I learned how to play the flute listening to your records. I could play all of your songs right along with you. You never knew it but you were a great teacher ♥️
Well, he did write the song Teacher.
@@stefanschleps8758- HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!! I see what you did there!
Just a note to Ian: One of your most ardent fans, Dan "Grizzle" Willis just passed away at age 63. He met you back stage some time in the early 1990s. Being 6'3", he was surprised that you were not ( as tall!). Never the less, he was the JT ambassador of upstate NY! Oh.. I also becamer a flautist and learned many of your compositions. Bless you Ian!
Seeing the mighty Tull in 1972 forever changed my life as for my appreciation of music!! Not too many band could compare to them in those days! My brother went on to see them at least 10 times or more!! Every experience a classic and phenomenal performance!! God bless you Ian!! Thanks
Just listened to Broadsword yesterday.....one of the best albums...ever...
Happy birthday Mr. Anderson. Tull fans everywhere wish you many more. God bless you sir.
It's hard to express how much I've enjoyed your music over the years. The first time I heard Jethro Tull was in about 1969 and immediately knew your music was above and beyond anything I had heard before. I once went to see you perform at Fillmore West in around 1969 but you were ill and Janis Joplin filled in. Great concert but I never got another chance to see you live.
BTW I'm 70 years old and I've never bought any albums that weren't Jethro Tull.
Seriously? You own no other music?
Thanks for all your hard work Ian! The Tull archives are awe-inducing. On with "Under Wraps"!
This is going to be magical, and you're looking much more handsome these days. I hope you know how happy you've made us for 50 years. You are literally saving my life these very nights as I battle crippling anxiety and panic disorders with a side dose of depression. So I lay in my pillow trying to focus on anything & it's always you, especially Songs From The Wood, Skating Away, Wondering Aloud, Life's a Long Song, so many others. I close my eyes and remember all the shows at Madison Square Garden; you've been an important part of my life, and I thank you. Bless. ♥️🇺🇲☘️
Ian had the gravity of a survivor when he was maybe 25 years old . A philosopher . A poet . A deep guy who could still laugh .
Wonderful … I hope more of such sets could come to market. Huge fan!! Let’s see, maybe 13 concerts from
1977 to today.
This is a very soothing video.
For some strange reason, I still have all my ticket stubs from the '70s.
Thank you for the flashbacks.
It was the best wasn't it? Me and Mr. Natural ensured we would have a great time. All we had to do was show up, and Jethro Tull did the rest.
'74-'77 Peace
You’re not the only one to keep the ticket stubs 🎫!!
Ian is just as important to rock n roll as Jagger , Jim Morrison , and Pink Floyd . Im so glad he is still around . The LIVING IN THE PAST 2 LP set , from years ago , is a great introduction to the band .
I have a never worn concert t-shirt with the Broadsword album logo (just like the vinyl edition cover), signed by you backstage and wonderfully framed. The person who did this for me did an amazing job. Also, behind the glass are the 2 backstage passes. 11/14/2004. Sorry about you having to go back to a certain casino 😉 this year but thank you for your generosity that day. Meant a lot.
One of my favorite Tull albums! I still wear my concert shirt! Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree is a brilliant choice!
Have to admit: his Tull work is great. Wilson’s own depressing stuff is mediocre at best😝
That's awesome, Ian! This is my favorite album ever. A big hug from Italy❤
Flautist of 44 years, you’ve been my biggest musical influence ❤ I shed thousands of tears learning by ear, Locomotive Breath, of which my band was never interested in playing as its “complex” #respect
I've been a Jethro Tull fan since Stand Up. My first Tull concert was Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, Ohio in 1970. The third song was My God, which hadn't been released yet. When the band kicked in the power went out. For the next 20 minutes you told stories and jokes to us in the dark until the crew was able to run another cable to the generator outside the auditorium. Memorable show. The first concert I took my daughter to was Jethro Tull at Constitution Hall in Washington, DC about 15 years ago.
I've got all of the anniversary box sets and have Broadsword on pre-order; can't wait. I appreciate that you've issued them in a uniform format--looks great on the shelf.
Broadsword - I just want to say thank you!!!
There weren't many songs when I was young that captivated me so much and conjured up images of Northmen, winds, waves, dark clouds, an approaching armada and fleeing women and children in my head. With this song my imagination flew to far away lands. That's why I love this song to this day: I'll soon be 60 and I still have these dreams...
One of the best 82´s albums ever! Great sound, wonderful artwork and brilliant lyrics. The original vinyl pressing sounds crystal clear and has the right punch. No loudness war! Not compressed!
The Legendary Flutist. 💪
Flautist actually
@@leighsaldivar4439 Both spellings are correct. Being one myself, I personally prefer flutist.
Always a pleasure, Mr. Anderson. Can't wait to Sept 1st. Happy Birthday, by the way 🎉🎂
That album and its unreleased tracks represent a phenomenal burst of musical creativity! Great work.
My first time seeing Jethro Tull live was September 1982 in Pittsburgh when the band was touring this album. Saga was the opener. It was a great show. The first of many Tull shows for this fan.
The fact that two of my favourite Tull songs, 'Overhang' and 'Too Many Too' did not even make it on to the main album just shows the incredible musical quality and creative energy of this era.
This is what blows my mi mind, not only in this LP but also in ALL Jethro's album: the songs that didn't make it on finding room in any of the both sides of the vinyl were AS GOOD as the ones that appeared in the official release.
It took my a while to appreciate it, but after owning the original _20th Anniversary Box Set_ for a year or so I found that _Overhang_ was one of my favorite songs!
@@HailAnts it goes that way for me, some of my favorites from many bands are stuff I only heard after buying the album. It's often some song that got little or no air play.
Thank You, Ian (and the rest of the Lads, especially, during this creative "Burst" period, Martin and P-J Vettese, the latter with whom you created the magnificent "Walk Into Light", another fantastic Record...). You certainly are one of the 20th Century's Most Incredible MUSIC Creative Force, and, as I approach the End of my life, I am QUITE HAPPY that I hadYOU and YOUR VARIOUS BANDS, since 1970, to go through Life along the many years.
On the Other Side, IF I am fortunate enough to bump into you at that Great Big Pub in the Sky, you'll pardon me for tapping you on the shoulder, behind you at The Bar and say to the Barmaid (beautiful, 21, of course) "Hey! BarMaid! Pass Us Another Bottle, Will Ya?
Happy Birthday, Mr. Anderson!
I discovered Jethro Tull in 1986. I had heard and liked JT many times before 86' (on radio) but really listened too and fell in love with JT in 86' at about 20 years old. unfortunately I saw only 1 JT concert (one of, if not the best concerts I'd ever seen (and I had seen a lot of concerts before that), it was the Rock Island tour. (look it up if you haven't seen it, the stage show was magic, really!) Shortly after I became severely crippled/disfigured and since then, well ill just say music helps... thank you
I'm really looking forward to this! Please don't wait for the 40th anniversary of "Crest of a Knave" - that is too far away.
You said it!
thanks ian. you're responsible for one of my fav albums of all time and one of the greatest live albums of all time, Bursting Out. Barriemore was a beast!!!!!!!!!!!!
He still is, fortunately :)
was a beast on Bursting Out. :-)@@porpletrommler8172
Happy Birthday, Ian!! Thanks for everything! Can't wait to get my copy and enjoy it!
This is amazing! And thank you for respecting us long-time fans by NOT overcharging! The Beatles and The Who box sets are a real slap in the face to the devoted fans! You spoil us!! Thank you!!
It's very good rock record. Among Jethro Tull's top 3.
Hello ! from land o' lakes,wi...big fan here,,,..hope to get a copy of this,,,..proud owner of a T-shirt from S.F.T.W. concert 😮.....love everything you all do,,,,...tnx, pat&family.
Hey Ian Thanks so much for your Wonderful Music , i,ve always enjoyed the music of Jethro Tull 👍👍Rock on 🎼🎵🎶🎹 Peace✌✌✌
Tull was the soundtrack to much of my life. So happy Tull exists. Your gatefold albums were really cool. I have lp's and CD's of most of the Tull catalog . also imo, Martin Barre = insanely under rated guitar player. Thanks for everything Ian & company.
Thank you Ian. Can’t wait for the vinyl!!!
A great album which I only have on cassette. And as I have most of the Tull productions on vinyl or CD, and I like this album so much, … you might know what follows! 👍🏻
I look forward to picking up our copy in September. Thanks to Ian Anderson and Tull for putting out this extended version of "The Broadsword And The Beast" album.😊
Broadsword and he Beast: the very first time I ever heard Jethro Music.
I'm from Brazil. I love JTull
I was privileged to live in Scotland from 1980 to 1982. It was the most beautiful place I have ever seen.
Very much my cup of tea. Jethro Tull is in the very special group of bests of all time by far.
Ian you are the best rocker ever !! And you have proven that your not "Too old to R&R !
..This album is for me the best of my Jethro Tull collection, a timeless masterpiece!..chapeau!
belated Happy Birthday Ian , I missed wishing you on the 10th of August
I have the original vinyl, I bought it in 1982, and also I was in your concert in Madrid at that time (82-83 i do not remember).
I remember buying that album 40+ years ago in northern Germany. Had to buy three copies of it because I dropped one and broke it, I gave another away, I I just had to have one for myself.
Happy birthday, Ian.
The box sets look amazing!
Ian, if you're reading this, you have the absolute sweetest voice on "Cheap Day Return"...it is a special song to me and my family, thank you.
Thanks for sharing with us Ian. I can almost remember the 70's and the excitement I felt seeing your band in concert. 1974-1977 every time you came to Maryland. It was like my tribe had arrived, and you were the chieftain. Hope and trust your life today gives you time to process the long journey. Written your autobiography yet? You should, I did. Thank you for years of fun, strength, inspiration, and support. ⛩
Wishing you peace, prosperity, and harmony.
Come to Vienna. (We'd love to see you again.)
This is fabulous! I’m looking forward to this! ❤
I had the pleasure of seeing you & your great band 3 times in Toronto Ontario over the years. Fantastic shows every time. It would be a great pleasure to see you again in Canada!!! Cheers & best wishes to a great musical presence in my life since before I was a teenager! 😍
What a pleasure for you to describe and promote Broadsword. An older friend gave me Benefit and I loved To Cry You A Song & Teacher! First concert in 1975 War Child & Minstrel tour in CT. USA was one of the best shows I've seen only topped by The Who same year (sorry). I've purchase most of the excellent box reissues and look forward to the Vinyl edition along with the Disc pack. Thank you for your life long creation of music that has brought so much joy to my families lives, you're the best, Rich.
Happy Birthday Ian!
My favorite album by far is Minstrel in the Gallery
Never have I acquired a more Deluxe Anniversary Edition than this 'Monster Edition' of Jethro Tull's Broadsword and the Beast album.
Unboxing, reading all the info while listening to this beast was a real feast.
Please, please, please, add some Canadian shows to your tour!
Dear Ian, I am a big fan of your early albums as The Benefit and of course Aqualung and thanks to my dad which showed your music 🙏 always on my mind your live gig The God you did on the festival Isle of White I think 👍 and some yrs ago I was on your show in my country (Slovakia) and it was brilliant. All the best Mr. Anderson 🙏
Of course My God not only The God 😁
Thank you sir. Delving into your last two releases and enjoying every track. That Steve Wilson must be a busy guy!
I have been looking forward to this since Dave Pegg told me about it at a Fairport gig earlier this year. It was my first Tull gig when I was in high school and was such a special evening of music so has special memories for me.
I can see this going to be one of the best releases of it's kind. I have this on order!! Can't wait!
@@candelise me too 👍
So looking forward to these releases and they are more special since you unboxed them for us! BTW, love your fireplace and mantle!
Looks great! HBD Ian. 💚
My first Jethro Tull gig, Nostell Priory, Theakstons Beer festival, fantastic day out, seen you many times since.
One of my favourite Jethro Tull albums, I was lucky enough to see the Broadsword And The Beast tour at Wembley Arena.
Happy Birthday, Ian!🍷🍷
The Broadsword and the beast was my first Jethro Tull record I got in 1985. I only discovered today that you have a concert near me unfortunatly I have a medical procedure and cant make it.
Ian, I have loved your music for decades. I saw you LIVE at the RichesteryWar Memorial theater in 1982 on this tour, with my then in her late 59’s mother, who as a classically trained French horn player was thriyby your music. My favorite part was when set 2 started with band pulling instruments out of the dustbin by the park bench
Loved that album. B-sides are strong as well
Awesome box set!! Thank you! Kindly reissue the previous box sets. The interest has skyrocketed as have the prices. Please Maestro Anderson, your loyal fans are here to cry you a song!
What a great album ! Memories of seeing Tull for the first time on that tour at Edinburgh Playhouse are still vivid . Afterwards I managed to convince the guy taking out the large advertising poster from the glass cabinet to give me it . Had it signed by both Ian and Martin at the backstage door ….later that same evening.
Anyone who was around back then and a Tull fan will remember that _Broadsword_ was a crucial album.
After releasing the album _A_ in 1980 to very mixed fan reaction, it seemed like _Jethro Tull_ as a group had ended with the seventies. Wasn't a big fan of the new 'electronic' sound.
Fortunately, a year later, they were back in great form with _Broadsword and the Beast!_ It was the first Tull concert I went to!
Can't wait to get this. I wish they would rerelease, the Warchild and Minstrel In The Gallery anniversary editions. If you try to buy them online the price can be up to $400 used.
According to this old audiophile:
Jethro Tull is the greatest rock & roll band of all time.
Many contenders, only one winner!
My favorite Jethro Tull album, can't wait!
The best news I’ve heard all day!
I love your music. Cheers from Portugal 🙂
This is definitely on my list!! I bought the 50th Anniversary This Was Box Set a couple of years ago which is fantastic!! I have told many people over the years that the best concert I’ve ever seen was Jethro Tull in 1982 in Hampton Virginia.
Can’t wait for Under Wraps ❤️🤘
Got it on order.... can't wait! Was always one of my fave albums and saw you at Nostell Priory on that tour - harrrumph years ago!. Looking forward to seeing you in Salford next May.
Wishing you a very happy birthday & many more!
Had the privilege of seeing the band several times. Always incredible. The memory of seeing Thick as a Brick live when it first came out hopefully will always be there. It was epic!. ❤
I have 2014 warner compilation....CD version. Love it!
What ifs, maybes, and might have been's,

Столько новой информации об альбоме 40-летней давности, что Иэн сам удивляется) Издание ,конечно, отличное, как и сам альбом прекрасен.
Epic as always (kinda goes with the artist)!
Great album Sir!! I wanna this box!!
Love your music
Marvelous stuff, it seems like yesterday this album first came out, oh for those times again✌️👍😊💜
It would be cool if Ian's fireplace surround was done in the style of Broadsword and the Beast album cover (the initial version)✌️👍😊💜😄😄
Great timing to announce on your birthday, HBD!
Fantastic! I hope to see you blokes in Albany- Cheers, Brent
FROM SPAIN, FOREVER JETHRO TULL...
Well, looking forward to giving it a listen! I've never regretted any Jethro Tull purchase and can't imagine it happening this time, it would be sort of ridiculous!🐉🍗
Ian - Always awesome to hear your thoughts on things. You look well, which is a plus. I have the CD version on Pre-order. This album is my favorite Jethro Tull album, but I have most of the studio albums and a few of your solo albums, live albums and on DVD, and compilation albums. Please stay healthy and safe. Pass a hello to your family for me. Peace.
