T-grind is my friend. The hard ground and cement bunkers here in AZ almost requires one.

Just got fitted into the sm10 58* K and genuinely couldn’t believe how much better it was compared to my Mizuno T20 56 10* (off a mat and turf during the fitting). I’ve not played a round of golf with it so not counting my chickens quite yet but it felt so easy compared to what I’m used to. Went 58 instead of 56 as my highest loft so I don’t need to be opening the face. Also off a tight lie, I pulled the ball slightly back in my stance and it still worked a treat. (3 weeks wait time for the Raw finish … really excited!)
A little salt water will accelerate the change

Great video. Love the information. I love the K grind and you can totally open it and even use it even off tight lies. I also can hit it low and running. i think its much more versatile than you give it credit for
Having had a 58° (Low Bounce 06°) K Grind, I suggest you try "Opening" IT Less, and use Ball Position and Shaft Lean to Increase or Decrease Loft when playing from the Grass.
I just Replaced my 2017 58°-06° K Grind with an SM9 58°-04° T Grind.
Great insight. I have the Kirkland wedges as only been playing a year. Hit a great full shot on them, but open flat face an can thin a ball too easily even with a good swing. They have a wide sole and big bounce. I’m at the stage now where I need a proper wedge fitting
Story of my life. Absolutely love the Kirkland’s but my course has terrible bunkers with barely any sand. Nightmare when I’m in ‘em.

Same same. I got the Amazon wedge special and they are decent for anyone 10 or greater handicap. But if you start playing well you should step up and learn these. Good stuff.
@@thebikepackingadventurer as someone who took pride in their bunker game, it absolutely shook my confidence to the core. I swapped my hand-me-down Cleveland 588 60° back into the bag and it was like it’d never left. 56° and 52° Kirkland’s still deserve a spot in the bag though ✅
The Grind on the Kirklands is more suited to using Ball Position and Shaft Lean to Increase or Decrease Loft, rather than "twisting them Open" at Address. Try limiting how much you set it Open and either Play the Ball Forward, or Back in your Stance. Keeping your Hands in the same relative Position and Setting the Ball Position will Subtract or Add Shaft Lean, and thus Loft.
Love my 58 D 12. Even when conditions get firm in Texas, it is so functional. So good out of the rough as well.
How is it on full shots. I’m debating D or K for a 58.12 Was going to go with the 54 D 10 or 12 as well. I swing full a lot Kinda steep
@@lukel4552 I personally hit full shots well, but I’m more shallow than steep. If you can get a chance to try them out on some real grass I think that’s your best bet

K grind was named after Tom Kite. One of the best wedge players in history.
Is this true? Isn't there a TK grind also? Did they just shorten that to K?

Yep, Bob Vokey designed it for Kite, and with Tom Kite's input. (According to Bob)
All of Bob's "letter" grinds are a First or Last Initial of the Player who help develop that Grind.
"T" Grind belongs to Tom Pernice who had it done long ago, with the "T" always being a Special Order until this year.
Good info today; as it was when this video was originally published...it my memory serves me right. Wedge selection VERY, VERY, VERY important. Many golfer lack the correct setup and thus rob themselves of having the right tool given those shots from 115 yards and in. Understanding which wedge to use, in relation to the turf and lie of the ball, will result in successful shot to the hole.

I always think of the L as being for finessing lefty lob shots (Phil the thrill), where K is the alternative to it and is next to L in the alphabet to show they should be considered together. BTW, this was such a brilliant video, Titleist should be paying you for this content ! The resolution options were quite low (720p) on the video, don't know if that is me or what was uploaded.
I am playing the Mizuno T 22s. 48, 52-9 S, 56 -10 D and I have a 60-10 C if a course needs it.
Curious to hear how Mikey found the switch from 54-10-S, to 54-12-D?
I play in neutral to soft conditions and Cary a 62-08-M (that I love) and a 54-08-S but I find in the canadian spring and fall i could use a little more Bounce, in my 54 and am contemplating the switch myself to the 54-12-D

@@AdjusxtD Grind is the same as M Grind, however D is a 12° Bounce vs. M having 08° Bounce.
Simply an "M" for those who prefer or are better off with High Bounce.
I imagine he would find the 54° D preferable.
I play 54°-10° S and 58°-04° T in Southern California.
S is my go to when I have a softer Lie, longer Grass, or the Ball sits up some.
T is definitely for "Tight" and Hardpan/Firm.

I have Taylormade MG1 48, 54 and 60 wedges and really love them but am looking at moving to Vokeys. Which grind would be the most similar?
K grind - have you guys actually tried it properly? I’m a 3 handicap where short game is the stronger part of my game & have a 58 degree k grind - trust me it’s great in a whole range of situations if you commit to it

Scratch player with a 60° K grind in the bag here - for me, it's a specialist sand wedge and 'around the green' club.
How do you play the K-grind in the bunkers? Open face?
Combination of moving the Ball Position Forward to Reduce Forward Shaft Lean and slightly Opening the Face. You can still have a Moderate to Steep Delivery due to the Wide Sole and its Camber to keep you from Digging too deeply into the

I carried a 58°-06° "Low Bounce" K Grind for 5 years that I replaced with a 58°-06° T Grind.

Does the V grind fit between the M and the D?
M and D are the Same Grind.
D is a higher Bounce M.
I have a 54°-10° V Grind (SM6 vintage). It is a Combo. You can play it Square like a S Grind OR twist it Open like a M or a D with Extra Toe and Heel Relief ground off compared to M/D.
Not available in 54° now, so I just replaced my V with a SM9 54°-10° S.
I was using a 58°-06° (Low Bounce) K Grind and also replaced this with a SM9 58°-04° T.
I use a 58° more as a "High Loft" Pitching Wedge, and my 54° for Sand and poorer lies.

I kinda avoid Titleist wedges cause there are way too many options. I do not have access to fitters living here on Kauai, HI. Course here can be firm but they keep it soft and wet as u get closer to the green. Bunkers vary from one course to the next. Makes no sense that courses on an island surround by sand can have no sand but it happens. The when u go to another course, they have too much sand that feels light but plays heavy. Would you just get the F grind if you were me? Anyways, I just order 50 and 56 set at 55 in F grind and 60 in K grind. Hoping it works out.
by way of my fitting, 2-degrees flat in my irons. Stay 2-degrees flat in my wedges (Generally that is)?
My Irons (5-9) and my 46° and 50° are 01° Flat.
My 54° and 58° are 02° Flat
So yes, Match with the Irons or even Flatter with Sand and Lob (might be a challenge going "Flatter", since you are already 02° Flat) 😉
If only Ian could fast forward a few months when he’s fitting for the M grind and it serves him best

K stands for Kite as in Tom Kite... At least that is what I've heard

Why the repost?
for a SW-56, which grind would be best for beginners? I tried a few websites and they suggested either an S grind (10 bounce) or D grind (12 bounce), but I have no clue which one is best for a beginner, any suggestions?
Wedge Selections have little to do with "Beginner" or "Expert".
The Choices are geared towards the Turf/Sand Conditions played upon AND the manner in which the Player Swings the Wedge.
Best plan is to take some "Short Game" Lessons from a qualified Professional Instructor and then arrange for a "Fitting".
A GOOD Instructor could do both for you.

How can you pick a wedge grind or fit someone into a wedge grind when 95% of recreational golfers don't know what their next wedge lie is going to look like? So you pick a wedge grind based on your home course's usual conditions, but what if you play elsewhere or the weather changes those conditions and now your grind doesn't fit the course you're on? Tour pros have the luxury to change wedges weekly, heck even daily, if the course they're playing calls for something different than what they typically carry. I like a Vokey and even the Callaway wedges a lot, but I stick with the dual bounce soles that I first used with SCOR, then Cleveland RTX wedges, and now Edison. Really interested in the Edison 2.0 but was waiting on your review of them. I found out about the originals from your first video review, are you getting the 2.0 in?
You either suck it up and figure out how to play your wedges from multiple conditions (recommended anyway) or you be rich and just buy multiple wedges🤷♂️
You dont have to buy the same grind for all 3 of your wedges. You can mix it up and play each to their condition
I Carry a 46° and 50° - both F Grind of Course. A 54°-10° S Grind and a 58°-04° T Grind now.
Prior to - I had a 54°-10° V Grind (no longer available) and a 58°-06° (Low Bounce) K Grind.
The point is I have choices to use depending upon the Lie and the Shot I believe is best to play under the given circumstances of the Situation.
Bounce and Grind Don't "Have To Match" through your Wedge Lofts.
What about T and V grind
OLDER Video - T and V were only Special Order through Vokey WedgeWorks then and V wasn't even available then.
I have a 54° V (2017) that I couldn't replace, so went to a 54° S SM9

Where is the T-grind?
T Grind was a late release added to the SM9 lineup.
Prior to, T Grind was a Special Offering through Vokey WedgeWorks.
T Grind then outsold L Grind in the Shops, which is why you can find SM10 T, but no SM10 L Grind.
There is a video of Ian doing an outdoor "head to head" comparison between T Grind and the V Grind.
(V Grind was a discontinued Grind that had a very limited Special Release offered only in 58° and 60° through Vokey WedgeWorks. They Sold Out in 48 Hours!)

Nice but what about the regular played who screws up a few shots,,,,no one has the room in the bag or the time to figure which wedge to carry,,,,normal Guys don’t have all those wedges to choose from in their garage
Let your typical course conditions be the deciding factor. K grind obviously fits both amateurs and pro's, but if your bunkers have soft sand and lots of it, or if you play in the dew in the mornings or in general have soft fairways, K is the step up and hit type of club. It's incredibly simple from the bunker. It's like a chipper from the bunker really.
