It’s really refreshing to see the base/lower trims of cars reviewed over the top of the line ones they give you. It was a fun drive. Thank you for reviewing this 😁 hope to see more base/lower trim reviews in the everyday cars 👀🤞
for real.
I have a 2024 Tiguan. S just bought it recently. It drives so smooth, so quiet accelerates. So nice breaks, exceedingly well, very happy with it.
As soon as you started talking about the volume knob, I immediately said "That stupid icon!" 🤣
The base model Tiguan in the UK which is the Tiguan Life and the standard engine is a 1.5 TSI inline 4 with 130hp and a 6-speed manual. A TSI 150 is also option with manual or DSG and also a 2.0 TDI 150 with a manual or automatic also. The standard European Tiguan also has a shorter wheelbase than this US version, which is called the Tiguan Allspace in the UK.
Interesting!, also, in the americas the tiguan is also called allspace (i.e there is no "normal" tiguan) however the allspace name was mostly dropped from marketing (website, brocheours, etc) with the launch of the Atlas. However, vehicle registration and etc still calls it tiguan allspace , alongside its launch commercials in the US which focused on its boot capacity
the 1.5Tsi 130hp is the last gen Tsi with many issues. The 1.5Tsi 150hp is the new generation 1.5Tsi EVO. Its a nno brainer to choose the evo
I own a 2023 tiguan S with the third row and it helps with grade school kids trust me. For just taking kids to and from school the Tiguan is great
If my baby's stroller can still fit in the back with the 3rd row up, I'll be sold on this vehicle
11:50 that feels as though it should be part of a 'volkswagen: das auto' meme compilation.
8:23 I feel the exact same way about the volume knob on my 2012 Tiguan, glad to know I’m not the only one and it’s still a thing on the newest model
I wonder if they sell those little magnifying lenses like they made for original Gameboys back in the day, so you can actually see that infotainment screen.
The first model year 2018’s had laaaaazy throttle tuning. To the point that there was a TSB/silent recall to update the throttle mapping. So in classic VW fashion they went to the opposite extreme and Atlas’s and Tiguan’s have had touchy throttles ever since.
Many manufacturers do this. They want it to feel sprightly on initial tip in. It’s awful, especially in NA cars with no power beyond the initial tip in.
Interesting! It all makes sense now.
For that price I´ll buy it, no matter its specifications, the deal is that it will have a well performance even on the highway.
Im from Turkey and most of our cars are Euro spec. Whenever I visit, I sometimes borrow my friends Tiguan thats pretty much like the car in review (base, no sunroof, fwd) except its actually shorter (which we don't get in the US) and it is a 1.4t. Also acceleration from the lights in general are a little slower than in the US. So whenever I get off of lights, it does not skid tires. However, there have been times when I'm taking a slight incline and attempt to pass someone when I accelerate from 30 kmh, the wheels spin, even wheel hopped one time. fwiw, I had a mk6 gti (stage 1) and mk7 (stage 2), and the wheelhop on the tiguan isn't far off.
We have an SE panoramic full roof sun roof. We have the AWD but it only kicks in when you turn it on. The front screen, and all those buttons are electronic which is nice and instead of the silver on the two front doors and passenger seat is replaced with a carbon fiber trim. Once of my favorite features, the heated seats I love cooking myself with them 🤣
I’ve had the same issues with throttle response in my VWs, you almost have to roll forward’s before you touch the throttle, cause from a stop it’s just so sensitive, it doesn’t make sense in a VW Tiguan, you’re supposed to drive it like a grandma, in what scenario will you need overly good throttle response from a VW Tiguan.
I’ve heard people would put it in eco mode to not make it so torquey from a stop.
Very helpful review 👌
Totally agree about the tuning, I just bought this EXACT trim and model, and I get so annoyed with the tire spin when accelerating from a complete stop lol. But I feel like for the price this car is great. Really been enjoying it and I love VW!
My sister has the unicorn Tiguan SE 4motion w/3rd row, I think they did away with the 4 motion 3rd row after 2020 or 21, but its perfect for her family of 5 they have 2 younger teens and a 3rd grader so he fits just fine back there and all of their stuff. I have a Taos fwd and I agree it is silly for the wheel spin and aggressive throttle, but its immaturity drew me in. You get used to it and learn you don't need that much pressure to move along well in them, these cars move out well around 2k rpm is the trick. The only time my car goes to 3k rpm is merging on the interstate, you just are not used to these cars and the way it delivers power.
Just got a Tig w/ 4-motion after my 06 3 series finally gave out. The gas pedal even in eco is very touchy. I also had a 17 Jetta and it wasn’t as touchy as this. Maybe it’s something I still need to get used to. Other than that it seems like a solid commuter.
a bunch of girls at my high school either had these, rav4s, or ford escapes parked in the senior lot. whether they were theirs or actually their parents i'll never know, but the fact that there was so much just proves these are optimal* for new drivers to drive around with
also the complaint about the throttle mapping seems to be the same on my (grandpa's) 2022 mercedes gle350. both have 2.0L turbos and both have really sporadic throttle response from a dig.
Dang there goes my hope to buy this if it's a girlie suv..
@@AJ-ds9xqMost women drive medium SUVs. Don't get discouraged. Just buy what you like.
Just bought this car in Gray today and I love how large it is from the Mazda Cx-30 I had.I had a problem or thought it was a problem with the Radio NOT shutting off.I felt when I shut my car off and came back later I was able to turn on the radio without the FOB.I felt there has a problem being able to listen to the radio without the Fob or car being on.All the cars I owed once you shut off the car everything goes off.....But VW told me you can listen to the radio without the FOB ,well I am glad I found this out since I felt I would have a battery drain.
I have a 2023 Taos SE 4motion it's a solid ride with great fit and finish with the dual clutch transmission. my only complaint is the sound system, it's so bad not sure what happened. Every VW I owned had great sound system until now. So I'm upgrading it next month.
I drove my mom’s Cayenne GTS and it had that same throttle issue. It’s much smoother, don’t get me wrong, but you still feel it. I thought it was just because it’s super powerful!
Finally, they're doing a review on the s. Series, not the high-end model. It's nice to see that
I think the wheel spin can be cured by another set of tires. Michelin Tires are A1. I have a 23' Tiguan R line Black with Pirellis. Pirellis I found out are great too. I mainly buy Michelin though.
Shoulda kept the sunglasses tbh. I think you could rock them. Also 21:40 was a near can opener bridge moment
In Mexico they sell the base model with a 1.4L turbo with 150hp, if you care to know
The differences between this and the 2017 Tiguan my family has are insane
I agree! I used to have a 2017 R-line and boy, when i drove the 2019, I was like why doesn't VW offer the two engines!!!? The one with More HP and DSG Transmission
I drove a 2006 Jeep Liberty 4x4 for a few years and driving on Wet and Snow drives while slightly pressing the accelerator on those conditions it made the car slip
Hahaha , yes yes yes! I actually get bothered by how the icon on the volume knob spins where in my 8th Gen Civic, this is not a problem. I actually never seen other brand with a spinning icon on volume / tuning knob. So cheap IMO, but I still like the Tiguan as an overall product.
Drove an earlier model of Tiguan couple months ago, it was the worst feeling car Ive ever driven - everything felt so cheap, a lot of things rattled in the car, sound insulation was also really bad, wheels spin a ton... 😑i genuinely wonder: who buy these car?
One day 😊
Pretty good features for base model makes me feel really ripped off for getting a 2018 chevy malibu ls at the end of 2018 with no heated seats and non leather steering wheel.
Funny enough i had the 2018 model and it has a very lazy throttle response to the point that i had to get rid of it , 2.0 150 hp TDI , except for some minor issues , it’s a good family car
I don’t use automatic climate control either. I like to set it myself, my car isn’t going to get it right. And then it gives you too many options, lets you set for the driver and passenger, and I never want it to, it bugs my OCD to see the driver side and passenger side temps be different, so I’m changing it back so it’s the same. With 3 knobs it takes 3 seconds and it’s done. 🤷🏻♂️
I am NOT a fan of Toyota RAV4, I am a fan of VW, so this is a great pick. Everyone has its own opinion
What maintenance costs? I have a 2020 Tiguan SEL 4 motion R Line. 67k miles and ZERO maintenance costs other than regular oil changes, tire rotations and a set of tires.
“The Honda civic in front of us did not select s” LMAO
And why is the speedo not where the D for drive is? that seems totally backwards
You can change the layout and have the speedo in the middle of the tach
It’s really not silly at all. For a young family with 4 kids who cannot afford to drop $55k+ on a Tahoe this is going to fit the whole family. It’s a smart play by VW
Is it reliable?
Solid option for the price. Unlike some base models there’s no absurd omission
I have a 22 Tiguan sel with 255/40/r20 wheels, I drove both s and sel and can tell the wider tires bigger rims does better in comfortability and cornering. Not sure why they put the thin 215 tires on base model for a suv 😢
I believe the Honda accord stared the trend of with the 2.0 l turbo 👍
The knob bothers THE CRAP out of my OCD
the third row is standard on FWD models only
0:50, someone watches Top Gear to remember that refrerence by Clarkson lolol
Interesting with that throttle issue. My 24 atlas does not have that.
I have a ‘22 and the throttle irregularity was only noticeable during the first few hundred miles. Hasn’t been an issue since.
I heard the Tiguan while good for driving, the rear passengers can feel bumpy.
You should compare the ace of base Tiguan to the Taos... although the Taos for some reason has horrible reliability.
Nice car but kinda looks past gen..?
I have a 2018 Base model and my non powered trunk literally won’t open anymore hard to believe it was certified pre owned💀💀💀💀
If it was CPO you probably still have a warranty, get them to fix it
I got a 2018 base model and just a few weeks ago sometimes when I shifted into drive the dash would say "transmission is in emergency mode. You can continue driving" with a warning icon displayed. I took it to the dealer and got it repaired under warranty thank God!
The volume knob bothers me too
TIL that the Tiguan has a 3rd row...i literally had no idea lol. i guess the Taos is taking the spot for smaller 2 row crossover
Have the same car. 2023, S. Drive it almost a year.
Bad:
- Third raw is a joke. You can't use it for kids. There are no isofix, there are no space for the hook.
- The transmission operates with jolts. They are quite noticeable at speeds up to 20 mph.
Good:
- Gas mileage. City ~30. Highway 33-39.
- It rides very smoothly, feels like a luxury segment.
- The acceleration is excellent.
- Comfortable seats. Large trunk.
Hi. Is it reliable?
@patriotamas3216 WV sold tiguans more than other cars, as I know. So I think yes.
Who started the 2.0T trend? Rally. Rally did. A long time ago
The electronic steering is great until it goes out before $70K. Same for the turbo.
In germany we can’t get that small entertainment system, kinda odd to see this
Made in mexico 😂
Those are called options
I like these vehicles... they very good on gas for Uber and Grubhub driving... LOL
With discounts and rebates, I bet you can get it for under 25
The problem is you still own a VW 😂
Where? I don’t see them getting discounted that much where I live.
@@Userxxx840 When you show up to buy one
I’ve had a ‘22 SE FWD for 24k miles now. I’ve have never had a situation where the front wheels spin out… not in rain, not on dry roads etc. Not sure if these test drivers are just exaggerating something just for content.
Always get the R-Line
why?
It is only 30k. But you know you’re going to have to get a lot of things fixed after 3 years. Worth it?
There's a warranty within that time. These are fine until you get to 100k.
$30k seems like too much for this thing. I could get a brand new Volvo for that price, and those at least look nice.
@@genosreviews252 ex 30 is the cheapest Volvo at 35k and it's electric. CX 40 at 41.5k is the cheapest gas powered Volvo.
@@basslover352 oh ok as long as warranty covers would cover all big stuff and the little stupid stuff that will fail like switches etc. than yeah may be worth it then.
@@basslover352I would personally spend the extra 3.5k. The vw Tiguan se starts at 31.5k. An electric Volvo has way less that could go wrong on it. Maintenance costs are also going to be way lower.
If you're not heavy on the pedal, the car won't peel out.
This is gonna sound so dumb but my dream daily driver car is a 2024 jetta SEL lmao. I grew to really like the unique blandness of the car. The gli is cool, but not a fan of the red accents
The new Jetta is great! We tested one last year (base with a 6MT) and it got over 50MPG on the highway
it's pre 2024, the new 2024 looks different
One thing about the Tiguan's third row is that if you get AWD it's removed
6:43 the European Union
How? makes no sense
@@user-fo9xe9wl2e maybe some regulation or so...
I think 2L turbos are most effective for tax reasons there.@@user-fo9xe9wl2e
Aren't these made in Mexico?
Cars are so Lego nowadays, if they cared about the consumer, they’d just have you check boxes for any and anything regardless of trim
The best cars have already been built. Hoard all of the old reliable cars. We are never going back to the peak of automobiles.
Why would you get a 2WD SUV????
I wouldn’t complain, that car would cost 50k in the uk
to be fair, even Audi models cheap out on interiors, anything below stomach is hard plastic
I dont see why people buy this over its japanese competitors like rav 4, or even a used car. This thing is straight from a 2015 economy car.
Wow. The driving smoothness is worse than a 2012 Corolla.
Adults rarely sit in the 3rd row.
Too bad Consumer Reports rated Volkswagen 27 out of 30 for reliability.
This should be no more than $25k
Can you get ANY new car for less $25k in today's car market? Much less a stylish Tiguan with all the features and third row seat?? Me thinks you knoweth not what you are talking about.
@@mjackson74 Maybe try speaking like a normal human first. Then maybe people won;t think you are a sperg ;)
Yes, I can get a new car for under $25k, not with a third row though. This things third row is basically unusable, I don't know who could even fit in it.@@mjackson74
This company should go out of business for what they’ve done with their newer interiors. Buttons on the steering wheel or not, the new HVAC-in-the-screen thing is horrible.
This one has manual climate controls, they're not in the screen.
Commute to nowhere 😂
Some really bad driving from the Lincoln and Honda in this video 😂
$30k seems kinda expensive for this thing lol
For a small 3 row suv? No lol
The third row is basically unusable, nobody can fit in it. @@bradyb9929
That 3rd row is just a joke 😂 a child cant even fit in it
compared to thrid world country vws, this is pretty complete, and cheap, sadly
Paying 40k for a VW it's wild .
And why the 3rd row over there tho ..for the dogs?...eating space for no reason.
Let me see EU version if it's boring like this one....and nope it's totally different the interior even the exterior . VW really said...nah we not going to be fancy for yall in North america.
The Koreans really took over VW and Nissan spot in North America
And it's expensive in EU this VW model...base model 38k gas option, the diesel option is 45k....like who in their right mind paying for a VW all that money
well that interior look rly bad
Not a fan! Get a Toyota RAV4 and save on maintenance costs
Also Not The Biggest Fan. Screw the RAV4 if you want to value your money. Also Not the 2.5 always stay away from
And spend twice as much? Not everyone keeps their vehicles for 20 years.
The new RAV4 is garbage. Easily the worst driving compact suv on the market.
I’d rather walk than choose the rav4. These modern VWs have been surprisingly solid. I’d choose this or the Forester.
@@JakeDrives1I personally would take this, just never liked Subaru altogether.
feels very cheap compared to the mazda cx5... german cost reduction
WRONG MODEL BUT I FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKING WISH THE ATLAS (ESPECIALLY THE FIRST FACELIFT FROM 2021) DIDN'T LOOK SO SIMILAR TO THE 2ND GEN AMAROK WHICH I ALSO HATE BUT WITHOUT A BED AND 6-LUG WHEELS!!!!!!!!!!!😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬😫😫😫😫😫😫🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬THAT 2021 FACELIFT IS THE MOST OBVIOUS BY FAR
I GUESS THAT'S WHY AN EVEREST-BASED 2ND GEN AMAROK DOESN'T EXIST IT WOULD RESEMBLE THAT
AND I ACCIDENTALLY THOUGHT A 2015-2017 ATLAS EXISTED AND 2020 WOULD BE THE FACELIFT
As usual, VWs look so boring.
So this how garbage looks like. I will never buy VW, KIA or Hyundai.
The problem is, those 2.0 TSI motors are horribly unreliable.
