wire harness was not rubbing but they added a ziptie to prevent potential in the future. Took less than 20 minutes at my local HD.
I just installed a skid plate to cover that area underneath those cables. If I had known, I would have taken a closer look at them while I was down there.
It’s good to know they are on top of things and not hiding it like you said . A simple fix but in the long run a nightmare like you had to deal with on the side of the road . Let me guess on the new upgrade ! Headlights ???
I went to my dealer and he said HD is going to send and extension to the harness so it can be re-routed in a safer way. The part should arrive around October 14th.
Just a Zip Tie fix for my SG. 45-minute service. Every vehicle and motorcycle I've had that is first year new gen had recalls. You want to be first with the new toy you will have recalls.
The recall kit isn’t the zip tie it’s a kit to repair harnesses that have chafing. Which, I would think that if the wiring actually chafed and grounded to the engine case, you would possibly have other damage.
Surprised Harley actually recalled a faulty design. I was one of the 100’s of thousands that bought a 2017-early 2019 Touring model with a bad oil pump/cam plate design. Motors were sumping, causing damage in all, some to the point of failure. Not one touring model went unaffected, even if you never felt/saw a symptom. Owners had to go to HD or the aftermarket to correct a bad HD design.
Zip tie is not the recall it’s from preventing damage. The part that Harley is talking about is a new piece of wire with a connector that is longer than the original which has to be cut and removed and soldered back in with new one. If they changed your wire harness which is probably the same as the original one. Chances are that you still might have the same issue of that red wire being short and rubbing. You might need the new piece of wire kit. My CVO ST doesn’t rub but Harley is going to replace it with new wire as that wire is very short and not enough play to zip tie it without risk of unplugging or damaging the wire.
Interesting! I’ve spoken to multiple folks who have had their’s done already, they say the repair, if no chafing in the wire, is just the zip tie. They are only replace the wire if it is already damaged.
@@OffWeekGarage Sorry if you misunderstood. Yes they will replace that particular wire if it’s getting damaged with a different longer one. but in my case for some reason even though the wire is not damaged they didn’t want to zip tie it because they think that it could potentially get unplugged or damaged that way.
I've received my RG in september in Italy and it was made beetwen May and July in Thailand and isnt affected by this problem so...I think that Harley know this issue long time before of this recall...
I am on a 2019 road king special, and a 2006, 1200 sportster. I didn’t buy either the bikes brand new I’m the second owner of one and a third owner of another. In the meantime looking for a third bike . I’m beginning to seriously doubt that Harley‘s gonna be selected. Been looking at the new BMW RK 18 transcontinental. I’d like to get some thing I can drive from state to state, but I cannot afford to be stuck on the side of the road, looking for a bag of zip ties to fix the problem.
@@grgygantz6760 this is a regular occurrence with all manufacturers whether power sports, automotive, etc. First year models have these kinks that aren’t found during presale testing, they get ironed out and they are a damn good motorcycle after that. We saw the same with the Rushmore style RG’s. I enjoy sharing all that goes on with my bike but my intent is NOT to dissuade anyone from buying one of these new bikes. I recommend you test ride one!🙌
@@OffWeekGarage But lets be honest. All new releases have faults but there are 6 acknowledged by HD faults with the glide alone in a new released bike. Not normal by any means. Replacing the entire wiring harness is not a kink. Its profit over quality thinking.
I have a 2024 harley street bob that I bought in july. And it randomly shut off on me. Twice! I took it to the dealership, they finally got it figured out. I'm not sure if the recall is how they fixed it or if they just found the problem, but they just said that it was a continuity break between the voltage regulator and the battery. I'm not sure if they truly fixed it, or if they jerry rigged it.
You’ve experienced it first hand I felt bad. I saw your segment on this when you started having issues. I’m happy to know it’s all fixed and you’re back on the road. I have the 2024 CVO RG ST, do you think my bike may be affected with this problem? Thanks for the update and awesome content you put out. 🤙🏽
Text flashes on your video that only 9 field issues have been found? If true, I think most of us are safe until we can get the recall closed at a dealer. Mine was good but I found another smaller wire against then oil filter housing and my horn wire shielding looks a little chaffed. I zip tied both but will report those to the dealer.
Yes, only 9 field reports from Harley service dept’s sending them off to Corporate. But, vibration is the biggest killer of electrical components in applications like this, so I think with time and the issue unsolved, the number of field reports would go up, so I recommend to everyone to give it a once over!
@@OffWeekGarage It’s pretty crowded behind the voltage regulator. Wires and harnesses are bent and crammed in. This may not be the last of this. I feel like the voltage regulator should be spaced out a bit at the mounting points to give some extra room.
Hey man. Love the channel. I have the same bike as you. I had a triangle light come on. Ecm code P06930 fan circuit relay. Did you get this when you were having your electrical gremlin's? Bike ran fine today for almost 100 mile ride. Just curious if this was the start of the current recall you're talking about. Thanks!
I got the triangle light, but mine showed up as a cam sensor failure code, that was due to the misfire caused by the short to ground, not an actual issue with the cam sensor or cam sensor wiring. The cam sensor was reading correctly, seeing the irregularity in running parameters due to what was going on with the bike dying/shutting off or misfiring. Modern cars and bikes CEL’s and warnings are not like old fashioned obd2 stuff from the 90’s.
The wire I showed at about 3/4 of the way through the video, follow it up behind the radiator, or check out the recall, HD goes into great detail of where and how to repair!
It’s a simple zip tie repair, if that wire on your bike isn’t already damaged. Unfortunately for you, the damage was already done. The wiring harnesses are NOT defective. It’s a routing issue. These are the trials and tribulations of buying the 1st year of a new model.
Easy repair did mine. just get loom, sleeve, wire cover of your choosing to ensure no future rubbing. zip tie. done. Then go online and buy a skid plate to protect under sider of radiator/hoses. If you have damage DO NOT soldier and electric tape! Stupid ass advice! if you cant fix it right take it to dealer
Oh Wow ! 😮 why would anybody buy a Harley ? 🤔 ( fair question ? 🤔 ) Shouldn’t they have tested their bikes before putting them on the market ??? 🤔 especially with the prices they charge ?? 🤔
@@eddiebenzz They did test them, but only time, thousands of miles and vibration can weed out things like electrical harnesses rubbing in weird places on a motorcycle. Fair question? Sounds like a stupid question. Why would anybody buy a Toyota? Shouldn't they have tested their trucks before they realized they had to recall 100k units because of defective engines?
