Thanks, very helpful. Just want to add in case you dont see the selfie cam hen you start new movie recording. You need to go to mac -> System Preferences -> Privacy Settings - > Screen Recording -> Click on lock icon and provide credentials -> add the Quick time player to the list and you reconnect your iphone to mac and you should be ready.

This can also be used to stream netflix offline downloaded movies to you mac, jsut make sure to select the phone as the microphone. This was atremendous help and the only way ive found to do this without a hotspot and being offline like in a plane! Thank you!

Daniel, this was VERY helpful, in fact exactly what I was looking for. I just purchased a new iPad and one of the big things I want to do with it is to display it to my iMac screen so that I can share it via Zoom when I am teaching online and holding office hours for my students. I can quickly write in the Notes app with my Apple pencil and my students will be able to see it, just like if we were meeting in person. Thank you!!!

I think the key thing to tell viewers is what type of cable you are using to connect your iPhone to Mac book.
The only one that is compatible for both which is the lightning cable
Get a cable that works from your phone to your computer.
Definitely like Patrick said. Use the cable that comes with your phone. The one I have is a lightning to USB C that came with my 12 Pro Max! Just take the plug portion off

I tried following your instructions to mirror my iPhoneX to my 2015 MacBook Pro [MacOS Monterey] using Quick Time but it doesn't work. The drop down in the movie recording does not list my iPhone (even though it's connected via the cable with charging on).
Would appreciate it if someone knowledgeable could reply with a solution to mirroring my phone to my laptop. I'm not even sure what the screen mirroring (double-rectangled) icon in the iPhone is for, if it won't even list my MacBook when turned on!!

Thanks Daniel, but need some help. I am new to Apple with an Iphone 12 (using 4 months and all system updates) and MacBook Pro (Big Sur updated). I am connected via an Apple USB-C to Lightning connector and the phone is not showing up in the Cameras or Microphone options once I have quicktime open (camera defaults to the laptop as you mentioned). Is there some kind of permissions I need to look at?

so when I am doing this, instead of showing me the iPhone screen it is using my iPhone's camera. can you please tell me what am I doing wrong? I might just add that my iphone screen has gone black and it is completely unresponsive

Is there a setting that has to be changed for the image on the Mac to rotate with the phone as it is rotated to landscape while filming a video? I’ve been using this method for awhile, but when I rotate my phone to landscape and put it into a tripod the image on the Mac is always portrait.

@@AmirParkar Haven’t found a solution that seems to work more times then not. I use QuickTime as the view finder when setting up the phone on a tripod to record with the back camera and I’ve had this issue where QuickTime on my Mac is always portrait regardless of the phone orientation with multiple versions of iPhones.
This does not work with streaming apps like Netflix, or HBO. tried downloading a movie for example via the app to play in the car while camping and the audio will show, however the screen won’t show the video.

Yeah it's wonderful. It looks OK, can have it on the side and record clips I like on a computer with plenty of space for screen & audio. 🤩
This is the only thing that has worked for me so far. All the other tutorials involve menu items that I do not see. I had to choose my phone under "Screen" in QuickTime instead of the "Camera" option. The only issue is, the sound doesn't work. The iPhone's speakers are selected but no sound comes out. Wonder if anyone has a fix for this.
It works to me but the camera cannot turn to landscape.. it is always portrait🤦🏻♀️ any idea how to put it on landscape mode while doing this mirroring??

IF YOU CAN'T MAKE THE CAMERA LANDSCAPE
1. Open iMessage on your iPhone
2. Open any chat and click the camera button. Now you can make it landscape

I've seen this trick on TT and I was worried I need to buy an adaptor because I have an old Macbook and the charging cord from my iPhone 12 isn't matching to any slots but guess what, your old iPhone cord it comes in handy if you fave a newer iPhone. There is a volume control beside where you have selected your iphone in quicktime app.By default it will be on mute.Please unmute that.In addition please select your iphone in microphone section.
